Russia has suffered record losses during October according to Admiral Tony Radakin a senior Royal Navy officer and Chief of the Defence Staff.

November isn't looking too good for Russia either, regarding losses. Putin ordered his minions to retake Kursk, but they failed in October.

Now Russia has about 50,000 troops massed around Kursk (that may include the 10,000 North Koreans, not sure about that but it's just an estimate anyway). The recent attack was a complete disaster for Russia, when they sent armored vehicles into a minefield. They saw the vehicles ahead of them getting destroyed by mines, but, they just kept going into the minefield, without ever reaching Ukrainian positions. Denys Davydov thinks it may set a new record for one-day losses, and for all those losses, Russia didn't gain anything, not even a centimeter!

Update from Ukraine | The most Stupid Ruzzian Attack I saw in this war. Losses for nothing Crazy!

It was Russian mines in southern Ukraine that stopped Ukraine's counter-offensive last year, but Ukraine seems hesitant to place thousands of mines all over their own territory because it can take years or decades to de-mine the land at great risk. So I wonder if their hesitancy to litter Ukraine with mines has allowed more Russian advances than would happen if the lines were heavily mined?

Apparently Ukraine didn't hesitate to heavily mine Russian land, and we can see in this battle the effectiveness of mines in stopping an attack. Vehicles that didn't hit mines were wiped out with FPV drones. Denys can only show censored bits on youtube, but anybody with telegram can see the uncensored combat footage on his telegram channel.

Meanwhile, Russia continues to make incremental gains inside Ukraine with heavy losses. There may be a clock ticking until Trump takes office in January at which time Trump said he would end the war, so I presume Putin is trying to take as much land as possible prior to Trump taking office, regardless of the losses. Ukraine wants to have Kursk as a bargaining chip at that time, while Russia wants to take that chip away, but I think Russia lost that opportunity to do it before Trump takes office. They certainly didn't make any progress in this latest failed attack.

all that I am seeing is Ukraine getting flogged. All the maps of movement show that Ukraine is losing ground day after day, week after week and month after month.
maybe the UK and the US refuse to admit to the reality of whats happening on the ground.

Maybe take off your Kremlin issue specs?

How much ground, and at what cost?

How is Kursk going?

What do you know about the reality of what's happening on the ground?

The graph I posted on the previous page (338) confirms more or less what you say, Ukraine has been losing ground for the last year and a half.

...the gold or yellow part of the bar shows how much of Ukraine's territory is held by Ukraine. The other two colors show Russian occupied Ukrainian territory, magenta before 24th Feb 2022 and the orange after that date.

That's from this source, where it's interactive so you can scroll over the bars and see actual percentages displayed to 2 decimal places.

But, also note the graph shows that with respect to Ukraine as a whole, the losses are incremental. Remember how many months it took Russia to take Bakhmut and Avdiivka? Those weren't even large cities.

Remember how Russia's attack into Kharkiv oblast fizzled out with only small gains? Some were worried Russia might try to take the city of Kharkiv, but the current Russian army simply doesn't have the manpower to take Kharkiv or any similar-sized city, while trying to hold occupied territories.

The only way Russia could take Kharkiv or a city like it, is with a massive mobilization, but Putin has several reasons for not wanting to do that. The first mobilization was not popular, and the second one may be even less popular, or possibly cause civil unrest, and also because he would have to pull some soldiers from the factories leaving a shortage of workers to run the factories. Russia has a severe shortage of working-age and military-age men already, one of the reasons the Russian economy is in a state of emergency, because the 2% unemployment rate is too low already, causing almost out of control inflation.

Now if Trump were to somehow stop US aid to Ukraine, then unless Europe and the UK stepped up in a big way, the rate of Russian advances would probably increase, but we will have to see what happens. I don't think Putin will be agreeable to giving up occupied Kursk, if Ukraine still holds it, when Trump says it's time for the war to end.

all the facts are out there on the web for people to see.
lets see, just a few more billions of dollars,
just a few more missiles,
just a heap more ammunition,
some more jets please,
just a few more pilots
some more boys and men,
more tanks please,
and the tax payers of the UK and the US are footing the bill.
does this sound like winning.

The UK has its problems, no-one can deny that and we need to stop the slide. But its hardly as bad as Russia.
I can, and quite frequently do, openly criticise Starmer and some of his policies all without fear of being imprisoned for doing so.

If you were to gauge Russia's success considering its initial goals when the invasion initially began nearly three years ago how would you rate it?
Bear in mind Russia was at the time allegedly a military superpower with excellent fighting forces, top level equipment and far superior numbers.

It currently controls approximately 20% of Ukraine despite believing it could overrun Ukraine in a matter of weeks.
It is reliant on conscripts, convicts and North Korean soldiers to fight and its forces have been proven to be poorly trained, equipped and motivated.
Its equipment is little better than WWII standard and they are now reliant on drones from North Korea and Iran.
The Russian military is riddled with endemic corruption and its officers are poorly trained and obsessed with outdated tactics which has resulted in Russia being locked in a WWI like offensive.

Quite frankly the Russian military is now the laughing stock of the world and its only advantage is its huge numerical advantage. As a rsult Russia has suffered something like 700,000 casualties in this war and still Putin throws more and more people into the meat grinder.

Some victory.

Nothing like Russia.

We are free to criticise our Govt.

We also don't have interest rates of 21%.

Or a collapsing economy.

We also don't have to run begging to NK and Iran for military equipment.

Well there ""special Military Operation"" has indeed been going on for quite a while.

What was that supposed to be a few days, a few weeks at best???!!!

Not exactly what i think you would call going to plan Mr Putin.

And i think you may find we are all ""dying"" to one degree or another.

Russia is losing

It's certainly not winning.

putin is dying,

We are all dying, unless Putin is imune.

putin is facing a coup

Quite possible. Who knows what's going on behind closed doors.

Russia can't field enough men

Hence taking troops from North Korea.

russia is running out of armour

Hence taking equipment from North Korea and Iran. Could also be others we don't know about.

Just to balance the jingoism i see in this thread with actual analysis from the battlefield..........................

"Analysis: Russia is the dominant power in this war - and Ukraine is in trouble
Russia is currently "in the ascendancy" and Ukraine's army is "in quite a lot of trouble", says our chief correspondent Stuart Ramsay, who is in eastern Ukraine.

Moscow's forces are taking ground in the south east and massing a group of what is believed to be as many as 50,000 soldiers trying to regain Russian territory held by Ukrainians since the summer, he says.

"Russia is definitely in the ascendancy," says Ramsay.

"I would say at the moment the Ukrainian army is in quite a lot of trouble. Morale is always quite good with the soldiers because they know they have to fight, and they're determined to do so.

"But of course, like everyone here, they're looking at what happened in the United States and the results of this election and what is going to happen next... that really is the key to everything that happens in the future."

Without American support, the Ukrainian resistance against Russia "just simply can't continue", Ramsay says.

While the majority of Ukrainians don't want land ceded to Russia, there's "a large number of people in the country who believe that maybe it's inevitable", he says. news.sky.com...

Hopefully Putin sees it that way too and he doesn't smell blood wanting to take the whole of Ukraine. Johnson is now on board with committing the British army into Ukraine. I guess that will rile Vlad and he'll go for the job lot. Otherwise the Iron curtain moves eastwards in Vlad's eyes. If we stay out of it then maybe Russia will accept just the four provinces. Remember Sergei Markov stating pre 2022 SMO that Russia just wanted these four provinces plus Odessa taking back New Russia for the Kremlin and righting a historical wrong. Otherwise they'd be battling neo Nazis forever in Ukraine proper. Interesting times for sure.

It does not matter what happens at the beginning of a race,
it does not matter what happens in the middle of the race,
all that matters is what happening a the finish line.
the fat lady hasn't sung yet....but the fat lady is gaining ground every day,
Ukraine is losing ground every day.

A couple of topics that I came across this morning,
Polyakova has fallen,
Zelensky forgets Donbass,
Ukrainian retreat in Kurakhove.
this doesn't sound like Ukraine is wining to me.

the youtube...Military Summary....has daily reports and seems quiet neutral.

Putin must really want to win that big pile of rubble he's creating every day.

And yet the computer still says "No" and the people of Ukraine are still unwilling to capitulate to the Russian scum invaders.

Also, still waiting on you to provide the evidence to support your claim people have been jailed for posting a mere meme here in the UK.
