Up to 60 Russian paratroopers from one unit in Pskov province refused to fight in Ukraine, according to independent Russian newspaper Pskovskaya Gubernia.
The troops were fired, and some were threatened with criminal prosecution for desertion or failure to comply with an order, the paper wrote on its Telegram channel.
Insider was unable to verify the report independently.
Pskovskaya Gubernia is a Russian newspaper known for its independent reporting. Amid the country's crackdown on independent media, last month authorities raided the paper's offices and the homes of senior employees, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists.
Local activist Nikolay Kuzmin, who is affiliated with the opposition Yabloko party in Russia, appeared to corroborate the report on Telegram.
Kuzmin said he spoke to a driver who transported some of the paratroopers from Belarus back to Pskov, an important base for Russia's airborne forces.
Russia's military's airborne force, the VDV, has suffered heavy losses in Ukraine, which has dented their previous "elite" status.

It is insane that Russia thought Ukraine would just capitulate and not fight back. Russias invasion of Ukraine is, in my opinion, one of the greatest miscalculations I have ever seen.

All dictators go through that. Putin has been the leader of Russia for the last 20+ years so it was only a matter of time before he started to believe in his own propaganda. Its the same issue Hitler had. Only his opinion matters and if you disagree you get disappeared. During the Nuremberg trials from WWII the top Nazis were interviewed. Goering was specifically asked why no one told Hitler no. He said all the "no" men had already been eradicated from Hitlers circle. The reason no one said no is because they were no longer alive.
In my opinion we are seeing the same thing with Putin. Putin believes he is right and acts but when the actions dont go according to plan someone else gets blamed. Multiple Generals were "fired" by Putin (non combat Generals - pog's)
and the head of the FSB and others in the security services realm are now under house arrest.

Yes, I agree. The problem going forwards is how does Putin extract himself without humiliation.
We know from past comments and actions that Germany and France think that Ukraine should make concessions to Putin so that he can say to his indoctrinated public that "we won". These concessions are Crimea, the south-east and eastern Ukraine, alongside a promise never to join Nato, or do anything Russia don't like. In that way, everyone will forget about the billions still pouring into Russia from Germany and the EU, and status quo can quickly return.
The other side is no concessions and Ukraine fight and on and make the price of occupying any part of Ukraine very high. They will get ample military aid of increasing sophistication from the US, the UK and other like-minded nations. Easy for me to say, but if this is how Ukraine plays, then it will be a long and complicated future, perhaps only being resolved when Putin dies.
Citing commercial flight trackers, US news website thedrive.com reported on Saturday that the six Y-20 aircraft were first spotted heading west in Turkish airspace late Friday night, and later local residents took photos of the Y-20s, which allegedly landed in Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, Serbia.
The aircraft later flew over the Bosphorus Strait in Turkey again on their way back to China. China has not made an official announcement about the mission as of press time, but the Global Times learned that the Y-20s indeed have carried out such a flight.
A whopping six Y-20 large transport aircraft could mark an unprecedented overseas operation, Chinese military observers said.
Intel just received saying trains along the Trans-Siberian Railroad are loaded with "hundreds of Chinese Main Battle Tanks and other vehicles" headed northwest toward Russia/Europe Borders.
Trains are said to be traveling full speed, with stops only for scheduled refueling and no other delays.
