Even the Brits could have downed this in the 1970's if they had wanted to. The BAC Lightning by mid 70's could be above 60,000 feet in under four minutes from take-off

The English Electric Lightning actually intercepted The U2 at above 80,000 feet.

They have been tracking it for a week. Who knows whats in it and if it wasn't for people looking up in Billings we would have never heard of it. It'll be swimming with the fishes soon. Shooting it down good/ bad idea.

It goes deeper as I used to work at BOC and we had a sister company over at PRC. One executive directed the shipment of a freeze dryer to China. It was listed by USA as a potential Bio weapon and that technology wasn't supposed to be sent to China.

So the liquid can be freeze dried into a power, put into your ping pong balls and released for more coverage rather than a liquid.

I tried to write the backstory several years ago but got slapped for it.

It could also be argued that since these balloons have been used several times around the world recently, including just off of Hawaii, from what I understand we shot that one down and collected it.

We've probably already collected all the intelligence there is to get.

Lots of Chefs use freeze driers. They are pretty well universally available and probably quite a few are made in China?

Driving underneath it now. At least 4 fighters traveling at combat speed circling the balloon.

Air to air and surface to air missiles don’t home in on communications signals. The Missile guys have been answering, but people don’t like the answer. It’s going to be a difficult target for any missile.

We'll see if the national security geniuses that brought us such outstanding victory in Afghanistan can actually manage some national security out of this because so far letting a CCP spy ballon of undetermined intent float freely across the continental United States for a week seems kind of nationally un-secure.
