I had to train for masks and respirators you think that a virus cant go through an opening that is 1000 times larger than the virus.

You know, on that I will absolutely agree with you. The way the shutdown was handled by pretty much everybody including the previous administration, a lot of the small business closings don't make reasonable sense. But was it a conspiracy or just bad management based on incomplete information? Yes, the rich got richer (which I am very not happy about), but that was happening even before the pandemic. That's kind of what happens with capitalism when high-paid corporate lawyers and lawmakers create loopholes like Cayman Island bank accounts that prevent the generated wealth from getting back into the rest of the economy. You and I will fight on the same side there.

However, Grandma and me are out at the local Ralph's / Kroger at the same time, and me not wearing a mask to protest the uneven distribution of wealth is not going to make that other person feel safe. That's a fight for another day. Today, until the vaccine drops the numbers down to current polio levels, I think I can wear a mask without it betraying my beliefs about the insanity where there are so many people living in poverty when there is so much wealth and abundance in the world. Just to make somebody else feel a little better, I can do some incredibly small thing.

And I don't think the masks are really all that effective unless they are of a specific type and fitted properly.

Almost no one has that type and if they do, odds are, they aren't wearing them correctly.

That is certainly not helping the effectiveness. But that still doesn't mean I should throw out my mask and not try to do this small thing if it helps someone feel a little safer. Like I said above, I guess it all boils down to whether or not you care about not purposely frightening ordinary, innocent people to make a point. A lot of people don't care. And that's sad.

Is it possible that the ineffective masks/poorly worn and handled masks are also increasing the spread of the virus?
If people feel safer with the mask, they're more likely to stay out around others for prolonged periods of time. People rewear masks and touch their faces/readjust poorly fitting masks or wear them under their noses all the time. That can't be good.

The average Joe can't be expected to model perfect mask behavior if the experts can't.

My first thoughts when I see people going into a store with no mask on is how stupid they are. How massively stupid and ignorant that they are. And I stay the hell away from them.

I can confirm to you that mask really work...

i live in a small community about 2000 peoples and only accessible by plane...No roads come here

and we've been wearing mask for almost a year now...business have remain open pretty much all the way thru the pandemic and still up to this day we dint get a single case of covid...there is no anti-maskers here everyone wear it without complaining. i know your gonna say it prove nothing maybe no one with covid flew up there...but my point is beyond covid... For the last year there been not a single case on common cold...or any case of flu...

so it prove that mask work...

When we've gotten to peak Karening where a lady comes up to a woman's unmasked little kid (under 5) and snarls at him that she hopes he dies, we've gone too far. Why on earth should I be bending over to make people like that ugly old women feel better? She doesn't seem to care about anyone but herself.

Are grocery stores where Grandma gets her cat food and bread closed where you are? I'm not talking about Grandma having to stay home from the disco. Most people still have to go out for basic necessities. So unless Grandma can afford to have all of her meals delivered, she's going to be in the same store I am.

Wait a second there, how short is your memory? During in the first lockdown nobody wore masks, we were told they weren’t that useful at preventing the spread anyway, and sanitising our hands was more important. Lots of people wore gloves for that reason but I don’t see or hear much about gloves now. Anyway everything shut down except essential businesses. My parents got a letter saying they should self isolate and so they didn’t leave the house for 6 months. The government sent them some crappy food parcels and while they tried to do the grocery shopping online, most of the time they couldn’t get a slot. So I did their shopping for them.

I did 3 times as much shopping as i normally would at the places most likely to catch the virus, the supermarkets. I always questioned does the virus not spread in these places? Worse they thought it was a good idea to shorten the opening times forcing more people to shop at a similar time. We are all stood 6’ apart outside with a strong breeze carrying any particles from the front of the que all the way to the back... of course once inside the social distancing falls apart.

Then when lockdown ended and there wasn’t a shortage of ppe(masks) we were told it was ok to put them on while stood up in a restaurant but fine to take them off to eat. Yeah that makes sense!

Meanwhile Sweden didn’t even bother with a lockdown at all, and their mortality rate is comparable with most other years, same goes for the majority of countries in fact.

Yeah there is something going around triggering auto immune respiratory disorders in a tiny % of people. Where they can’t get enough oxygen and it kills them, it’s more like altitude sickness. But for the vast majority of people it’s comparable to flu.
They 1 in 5 people have had it already, if it were that deadly there would be many more deaths.

What’s happening is this is being used to further an agenda and that agenda is 21/30

Australia and New Zealand think they're awesome too, but they're islands. That's effectively the case with you. You're so isolated from everyone else that you may as well be in the same situation. If no one with COVID ever comes in, you never had any chance to know.

Last night we went to practice and everyone has to wear masks, of course. For some reason, none of my memories have anyone in masks. I can't tell if I'm finally going mad or not. I know we were all masked, but I can't remember anyone that way, and some of them, I've never seen without masks.

We isolate only for a short period of time...the bar is open but with strict rules like wearing the mask when you get up from your table and going to other table is not aloud...but i do understand your point about maybe nobody with covid came here...but my point is that we dint even get a single case of common cold or the flu...so it tells me that mask is indeed effective in preventing the spread or viruses...

and now we start the vaccination process... i have my appointment this afternoon...by the end of next week the whole town will have the first dose so technically in 30 days we all gonna be immune and covid gonna be over...here anyway...

I dint see civilization for almost 2 years now... and in looking forward to go down this summer...

I do find it really sad. I don't see people as diseased vectors and miss society.
Not to mention, society's crucial role in human development (particularly for the young)/
Which is why I've really been trying to figure out/write about the best course forward.
