When the US annexed Texas and Hawaii there was no referendum.

Well "yeehaw" buddy but im not from the USA or for that matter living in the 1800s.

Those ""referendums"" held in occupied Ukrainian territory were nothing more than a sham, and excuse so Putin could further his agenda.

Because his invasion fell on its arse and did not go in any sort of way to plan.

And anyone who believes otherwise, should probably ponder exactly how you carry our fair and legal referendums, in areas you only half occupy.

Given the district fact that its an impossibility to do so in what amounts to active warzones.

Just the sheer logistics of such a thing boggle the mind.

Aloha.

Hawaii—a U.S. territory since 1898—became the 50th state in August, 1959, following a referendum in Hawaii in which more than 93% of the voters approved the proposition that the territory should be admitted as a state. There were many Hawaiian petitions for statehood during the first half of the 20th century.

July 4, 1845 - Texas Annexation convention votes to accept the United States offer, 55-1. October 13, 1845 - Texas voters approve annexation, 7664-430. December 16, 1845 - U.S. House votes to admit Texas, 141-58 (21 abstaining).

Any other myths you need correction on

The referendum was a half arsed justification for annexation. Russians soldiers don't risk their lives fighting for another country. They have more morale fighting for Russian land. Hence the rationale for annexation.

On that score we seem to agree.

Russians soldiers don't risk their lives fighting for another country.

I imagine a lot of them do what they are told or suffer the consequences to be honest.

They have more morale fighting for Russian land. Hence the rationale for annexation.

Hence the reason for Putin's illegal untenable unimplementable referendums and the annexation of the territories.

That way he can attempt to claim they are fighting for Russian land but he canny polish that turd very well.

Because i don't imagine the troops are that stupid.

The majority of such not wishing to be there and longing only to go back home to their families and loved ones whilst remaining in the one piece.

i think the tactical nuke is 55% reasonable

Just for clarity; you think its reasonable if Russia lets off a tactical nuke or you think its most likely that Russia is going to let off a tactical nuke?

There is no such thing as a "tactical nuke". Use of any form of nuclear weapon would be crossing the proverbial "Rubicon". I would maintain that if Putin detonates a nuke of any size, he will be quickly removed. I cannot see Nato accepting a nuclear power using nukes against a non-nuclear power. There would be no bunker deep enough to shield Putin and his lackeys.

And no, I am not suggesting nukes would fly from NATO. Putin may well die by the hands of his countrymen.

The Kremlin have pulled the plug on him.

He's not meeting Russian propaganda standards.

Not a very high standard to have to meet.

Some good stuff here on updates.

Russia turning Kherson into booby trapped "City of Death".

Crossing the river will be very difficult for Ukraine, if it's even possible.

I sincerely hope not.

Using any sort of nuke will completely alienate him on the world stage.
There can be no justification for it, at all.

I just hope that if he is really considering it then wiser heads in The Kremlin will see sense and take the necessary action.

He should conduct a secret mass air strike ala the Battle of Britain on Kyiv and only hit official government and military positions. Then get out with anti aircraft equipment already set up and in position for if Zelenskyy snaps and responds.

News for you, the Germans lost the Battle of Britain?

Seriously?

Also, the German air strikes on us were not very "secret", what with radar and stuff. Which is a bit more advanced now, as are air defences. Which is why Russia has not achieved air superiority.

Welcome to ATS, by the way
