Guys I am from Europe in a country that is worse by everything in European union but apparently we are very good against corona virus. How come all the countries around us are flooded with virus, how come situation in Italy is deadly and just beside them little country Croatia has like 60 infected.

My second question is how come in China daily virus new cases is almost zero, I am looking results at that website worldometers. Same thing is with South Korea. Why are European countrys not doing what they did and kill virus before it spreads?

all the Ontario move have been done a day before in Québec

Not sure where your facts are there or even why it’s relevant, unless this is a “Quebec is better” thing, in which case I have no interest.

Ontario announced all publicly funded schools closed on March 12. Quebec followed suit in March 13.

Quebec closed its casinos on March 13, Ontario announced theirs yesterday.

Each province had to do what makes sense and in relation to size and numbers.

Start of a state wide lockdown??

New Jersey introduces statewide 8 p.m. ET curfew
New Jersey residents are no longer allowed to travel from 8 p.m. ET to 5 a.m. ET, with the exception of essential travel, Gov. Phil Murphy announced today.

This remains in effect for the foreseeable future

Seems a little extreme.

Not really. We’re not living in 2019 anymore, this is 2020. This year will go down in human history .

Manila

needed to go do our grocery shopping last night (we were going to go today, but expected t he announcement last night was going to be about total lockdown). almost no traffic Northbound on Edasa, there was decant traffic southbound, but much less than normal. almost no traffic at all on the side streets. got to the pedestrian overpass, and watched as two armed soldiers manhandled a couple of young boys about 8 years old down the stairs (looked rather painful the way they had their arms pulled behind their back in tight grips). hadn't heard anything about the armed forces patrolling before the announcement tonight. not sure why they were being grabbed up, could be they were begging, could even be that they were just out against government orders, but my friend i was with said they smelled "rugby" on them (rugby is a type of glue, and used as the general term for glue and chemical sniffers), so that was likely the reason, that they got caught getting high sniffing glue. the malls were closed down, at sometime before 5PM. being as all the doors, including the one normally open even if the mall is not, to allow people to walk between the two LRT lines, were closed up tight.

on the way to the store we normally go to, we passed a Puregold, which was where my friend was going to shop. until they noticed the very long line to get into it. and so they decided to go to hypermarket with me instead. no line to get into the store, but was much more crowded than normal, since many people felt the announcement later in the evening was going to be about being put into a more stringent quarantine situation. (which it was). did our shopping. shelves were not empty. sure there were some brands of things out of stock. and some canned meats like spam and fish were hit rather hard. but bare shelves were not a majority. except of course for hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol and masks, which have been out for a couple weeks now. toilet paper was in abundance. there was even bleach, not a lot, but not empty either. lots of food. then we waited for about two and a half hours in a line to pay. the lines went to pretty much the middle of the store. and it's a pretty good sized supermarket. it was supposed to close at either 6 or 7 pm. we got out at close to 8:30. which is after the curfew started at 8pm. luckily there was a taxi there and we were able to get home rather quickly. now while there were a lot more people than normal, it wasn't a "panic buying", situation with people pretty much buying their normal amounts. just shopping earlier than normal due to the expected announcement.

need to go buy smokes later today, before the full enforcement takes effect (don't sell them at the grocery store). will be interesting to see how this plays out. but won't be "seeing" much due to the fact we are not supposed to be out and about. don't thing even walking my dog will be allowed. although i might get away with walking her down my street back and forth, since it is technically private property. otherwise it looks like i'm stuck in the house, going out in my walled off yard to smoke. and just taking out the garbage, and the odd trip out for things like food for the foreseeable future. i bet the net is just going to suck like it does on any holiday when people are home and overload the ISPs.

the allowing of people to come into the city for work, was a huge clusterf$%# this morning, with two friends posting within minutes of each other, fro m opposite ends of the city about the checkpoints taking a couple or so hours to get through with the hundreds of people on motorcycles, and of course the cars trying to get through. transit was even more screwed up because of bad communications from the government many didn't think they were allowed to operate, and so did not operate, making things even worse for people. which is probably part of the reasoning to implement the stricter lockdown/quarantine, with the complete stoppage of all public transit here on the main island. and that is going to be more than an inconvenient thing for many people who do not live close to decent stores. and of course all those who earn their money driving PUV's like Jeepneys, tricyes, and pedicabs who barely earn a living, now being put out of work completely. and just in my small area we are talking about hundreds of tricy drivers.

Thanks for the UPDATES UFO1414, and all the others who post UPDATES.

I have been through all the posts since last night in the CORONAVIRUS UPDATE THREAD, and there must be less than one update per page.
So, I'm not going to spend hours and hours looking thru live feeds online, to have it lost in a sea of Bollocks and Bitching.

Goodbye, and Good Luck.

edit : Oh, Some of France will likely be in lockdown from either tonight or Wednesday.
The rumour is that we are going to get 48hrs to get to destination, and then thats its for whatever time they decide the lockdown to be.

Edit: closing it’s borders to anyone who is not a citizen or permanent resident. Aviation and diplomats are exempt.

Any citizens with symptoms will not be permitted to board a plane to come here and will be denied entry.

Only four airports will receive international flights - Toronto, Calgary, Montreal and Vancouver

America began closing our borders at the end of January. Those predicting "Italy" coming to America are not taking into account the numerous preventative measures taken.

There's still this frantic doctor making rounds on TV stations predicting (without evidence) an 8 million bed hospital shortage in the US is imminent. Thankfully, Americans are increasingly understanding REALITY vs his fear mongering.

Im sorry to break it to you but there are millions of senior citizens that do NOT live in group homes. My 80 yr old father lives next door to me and my 70 yr old mother lives 50 miles away with her 75 yr old second husband. I can look after my dad and take care of his day to day needs but I cant do the same for my mother. I had to threaten her that I was going to steal her car battery if she went to the bar last Friday night. She is a huge karaoke fan. So keeping the elderly at home under quarantine isnt as cut and dried as you are claiming. My mom said she will only stay home if a full quarantine is set forth and i am sure t here are plenty of other people of the same mind that she is unfortunately.

From BBC
Anyone living with suspected case (cough/temp) should stay home for 2weeks
Work from home if poss
Avoid all social venues
Govt not going to force you though
is all i caught but main news about to come on - sure i heard over 70's should self quarantine now too but will confirm/deny shortly

edit - over70's, pregnant and people with health condition should be shielded for next 3 months (ie self impose quarantine)

Canada closing borders to non-citizens because of coronavirus, U.S. citizens exempt from ban ‘for the moment’

“We will be denying entry to Canada to people who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents,” Trudeau said.

“This measure will carve out some designated exceptions, including for air crews, diplomats, immediate family members of Canadian citizens and, at this time, U.S. citizens.”

I wonder when Whole Foods will stop serving food in the open style buffet. When I was last there customers were wearing gloves and masks and the staff were feverishly cleaning shelves and even trash containers.
However they still had loads of prepared, cooked food accessible to the general public. I din't feel very reassured to see just the glass domes that apparently are to protect the food from germs.
The other customers didn't either and no one while I was there stepped one foot near it.

www.usda.gov...

"We are not aware of any reports at this time of human illnesses that suggest COVID-19 can be transmitted by food or food packaging. However, it is always important to follow good hygiene practices (i.e., wash hands and surfaces often, separate raw meat from other foods, cook to the right temperature, and refrigerate foods promptly) when handling or preparing foods."

You can't get it through food

" Experience with SARS and MERS suggest that people are not infected with the virus through food. So, it is unlikely the virus is passed on through food and there is no evidence yet of this happening with COVID-19 (coronavirus) to date.

Coronaviruses need a host (animal or human) to grow in and cannot grow in food. Thorough cooking is expected to kill the virus because we know that a heat treatment of at least 30min at 60ºC is effective with SARS."

Just stop. You’re 100% wrong.
Yes viruses need a host. But survival on inanimate objects from 2-72 hours is typical.

I was thinking the same thing. I'd actually guess that some here are purposefully derailing the thread, and if not purposefully, idiotically. Not even intelligent conversation. I'm not going to plead for you to sort your #e out... I'm off too. Fall back behind the curve as you lose more and more...

Bye bye.

Just one last note, should you want to try and tidy it up... If you haven't got anything useful, or insightful to add, then don't write at all.
