Russian state media is talking about the need to quickly set up "territorial defense forces"

Their scripts are pretty much taken from the Second World War. This is reminiscent of the militia divisions of workers that the USSR raised in late 1941 out of desperation. Their combat value wasn't great, but they bought Stalin time until he could assemble better forces for the counter-attack in December 1941.

Cheers

Is there anything left of Pokrovsk?

They'll just keep steamrolling westwards and I doubt keeping things intact is a priority here. If anything it's easier to completely wipe out the previous civilisation if you are going to invent a new one in an ethno religious sense.

I don't think they can do steamrollering.

Grinding away is what they do.

Yeah know what you mean. When the time is right they might steam it depending on Ukraine running out of men. Looks like grinding right now.

Steamrolling?
Including Crimea Russia is in control of approximately 18% of Ukraine.
Hardly 'steamrolling' mate, especially considering Crimea alone accounts for just over 7%.

In terms of land occupied its been round about the same for approximately 16-18 months now.

..... and I doubt keeping things intact is a priority here.

Scorched Earth is very much the Russian Standard Operating Procedure when it comes to invasions.

16 August Update

Ukrainian forces continued to marginally advance southeast of Sudzha on August 16 amid continued Ukrainian operations in Kursk Oblast.

Russian sources claimed on August 16 that Ukrainian HIMARS strikes destroyed bridges in Glushkovo and Zvannoye (both southwest of Korenevo).

Ukrainian forces reportedly advanced further into western Belgorod Oblast during recent cross-border assaults than previously reported, but available open-source reporting and evidence indicates that Ukrainian forces no longer maintain positions within Belgorod Oblast as of August 16.

Russian forces recently advanced near Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, and Pokrovsk.

More at URL above.

Also heard a Russian paramilitary group leader (Georgy Zakrevsky) made a broadcast blaming Putin for the current state of the war, and supposedly, this video enjoys wide sharing among Russian troops. Apparently, the video is genuine, but who knows how much distribution it has had.

Cheers

More bad news for Putin as nearly all Chinese banks are refusing Russian payments to Chinese suppliers due to American sanctions , Russia and China are trying to find a workaround with Reuters reporting the possible revival of Barter trade between the two.

Now, 98% of Chinese banks - even small regional ones - are refusing to accept direct Chinese payment transfers from Russia, Alexey Razumovsky, the commercial director of the payments company Impaya Rus, told the pro-Kremlin media outlet Izvestia.

Razumovsky told Izvestia the payment challenges with Chinese banks could contribute to supply-chain difficulties and inflation in Russia.

Doors between Russia and Chinese banks are closing Since the invasion of Ukraine, Russia and its trade partners have skirted sanctions by using smaller banks and other payment modes or non-US-dollar currencies to circumvent the West's ban of some Russian banks from the widely-used SWIFT messaging system.

Sounds like a plan.

Hopefully, they take them up on the offer.

Turn around and go after Putin and hang him and his ilk from the Kremlim rafters.

Satire?

I mean, Zelensky launched the Kursk incursion because he’s losing in the east.

People aren’t stupid Andy.

Again hands Imhere a very large Russian mirror.

If being invaded by a bunch of pissed-off ex-farmers and having to evacuate part of the oblast does not make Russia feel stupid.

I'm not quite sure what does, put it that way.

Well, Zelensky is obviously losing in the east.

Cavv2 posts about the advancements daily.

Russian forces recently advanced near Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, and Pokrovsk.

So Nazi Bandera LARPers are back at it. Glad you admit it Andy.

We all know how well that turned out.

lol

Has the incursion help Pro Zelensky crowd look away from the eastern frontlines that’s been crumbling lately?

No worries Cavv2 will update us on it today about Chasiv Yar, Toretsk, and Pokrovsk etc.

Unfortunately, Ukraine lost their second HIMARS launcher in the Kursk operation, but that's the second one lost ever, so they still have all the rest left. Contrast that to Russian claims they have destroyed more HIMARS than were ever delivered to Ukraine, lol. Denys Davydov showed an amazing image of just how accurately the HIMARS hit a bridge in Russia where they are cutting the Russians off, the accuracy is amazing. I don't think Russia has a good defense against HIMARS, other than the tiny fraction of the launchers they have destroyed.

Update from Ukraine | Awesome! Ukraine Cuts the Big Ruzzian Army Group in Kursk

The Russians could have used those bridges, because they will probably lose thousands of troops/engineers if they try to build pontoon bridges there.

It's somewhat speculative, but Denys predicts that Ukraine will attempt to expand the buffer zone westward along the border. That seems logical from the perspective that keeping the occupied territories close to the border will simplify logistics, where as if they go another direction, like deeper into Russia, they won't be adding more supply lines and the longer supply lines will be more vulnerable. Denys thinks they will try to increase the occupied territory to about 2000 square km. Plus it's also a good way to flip Putin's script, Putin kept talking about wanting to create a buffer zone in Ukraine to protect the border, well if Putin can do that, why can't Ukraine create a buffer zone in Russia to protect their border? Especially when Ukraine is having far less losses making their buffer zone than Russians had trying to do that in Kharkiv.

Russian military is still saying they stopped Ukraine, and deep state map shows they haven't stopped them, maybe slowed them down to advancing about 1 km per day, not bad with only 55 soldiers Russia says are left after Ukraine invaded with 1000 soldiers and Russia destroyed 945 of them according to the Russian military, but don't believe everything the Russian military says, even Putin doesn't believe them.

Artur Rehi on youtube said Igor Girkin predicted Ukraine's Kursk invasion, with a quote that sounded too accurate to be true. I tried searching for that quote, can anybody confirm Girkin said this? (He's an evil Russian ultra-nationalist jailed by Putin not for downing a commercial aircraft which he was convicted for in absentia by a Dutch court, but probably for saying bad things about Putin):

"Putin is an idiot. Russia needs more manpower, the west will arm Ukraine with the weapons it needs, the war will come to Russia, when German tanks are being operated by Ukrainians in Kursk you'll understand!"
-Igor Girkin

I find him mentioning Kursk specifically to be somewhat prophetic, if that quote is true. That's from 2:30 in this video:

Huge Russian area is Surrounded in Kursk

That may be one of his last videos, if Russian FSB has its way. They are talking about assassinating milbloggers outside Russia who supply drones to Ukraine, and he's supplied something like $700,000 worth of drones. FSB says some donate millions of dollars of drones to Ukraine. I hope the FSB doesn't kill him, he says he may start carrying a gun, he has a permit for it, but that won't stop the FSB from putting polonium in his soup at his favorite restaurant.

History legends also finally put an update, with actual play by plays and the footage to back up the narrative, including the losses that Ukraine support channels do not often mention.

And countless HIMARS and Patriot batteries have been disabled/destroyed since they arrived. Why mislead?
