When I first starting reading about what was occurring in Wuhan the first idea that popped into my head was the food insecurity issue.
I went to the local nursery and bought seeds and growing medium. There was no one there then and I got everything on sale.
As family saw me continue to plan, setting up shelving, making lists of necessary items and what food items would be required to sustain us for period of time they really thought I was losing my mind. Lol
Sadly I see that I was right and my concern was not misplaced.
I have many elderly neighbors and I wonder about social isolation. Many neighbors on the Next-Door Neighbor site are offering to deliver food to them. This is a wonderful action plan where neighbors pitch in to help each other. They are very vulnerable.

I was in the same situation, I even made a post on ATS a month ago or so. Now we are happy for the extra food, no one is making fun of me anymore.
However, let me stress this. We won't run out of food. Period. However you will save yourself a trip to the shop once everyone starts panic buying and by that a chance for catching the Covid while shopping. I'm not using my stored food yet though. I'm going to buy food at those odd hours when there is no people untill it isn't possible anymore

I believe that the virus is airborne as was suggested in youtube videos taken in Wuhan. Military was used to spray disinfectant on the streets, building and open spaces. They also used agricultural drones.
I wonder if rain/snow can clean these virus particles from the air?
Maybe right after is when we can safely be outside.

And so it begins with fast food.

Taco Bell plans to do drive through, or delivery only. No more sitting at a cramped booth, scarfing down mystery meat.

dont eat at any fast food restaurants

You can't catch it through food so drivethroughs are safe, unless the one handing you the food over touches your hand and than you touch your face afterwards etc.

And if the person assembling your meal is newly infected and sneezes?
I worked in this industry fast food as well as restaurant front of house and back for many years. I can assure you it’s hardly sanitary, people do their best but no one is wearing face masks back there.

It is found to stay active/alive on surfaces for some time. Drink cups, wrappers, condiments, napkins and the like can harbor viruses.

"being told to sing happy birthday whilst washing our hands to destroy the Wuhan flu germ.
The thought suddenly occured to me, why choose this particular song?"

Because it's in the public domain.

Its actually not. Restaurants have been forbidden from using that song when doing their silly happy birthday singing to patrons. Ridiculous if you ask me...

Actually it is.

law.duke.edu

“Happy Birthday” is in the public domain. In September 2015, a court invalidated Warner-Chappell Music’s claim to copyright in “Happy Birthday to You,” meaning that filmmakers, restaurants, and others no longer have to pay them licensing fees for using the song. (They had been collecting an estimated $2 million in annual fees.) Essentially, the court held that Warner-Chappell doesn’t own the rights to the “Happy Birthday” lyrics (the music is already in the public domain)

Keep seeing stuff like this

The hospital found out she posted about her grandson having cv and pneumonia on Facebook and asked her to take it down to stop people panicking! SHOCKING!
I can't even believe a hospital would do this in the UK. I bet there are so many cases like this we don't know about.

This is the same kid I posted about yesterday, I thought it odd I couldn't find the corresponding post on Facebook to link to.

No we know why.

Anyay, using my special skills at tracking down "things" I can tell you as per the screenshot his name is Cody, and I can also tell you he is at the University Hospital Hartlepool, so........

.......if anyone has the kahoonas to ring them up (on +44 01642 617617) pretending to be from the relevant UK authorities checking on his condition, then you'll rapidly know the truth about how this effects young people.

TWO ER DOCTROS TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

One doctor in his 70s in Paterson, New Jersey, tested positive for the virus after coming down with respiratory symptoms, while another ER doctor in Kirkland, Washington, has symptoms consistent with the virus

Today we received word that two of our ACEP members are in critical condition as a result of COVID-19. An emergency physician in his 40s in the state of Washington presented with symptoms consistent with the COVID-19 syndrome. A 70-year-old member in New Jersey has tested positive for the virus.

If there's ever a vaccine, medical staff should be vaccinated way before any politicians or head of state.

I'm sorry what madness are you blathering on about?

If someone preparing the food, or the packaging, or breathing on you or your food at any point haveit, then you've got it too.

Of course you can get it from going through a drivethrough.

You're not a McDonalds franchisee are you?

There could be fecal-oral transmission of the coronavirus also, according to this article; so, if the fast food employee doesn't wash their hands like they should after using the restroom, it could possibly be transferred in the food:

"The possibility of faecal–oral transmission of SARS-CoV-2 has implications, especially in areas with poor sanitation. Coronaviruses are susceptible to antiseptics containing ethanol, and disinfectants containing chlorine or bleach.15

Strict precautions must be observed when handling the stools of patients infected with coronavirus, and sewage from hospitals should also be properly disinfected. The importance of frequent and proper hand hygiene should be emphasised.
Future research on the possibility of faecal–oral transmission of SARS-CoV-2 should include environmental studies to determine whether the virus remains viable in conditions that would favour such transmission. Study of the enteric involvement and viral excretion of SARS-CoV-2 in faeces is required to investigate whether faecal concentrations of SARS-CoV-2 RNA correlate with the severity of the disease and presence or absence of gastrointestinal symptoms, and whether faecal SARS-CoV-2 RNA can also be detected in the incubation or convalescence phases of COVID-19."

There is just way too much that we don't know for sure yet. Best to be careful in every way, and personally, I am done eating fast food for a while, at least.

Medical staff are usually required to be vaccinated, for that very reason.

You can't catch it through your stomach.

"Meanwhile, a rep from Five Guys tells us that the burgers-and-fries chain is carrying out additional cleaning for all "customer touch points" (door handles, condiment tables, and other high-touch surfaces) "

You're not an uneducated yank, are you?

Yes to planting. I am not a farmer but last year for some reason (instinct?) I tried my hand at it. One thing is to be absolutely certain you are only trying to grow things that grow well in your area. You'll fight an uphill battle trying to grow your favorite stuff it's not used to your climate. Anyway, we had fresh okra and cantaloupe all summer for $8.00 total. Sadly, I lost $4.00 on watermelon plants that did not do well but I know a lot more this year than last. I've already planted for this year.
