Plausible deniability serves a few purposes regarding the attack on the oil depot.

At least from Ukraine's perspective.

From Russia's point of view, just another failure on their part, that adds more fuel to the fire, scores of pun intended.

This is the "World War 3" forum so not political per-say, more war than politics.

And in this instance the thread is a continuation of another that ran near enough the apparent 400 page limit.

Then again i suppose they do say "War is the continuation of policy with other means."

Cant see what vaccinations nor peoples stance regarding such has to do with Russia's invasion of Ukraine if I'm honest.

But hey'ho cheers for the permission to "carry on", have a nice day.

That would also explain how they could fly into Russian territory so easily.

That is the big red flag to me. Because ether an enemy of russia was able to get 20 miles into russian territory and take out a very important target or it was russians themselves who did it.

Nether of those options looks good for putin. But the more likely one is that it was russians themselves. Because things would have to be going much worse than anyone realizes if it was a russian enemy that did this.

Here's the way I see this. If Ukraine attacked the fuel depot its a huge PR win. Zelenski can make a video on how Ukrain is taking the fight to Russia. However, since they denied this which let's be honest is passing up on a major PR moment. Then you have to ask why didnt they just claim it since the Russians said they did it. Then why would Ukraine deny it? Simple they think it's a Russian trap if they claimed it Russia could come ack and say no it was not Ukraine we discovered the real cause and this means they turn Ukraine into liars. So Ukraine thought it wasn't worth the risk.

So then why would Russia lie well they must want to hide something more important than there credibility. So it makes sense they dont want to admit their own troops are turning against them and to hide this even if a lie is exposed is still better. Lets face it even Ukraine denying it happened they have no proof it didnt. So Russia simply says they are lying and they can make a huge deal out of the attack.

Nonsense, we LOVE all the russian military secrets russia has given us over the past month, and are happy that most NATO countries will finally meet their spending obligations after decades of cheating and putting that burden on the U.S., but the Ukraine related spending is peanuts on the scale of U.S. defense spending, and really isn't anything to get excited about, the increased energy costs more than eat up any 'gains' there anyway.

Not sure what you are referring to as "nonsense" it works so much better if you quote what exactly it was that you think is nonsense. I assume its the quote below I only have 2 in the thread

American MIC is loving this NATO sends arms to Ukraine now all those NATO countries will likely have to buy more and upgrade. As well as we will keep on feeding Ukraine.

So the American MIC isn't loving the potential sales and research-driven by the Ukraine invasion? Have you looked at the stock prices for just these top defense stocks? Most seem to be doing just fine. Nothing is better for the defense industry than seeing your top competition crap the bed. The longer this goes the more those companies make bank.

www.state.gov...

Under FMS, the United States government manages approximately $55 billion per year in new sales of defense equipment to foreign allies and partners

It's a theory.

As to credibility, well Russia are losing that by the bucket load given there current situation.

If trained helicopter gunship pilots are turning against their own nation through, planning and carrying out there own missions, one has to wonder how the hell they managed such never mind their moxie???!!!

As to Russia telling porkies pies with regards to the current situation they have been doing so since they turned there claimed ""military exercise"" into all out invasion of there peaceful neighbour far as i can establish.

Thanks for this, great updates.

Turns out the bear is of the teddy variety. If I was NATO/US intelligence, now would seem like an opportune time to sow the appetite for pro-independence regime change in the Russian autonomous regions, the likes of Dagestan, Abkhazia and Chechnya come to mind.

U.S. defense industry revenue is massive, what we sell to other countries is peanuts, the amount this will increase by helping Ukraine defend itself from this russian invasion isn't even a drop in that bucket, while the oil & food price increases are in the trillion dollar range.

Making your entire claim absurd nonsense.

Nice opinion, now explain why a trillion dollar+ industry is excited about a few percent increase in sales for Ukraine, if that.

Your ENTIRE claim is absurd, we aren't spending anywhere near enough on Ukrainian arms to even get anyone's attention.

We are happy that most NATO countries have decided to stop cheating on their NATO obligations though, that one we are excited about, and that one is real money.

The stuff we're giving to Ukraine doesn't excite anyone except the Ukrainians being attacked by russia.

someone was asking about the Starstreak system a few days ago...i believe this is its first reported use in Ukraine.

JUST IN: A British-made anti-aircraft missile reportedly shot down a Russian helicopter in the weapon's first use in Ukraine

twitter.com...

British-made portable Starstreak missile 'shoots down Russian helicopter in its first use in Ukrainian battlefield'

A British-made anti-aircraft missile reportedly shot down a Russian helicopter in the weapon's first use in Ukraine.
The Starstreak system is a laser-guided missile that travels at more than three times the speed of sound to take down low-flying enemy jets and attack helicopters.

Footage which reportedly shows the moment the Russian Mi-28N helicopter was shot out of the sky in the Luhansk region captures the aircraft being cut in two as its tail is struck by a missile.

Concerning the video of Ukrainian soldiers kicking landmines, two possibilities come to mind. First, they are anti-tank mines and are activated by the weight of a vehicle running over them. Second, they are dummies or training aids, and the Russians attempted to bluff the defenders into halting their progress.

Nor do we know anything relating to the surrounding area, so it isn't clear if the Russians or Ukrainians attempted to channel enemy forces into a route covered by small arms fire and artillery.

Makes sense how the Mi-28 lost its tail section as those particular missiles have a delayed fuse and the 3 interally held tungsten darts which deploy shortly before impact would easily tear into such an unarmored target before detonating with 450g of explosive in each of the 3 darts. Also at a speed of mach 4 there is no dodging if the laser targeting operator is competent.

Always interesting to see systems fielded for the first time.
