The Ukrainian General Staff reported on April 7 that the Russian military began recruiting conscripts who have been discharged from military service since 2012 and is summoning them for a special three-month training period before deployment to active units.

The General Staff additionally reported that Russian units withdrawn from northeastern Ukraine are currently residing in tent camps and face declining morale.

Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) reported on April 7 that Russian military enterprises are unable to fulfill military orders due to inflation and supply chain issues, which it attributed to the effects of western sanctions.

The GUR claimed it intercepted a Kremlin report on the inability of several companies to complete state contracts and discontent over the Russian Ministry of Defense forcing companies to produce orders at a loss.

They ought to be happy. Living in a tent city in the Rodina beats Hell out of being hunted by outraged Ukrainians.

The ISW update for today is another day of few offensive operations by the Russians. Mariupol is being ground down, apparently the city of the center has been taken by "people's republic" forces (so that group claims).

Regarding offensive operations.

Looks like rain is picking up all over Ukraine and the bordering Russian oblasts in the next 10 days. The mud won't make attacks off-road worthwhile.

If the wet weather holds (rasputitsa), then both sides may end up digging in for the most part until the ground dries out in late spring and the summer. Time for the Ukrainians to build their force and time for the Russians to reorganize theirs.

I needed a good laugh!

So I am seeing reports of 60 Russian paratroopers (Elite) who were deployed to Ukraine decided they were not going to fight Ukraine. They were taken into custody and are being transferred back to Russia to face criminal charges (I assume the penalty is going to be death, or placed into a gulag praying for death).

Has anyone heard anything else about this? Considering the paratroopers are not conscripts and trained properly and are now saying no to war in Ukraine again leads me to believe Putin is in more trouble than we think.

The 'reports' are all suspiciously similar.

Considering how road and rail networks are prime targets for airstrikes, mining operations and artillery, I wouldn't expect much movement on either side. But Ukrainians are likely conducting mine clearance operations in areas taken by counterattacks.

Ample time for both sides to dig trenches, lay minefields and erect barbwire. I hope U.S. military aid relating to gas masks and other equipment relating to chemical weapons is already arriving in Ukraine.
