The jury is still out on how infectious you actually are if "asymptomatic" or even if there actually are that many asymptomatic people at all.

Not really.

More than 50% of N.J.’s recent COVID transmissions are asymptomatic, top health official says

www.nj.com...

Over half of COVID-19 cases are spread by asymptomatic carriers, CDC study finds

www.news-medical.net...

What do they say about seasonal sickness? Or are you also saying covid cured all that # too?

No.
But apparently social distancing and masks help prevent the spread of influenza quite well, which makes sense. Also the rate of vaccination for flu was up last year, that might play a role too.

Got yelled at for work having my mask down walking across the flight line with nobody within a 100 yards of me, another time was walking across an empty hanger.

To stick to the letter of the rules when people close in I put one on because I have to, if I am outside and nobody is near its not on and I wont put it on.

The idiotic mandate for wearing a mask in national parks is absurd everywhere outside of the check in station.

I agree with you outside if your at least 10 feet from other the mask should not be mandatory...here we have to wait outside in line with mask on to go grocery store...sometime we wait for 20 to 30 min before you can get in... And we don't complain...right now its -20c and when the sun goes down tonight it will goes down to -35c...

So for me hearing people from the US complaining about a few restriction is totally out of my comprehension... you don't hear people from Alaska complaining...

so there is more snow flake down south than there is real snow up here...lol

It does work i can confirm it...im in a small community in the Canadian artic and only accessible by plane with no more than 2000 souls and everyone took it seriously and practice social distancing and wear there mask... in 1 year we dint have a single case of common cold or influenza(flu) not one usually i get at least 2 to 3 case of cold myself per year...

So social distancing combine with a mask work...

I follow the local health orders here, masks in stores and all that. I don't bitch about it, not the end of the world. I wear n95 at work, the few days a month I work. I am burnt out though, the isolation is far worse than a mask.

I hear you. I'm an introvert so being at home so much isn't as bad, but the mask thing is starting get to me I think.

Like I mentioned up thread ... my memories of practice this are week are all of unmasked people even though I know we were all masked, and the creepy thing is that I've never seen some of them without masks. So how is my brain filling in that hole and why?

It's making me feel a little creeped out today that my brain refuses to remember anyone masked.

A weird kind of conditioning is happening, in one form or another.

I'm not super extroverted, love some alone time, but I like the routine of friday night beers with some friends, rip up the stereo, been doing it religiously for 6+ years..every Friday. Been a few months now without that weekly mental pick me up. Christmas and New Years were non events, due to the orders.

The masks we use are not really desined for the purpose there being used for

A half mask with a cotton ball on the air out valve would be more effective if the goal is to filter exhaled air atleast

I work with several people we are within a foot or two every hour of the day, the mask is utterly useless in our case.

I wear it when I go into stores that require it or to not be bothered by the idiotic 2Lt that runs up to you to scream in your face about the mask.

Ok, friend. Point taken. Allow me to simplify. I wear one (daily since 1989, even without a positive test, and having recvd vaccine dose 1, I could still be a carrier to toss it... non-arbirtarily ...to you...or anyone.

Think of it.
I'm clean, good.
No virus
Vaccinated
Enjoying better health these days

So, there are more like me...healthy...who know we could carry it...into your house.

As an just retired ER responder...I never give advice per 'se. Know why? The public don't care about it. Treat and flee, and bag 'em n tag 'em, is all folks want from us.

Ask any responder. We know what's up...you do too...
Thnx! Best

Thanks for the clarification

I'm sure you were/are very good at your work.
I also am doing my part to care for the health of strangers and others like you. Of course it's right to care for the health and well being of others; which is also why I hope that, when the time comes, there are advocates for the hundreds of thousands of people like me who lost their careers and whose kids lost crucial development time and education.

See, we're all in this together until I (and there are others who have it so much worse) need to put food on my table and then I'm on my own.

Exactly ... when will anyone acknowledge that the damage we've done to ourselves is actually worse than the disease would have been for most of us?

Truthfully, we've been very fortunate. While I lost employment status, I didn't entirely lose my job. I'm just permanent contract instead of hourly. So I can still make money unlike many who lost everything.

Our son has been able to keep up with his activities unlike most kids, so he's been active and engaged all year. I saw my nephews for the first time in a year this Christmas, and you can tell the two younger ones haven't done anything except Xbox and eat. They're meatballs with mini beer bellies.

Likewise, our son's district is one of the handful in the metro that went back to full-time school for elementary and has stuck to it with no interruptions. So he hasn't missed any more than the last couple months of the last year. But so many are still in limbo and may not get any in-person learning at all this year. That's a whole year lost.

But so many are so much worse off: no activities, no employment, no income for bills and food, no school ...

What are they being told? Who cares about them?

Well at least the COVID didn't get you, but how many of them are wishing that it had by now?

I've been wearing cool mask that I actually feel comfortable. Not these blue surgical mask crap. Sure I can wear my cool mask for 10 more years.

It's bad enough to see otherwise intelligent adults walking around with face diapers on, but those parents who make their children wear them are guilty of child abuse.

Masks do next to nothing. The new cases are largely flase positives and flu cases have been attributed to Covid deaths. And now Hank Aaron gets the vaccine and dies two weeks later. Wake up, we're being scammed. Usurper Joe didn't win the election he stole it.

Many share your view.

What will you do about it?

If you feel so righteous, then do as you please, with pride.

As for myself, I'm a blatant hypocrite.

You see, I'm playing both sides.

I don't really care if we end up enslaved; but only if that's what we chose as a people.

Whichever side the people are on is mine.

As much of a Fool as I am, I am of clear intent in my actions and inactions.

So then choose for yourself; What will you do?

Yeah, they had the anti mask league in 1918 too. They were all equally wrong.

You utter inept tools who say "but it's still spreading lmao" - yes, and it would be spreading far more quickly if everyone followed your dumb advice.

It costs virtually nothing and requires no effort. Get over yourselves you selfish children. You're the reason lockdown persists. Darwin had a point. Absolute idiots.

The mask issue is a strait up lie. Put your mask on can you smell anything through it? If you can your mask won't block anything.

The only mask that would work would be a p.a.p.r. respirator. Everyone who is wearing a mask or a handkerchief is not protected from covid.

Can you smell cigarette smoke through your mask?
The virus is 50 times smaller than a smoke particle think about that.

The masks are for the weak minded the o ly thing these masks actually do is make some people feel better they aren't protecting you from anything.

Congratulations on the most ridiculous attempt at logic I have seen in my entire life. You're like Tucker Carlson.

Just try not to breathe on someone as you may be asymptomatic.

Those of you who are afraid of getting breathed on: why don’t you just wear two masks? Hell- wear three! If they work so well, you know? Wear two or three of those suckers and you’ll be fine.

You wear the mask so that YOU don't breathe on other people.

I don't mind you being stupid, but can't you at least do it in a funny way?

Kind of sure carrying a virus and inadvertently passing it on to others that may suffer far worse effects isn't healthy, isn't it more "stupid"?
