The global coronavirus death toll has hit 3,000 following a sudden spike in Italian cases.
Five fatalities were announced in Italy today, taking its death toll to 34 as infection continues to cripple the country's northern regions.
Total patient numbers rose to 1,694 after the Civil Protection Agency revealed roughly 500 fresh positive tests this evening - an alarming 50 per cent climb in just 24 hours.
The outbreak is the second largest outside of mainland China and is steadily seeping across the continent, despite the infection hotbeds of Lombardy and Veneto on lock-down.
Ministers in Rome have taken drastic measures to firefight the epidemic, including scrapping public events and erecting police checkpoints around the 11 contaminated towns.
But despite the travel freeze from the virus-hit areas, where 50,000 citizens are in quarantine, cases scattered across Europe have been traced back to Italy.

has been accused of failing to clamp down on coronavirus contamination after alarming videos of worshippers licking a shrine emerged online.
Clips shared on social media show people licking the doors and burial mound inside the Fatima Masumeh shrine in Qom, defying token advice by the health ministry.
Worshippers in the videos brazenly state they 'don't care what happens', even if they catch or spread the infection which has killed at least 54 in the country.
Iran's hardline clerical establishment has refused to shut down Qom despite the holy city suffering the brunt of the outbreak and pilgrims spreading the virus across the Middle East.
One person who kisses the shrine in the holy Shi'ite Muslem city demands people 'stop scaring people [about] coronavirus. A child is even hailed for licking the doors.
Journalist Masih Alinejad, who tweeted the worrying clips, said that by keeping the religious sites open, the regime was 'endangering the lives of Iranians and the world'.

I just like to say that I am fed up with the prepper advice on here.
We [in our home] can't prep for long, we can't buy stuff for months on end. We are dependent on civilised people tp only buy what they need, so that everyone has food/important other stuff for as long as possible.
If you want to prep do it. I considered it but can't. So all the bloody amounts of what to buy in a self righteous panic means less food for others and their animals.
I am not even worried about this virus, not at all. Que sera sera.
What I am worried about are the people that will empty the shops because they have the money, the storage, the ability etc and then when others come and want to just buy what they can actually use, there is nothing left.
If you are so keen on prepping, do it. Why do you have to shout it out to the world?
I know why. It shows how much better you are, and how you knew all along how bad it would get whilst others just didn't believe you. But even if the others are sheeple or cynics or stupid or whatever, some people would like to go shopping and actually find some food, yes even those who were optimistic at first.
There should really be a separate thread for prepping advice so that it doesn't clog up actual updates.
I have not read much more on this thread lately, because of all the 'you must do this and get that if you want to live BS'. If you were really clever you'd keep this to yourself, so you can buy even more and live even longer than others.
You ever seen what it looks like on black friday when people are fighting to buy crap they don't even need?
Well that's how civilised it's going to be when people need food.
I'm sorry you aren't in a position to prepare, but throwing a hissy fit at everyone who can isn't changing your position, nor does it serve any purpose.

My husband's employer called him last night to let him know that one of our drivers has been quarantined. His father-in-law 70yrs old is sick in the hospital after returning from vacation in Asia. He afraid the whole shop has iit. They had a BBQ at lunch last week. Joe was cooking. We are calling our doctor tomorrow. This is in lake county, I'll.

Iran’s telecoms minister has said that the country will kick off the fifth generation of internet communications, known as 5G, in the next Persian calendar year starting late March. Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi said on Thursday that Iran had carried out all preparations needed for launching the 5G network. “The regulatory is introducing the rules ... we hope we could implement a first version of the 5G network in Iran next year and start offering services,” said Jahromi.

I agree with the above

OK, I posted it and I carried it to an extreme level I shouldn't have. We can make mistakes in life when we are faced with difficulties and really not know what to expect.
Due to a few recent events, wife unemployed now, I having a accident falling down a hill and required 5 out patient visits (but after last night post, I think my accident not only affected my chest, but now after reading the above post, I think it affect my way of posting Should I say regret posting that thread, in away I think I should and I should go a bit farther doing so, but ... what we now actually have learn about MIM posting and the steps of occurrences under stress, and anxiety and not having an income coming will and does take a toll under the roof. So I guess what has taken place now over the last 2 weeks can just happen to anyone here. Or judgement might get overwhelmed by our actions.
Of course we get the news on NHK at nighttime , one at 7pm and the other at 9 pm, but for the last couple days, the wife changes the channel. To heavy to bear. Her voice is actually weak and her judgement on doing things, to me seem a bit confusing at times.
Well that's it. I'll be back at the drawing board here with updates as I get them.
Today I shouldn't have done this, but OK, I'm kind of wild . LOL I could have got sent to the police office by the store security, but I took some chances and took a few pictures. I know my post have been kind of "thick", but pictures give a better example what I've been saying. Some have posted that what I posted is "I must be dreaming", Tokyo is nothing like what I'm posting, which in fact just may be true. Tokyo is not in my back yard.
A little update: Feb. 2 Monday 9 pm Tokyo time
1. 14 new cases yesterday (Sunday is a slow day for reporting new cases)
2. including the Diamond Princess 973 cases of infection (subject to change) 254 Japanese and other nationalities in Japan have been infected (current numbers may change by 9 pm tonight)
3. Something was said about 86 of the passengers on the ship may be responsible for further spreading the virus ( language translation here, maybe take this with a grain of salt)
4. Schools are closed, but get this, not all schools are listening to PM Abe to close schools. Its been reported that 295 schools across the country open its doors to school children today. (when hearing that , I had to think, do the principles of them schools actually have a family life they enjoy)
5. Hospitals are facing a shortage of nurses (they need to stay home and care for their children) govt . will give compensation to these type of people that become temp. unemployed to take care of their children
6. It has been stated that young children usually will have a mild symptom but the danger is they can pass it along to other people that have weak body health problems
7. Something to do with Bank of Japan putting 500 billion yen in the market
8. Today the share prices were rebounding (how long this will last..)
9. Something about a G7 preparing something to be announce
10. Just how bad is the economy from last year this time... 20% decrease of activity
11. South Korea: 4335 infected... 599 today showed positive
OK here are some pictures I took today
The bottle of whiskey I just had to put on the shelf , have to keep my humor up, right
all the shelves, top and bottom empty
This is the ramen shelf, not really empty but notice how the stock was pulled up
Well I didn't get carted away in a police car. LOL but there is a sign on the entry door "NO CAMERA"
These are my pictures, if you like to post them on the net, I guess it is OK, I won't say nothing to you, but kindly let me know if you do. thanks

So far by the numbers
16 in California
1 in Massachusetts
13 in Washington state (includes the 2 fatalities)
1 in Arizona
3 in Illinois
1 in Wisconsin
2 in Oregon
2 in Rhode Island
1 in New York
2 in Florida
This illness incubates for 2-6 weeks. These are just the people we know about. How many more are infected that we don't know about?
The government knows more then what they're willing to tell us. Trump telling the CDC to cease and desist isn't helping my anxiety over the situation. This administration isn't being transparent with us. I want to hear from the CDC and what they know.
