The Q quote "The day the earth stood still" stood out to me because it is a phrase that I would just normally skim by because I have seen the movie so I assume I understand the message. But what if there is more to this.
I did the usual and googled the phrase and there is the movie top and center popping up. I looked up the short story which is called "Farewell to the Master" by Harry Bates first published in 1940. The first edition of this movie was made in 1951 and the one most are familiar with was in 1971.

Has anyone examined the issue of Molyneux's problem? It involves blind people who regain their sight and the difficulties of interpreting what they are seeing.

Thinking of the silent majority. I remember in the last election what really was interesting was how few political bumper stickers there were. The silent majority were projecting very clearly that there was a huge decision being made.
I could feel it.
I spoke to a friend in California and asked what things were like there with the bumper stickers. She was driving and looked around confirming what I was seeing in another state. Interestingly she interpreted this as obviously everyone was going to vote democrat so there was no point in the bumper stickers. The conclusion was foregone.
Two people in two different states coming to completely different conclusions.
Meanwhile campaign signs in neighborhoods were very sparse and any that did support Trump were disappeared over night. Then the next night it would be the Clinton signs.
I put up a republican sign [heaven forbid] and my neighbor across the street went totally crazy. She had a democrat one and is a teacher. She raced out and I kid you not she must have put up at least 15 signs.It looked so stupid and hysterical.It projected fear. The few make so much noise to drown out the anyone who dared opposed.
Meanwhile when I went to pick up pizza I asked the pizza maker what he thought. He looked around and whispered he was afraid to say who he supported.I made the assumption and he nodded.
I witnessed so many strange activities such as people removing bumper stickers off of cars supporting Trump at the Target store.I never saw this happen with the Clinton signs. No one was wearing any hats, shirts etc showing any indication of who they were planning to support.
In other words the silent majority were holding their cards close to their chest. Many were concerned about retaliation and did not want this level of conflict right in their neighborhood.
Often I would be in company with Trump supporters but when in the company of democrats they would support that party.
People being polled would just say democrat regardless of true voting preference. There were so many campaign people going door to door pushing democrat candidate. Best approach was yep I am voting that way. If republican no doubt would say the same thing. These door to door people would have your address and what do they do with that information?
When the election conclusion was being reported that Trump had won, my friend called me from Washington DC. She was with a group that were marching on Trump Tower protesting the results.The majority[ major cities] had voted for Clinton and she had won so this was not the right outcome.
So what is the majority? The number of people in the major coastal cities or the desire of the majority of citizens in each state or those that scream loudest?
I am in a book club and it is the same thing all over again. Most are democrat and there is the constant drum of crazy orange hair man who does nothing right.There are no facts discussed. It is all reactionary emotion. He is not eloquent, not polished, not the image we want the rest of the world to see. It is worth being part of the group so that I can try and understand where their view is coming from because no one side is 100% right all of the time.
