S. Korea is doing something different and I'd sure like to know what it is. The numbers aren't low because "testing testing testing"...... they have to be doing something to keep people from getting really sick. Are they giving antivirals early on before people are so sick they are having trouble breathing? I wish we had more info from them.

You are onto something. My daughter works in this field. They have been working crippling hours in the 3D metals division.
I did ask her about this but she didn't know. Orders have soared.
Most are allowed to work from home, however this division must go to work. They are desperately needed.
This technology would be able to make parts for ventilators.
Currently she is working 60-70 hours a week.

Wrong assumption. No evidence of CoVid spreading through food.

MANILA, Philippines (5th update at 10:13 p.m.) — President Rodrigo Duterte declared an "enhanced community quarantine" over the entire Luzon including Metro Manila as part of a continuous push to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus disease. A newly issued memorandum from the Palace on the enhanced quarantine guides government agencies to ensure the following:
Prohibition of mass gatherings and imposition of strict home quarantine among all households
"Movement shall be limited to accessing basic necessities, provision for food and essential health services shall be regulated," the memorandum states. "And there will be heightened presence of uniformed personnel to enforce quarantine procedures."
Work-from-home arrangement for the executive branch
"Except the [Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard and health and emergency frontline services, border control and other critical services which shall ensure a skeletal workforce."
Only essential establishments are to remain open
"Only those private establishments providing basic necessities and such activities related to food and medicine production i.e. public markets, supermarkets, groceries, convenience stores, hospitals, medical clinics, pharmacies and drug stores, food preparation and delivery services, water-refilling stations, manufacturing and processing plants of basic food products and medicines, power energy, water and telecommunications supplies and facilities shall be open."
Despite the continued operations of the businesses falling under the above categories, they are required to adopt "strict skeletal workforce to support operations" and staff will also observe social distancing measures. Restaurants, meanwhile, are only allowed to deliver food but not open their establishments to dine-in and walk-in customers, said Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles at a press conference.
Export-oriented industries and business process outsourcing companies can also remain operational provided that they offer temporary accommodations to their personnel and observe social distancing as well.
Media practitioners will also be allowed to travel within the quarantine area as long as they are accredited via the Presidential Communications Operations Office.
Suspension of mass public transport facilities
Only private vehicles are allowed if the intention is to secure basic necessities like food and medicines. Only one person per family is allowed to buy essential items.
Employees who would normally take public transportation can be provided with private vehicles by their companies or by the local government unit.
Labor, social welfare, finance, budget and trade departments to come up with programs for affected workers and businesses
"These measures may include, but shall not be limited to, moratorium on lease rentals, advancing a pro-rated thirteenth-month pay, reprieve in utility bills, and assistance to micro-, small- and medium-scale enterprises," the memorandum states.

Very good point - this says they've been using chloroquine (malaria drug) & zinc!

NEW YORK (AP) - Governors of New York, Connecticut, New Jersey said Monday they have agreed to close bars, restaurants, movie theaters and casinos starting at 8 p.m. Monday. "Our primary goal right now is to slow the spread of this virus so that the wave of new infections doesn't crash our healthcare system, and everyone agrees social distancing is the best way to do that," Governor Cuomo said. "This is not a war that can be won alone, which is why New York is partnering with our neighboring states to implement a uniform standard that not only keeps our people safe but also prevents 'state shopping' where residents of one state travel to another and vice versa. I have called on the federal government to implement nationwide protocols but in their absence we are taking this on ourselves." The governors said essential businesses like supermarkets and gas stations will be able to stay open after 8 p.m., though all non-essential businesses must close. The crowd capacity is also limited to 50 people at social and recreational gatherings starting Monday night, following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Restaurants will be able to offer take-out and delivery, and Cuomo says establishments will be provided a waiver for carry-out alcohol. #BREAKING: NY, CT and NJ are taking joint regional action to reduce the spread of #COVID19: Effective 8PM TONIGHT: -Crowd capacity reduced to 50 -Restaurants/bars will be takeout/delivery ONLY -Gyms closed -Movie theaters closed -Casinos closed — Andrew Cuomo (@NYGovCuomo) March 16, 2020

In Sydney, Australia:
I have made the decision to self isolate myself and my family.
Hard decision... social peer pressure to "keep going as we were" is immense in Australia currently. The Aussie battler mentality is commendable but actually the worst possible approach in a pandemic.
I wish our government would make better decisions, so I didn't have to seem like the crazy one.
I am business development and strategy (founding director) of our architectural technologies company of 6 full time staff. We closed the office today, have set everyone up to work remotely, casuals and contractors already mainly work remotely anyway. Business partner has bugged out to his parents house in the mountains, will run projects and admin from there.
Wife's Architecture office of 40 took it weird when she said she was only in this morning to prepare to work from home for the foreseeable future. Boss and boss's assistant were miffed. Managing Director was weirded out, but understanding, and said they have already been preparing in the background to "work at home". Her work transition was pretty smooth today, but will be weird in the coming weeks. A couple people quietly let her know they agree with her decision, and that we were probably a few days ahead of the curve.
I suspect she has triggered a movement in her office.
I received inside info from a colleague at St.Vincent's Hospital in Sydney. They had an early morning meeting about coronavirus triage. Effective immediately; over 60's will be denied respirators if they require one!!!
So... based on that, my simple reasoning is:
- My mother is 72
- Since she will be denied a respirator (over 60), we have to isolate her now (if I want her risk to be as close to zero as I can get)
- If she does have it, and we find out soon, that's good, as our health system still isn't over-run yet, so she can get the care she will need
- If she doesn't have, we will KNOW for sure in a couple weeks
- I suspect 2 to 6 weeks from now will be the worst possible time to get sick in Aus, as you may be denied medical care in an over-run system
- In my job, I have come into proximity with maybe 300 different people in the last week (conferences, networking events, meetings, etc)
- I have confirmed that the virus is only 2 degrees of separation from me (a colleague I was with at an event last week has two people that have been "exposed" in her office of 150)
- Because I can not know if I have it, all my family has gone into isolation from each other for at least the next week (about 80% sure you don't have it if you haven't shown symptoms for 7 days or so) until we are sure we don't have it
- Then we can see each other again in isolation from the rest of the world
- Since we'll all likely get this over the next few years, I'll take my dose of coronavirus in September, after our system has learnt to deal with it... thank you very much!
My deeper reasoning is that this is now a frightening world for many people, and as the majority of people come to the realisations that members of ATS have been grappling with for months, there is a sense of panic and impending doom generated across society.
So... we need level heads. We need people that when everyone else panics in a coupe of weeks, there are those everyone else can look to as examples of how a business world forced into isolation can still function effectively... and in fact with the right organisational techniques, can even thrive and benefit society in these trying times.
We need people who suggest, instead of canceling meetings, to have them via conference calls... we need people who can re-imagine a work place that actively keeps people distanced... ideas like 24-hour scheduled small staff teams, in business that have to "be there".
It's all possible... as long as we don't destroy society in our panic that is... interesting times ahead either way!
I maintain a positive outlook in the inherent good of people.
You are not the only one that has made this decision, so don't beat yourself up over it. Who cares what others think.
We locked in on Friday afternoon. Mostly to protect my 85 yo mother, but none of us want to get this stuff either.
