I think they are waiting for the now inevitable russian coup.

Which *might* happen long before russia runs out of ammo.



But I highly doubt china has any plans to take Taiwan in the near future anymore after seeing the russian military catastrophe in Ukraine.

They no longer believe their own propaganda about being able (or anywhere near able) to face off against the U.S. military.

Thanks so much for the advice Cavv. You obviously been thinking similar thoughts being a prepper. I have a friend who is also planning to get out of as much harms way before being nuked if things totally kick off proper style. He told me his destination would be Costa Rica, he reckoned it's the happiest place on Earth

First stop on my escape plan is San Jose (Costa Rica) via land transport, which is within reach of where I live.

Been there several times many years ago and believe your friend is absolutely correct, but is too close to the US and too poor(ish)/underdeveloped to deal with the massive numbers that would be suddenly arriving to plan on staying long term if russia hurls nukes IMO.

You'll find me volunteering for whatever I can do near the stadium on the Avenue Of The Americas until I can find a lift off the continent.

The war in Ukraine is shaping up as a place where old lessons are relearned the hard way. In WW2, 3 or 4 troops were deployed in logistical support roles for every front-line soldier serving with allied forces. These roles varied subject to where the fighting was taking place. For instance, constructing and maintaining airfields were paramount to enabling MacArthur's island-hopping campaign. For Slim's 14 Army, food was grown, and building/maintenance of transport-related infrastructure in India and Burma.

Russia's incompetent senior military commanders discovered the value of troops in rear area security and logistical roles.

Worryingly, the U.S. and western military's logistical capabilities suffered from 1990s budget cutbacks. The unwise and reckless shift to commercial on-demand or off-the-shelf supply chains is a fools' errand. Those measures might have sufficed in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, but in industrialised inter-state warfare, it is a route to disaster.

Also, I'm seeing a lot of low key unconfirmed reports of specific progress in the south today, with details that make debunking difficult.
