I just sent this letter to the School District Superintendent. I will report back what kind of response I get.

Dear Mr. S,
I wanted to make you aware of the plans I have for my children and family. As we know Covid-19 is particularly hard on older people, especially those with other health conditions. The global mortality rate for those over 80 who become infected is close to 15%. My mother is 85 years old, with several other health conditions, and just had a medical procedure done today up in Rochester. She will be staying with us for the foreseeable future, as she will need care.

I have no intentions of allowing her to become infected, and for that matter the rest of my family. I have been watching this very closely, before most anyone had ever heard of it, because my business relies on parts and components from China. Due to what went on over there, and hearing first hand from vendors who could not supply parts for 2+ months, I think it is better to be cautious.

I think we are just beginning to see the effects of this, and due to low testing rates, and long incubation times, it has potentially spread much further than what we are currently seeing.

To prevent infection in my home, I plan on keeping my 3 boys home beginning Monday 3/16/20, for a period of at least two weeks, and then reevaluate at that time. This will give time to see if the virus begins to die out, or spread more widely. We will be sheltered at home during that time, with no one coming or leaving. We are well prepared to shelter in place for much, much longer if needed. Based on what we have seen in other countries, I believe that we will be seeing mass school closures by the end of the month, or the beginning of April.

During this time, I do not want my children to fall behind in their schoolwork, or get into trouble for being absent. If there is a way for them to continue their studies on line, through the mail, or another method, please let me know.

As a homeschool parent, I encourage you to never again find yourself in the ridiculous and draconian position of feeling the need to "ask permission" or even justify your parenting actions to some tax leech dipsnip artificially placed in a position of authority in your community. Whatever goes down with this Coronavirus, whether it changes life as we know it or becomes just another blip in the nation's history, eff the public school system! Homeschool your children and reclaim the authority God issued you over your own house.

I seen some posts on Reddit about responses people are getting. I'll have to go dig it back up. One person said their school in Maryland was fully supportive while most are giving out
'the truancy response.'

The one where if your kid is absent too much they request a meeting and then threaten to turn you in.

I haven't pulled my middle schooler yet. I just brought it up to my husband.

My letter went in the trash.
My middler schooler has the grades, test results, and behavior they drool over. The teachers love her. I now have the attitude that - THEY are the lucky ones to have access to HER, and THEY better hope I just don't pull her altogether for homeschooling. They can shove their letter.

I have considered it more than once. My oldest is in a STEM school, and my middle is looking to go there next year. That is not something we can do from home. So I hate to ruin the chance of them getting their 2 year degree, when they graduate High School.

Your opinion is much appreciated, and food for thought.

Long time lurker here i mean going back to probably 2010. I decided to make an account because it seems like this new rochelle quarantine in NY is just the beginning. I live about 3 miles from there so I'll be looking to head out there and see how it's being done, looking forward to updating everyone here.

I also feel like numbers are being way underreported and once the incubation period ends for the new cases the numbers are gonna explode. NY was slow in response to quarantining some people and it seems to def be spreading faster than they can test.

Just keep in mind you don’t want to bring the virus back with you when you go investigate the quarantine. That’s assuming you don’t already have it .

Take pics !

homeschoolingforcollegecredit.com...

Picking the right program for homeschooling high schoolers can actually get them the same college credits these days. I have no idea what's available where you are, but here in Alaska we even get a state stipend for homeschooling that covers the cost of the ciriculum materials and goes towards extracirricular activity costs (my two, for example, are in youth shotgun league and archery, both of which count as their PE credits).

Not sure if anybody posted this new news from NY: cuomo to send in National Guard.
www.wktv.com...

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the state is closing schools, houses of worship and large gathering spots for two weeks in a “containment area” centered in suburban New Rochelle. It's the heart of what Cuomo described Tuesday as the nation's largest cluster of cases of the coronavirus. Cuomo says the state will send National Guard troops to help deliver food and clean surfaces in the area, a 1-mile-radius around a point near a synagogue connected to some existing cases. Schools will close for two weeks starting Friday, and state and local officials are working to determine “large congregate facilities or gathering places” that also will shut down.

Tennessee stops naming county of those testing positive.

Tennessee COVID-19 location omission sparks questions

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee is limiting what information it releases about coronavirus cases, becoming an outlier compared to most other states and sparking alarm among some officials worried the move will only stir public mistrust.

Disagreement over the policy emerged this week as Tennessee’s Department of Health announced that it will no longer identify the county of where a new COVID-19 case is confirmed.

The Tennessee Department of Health said the goal is to protect patient privacy. But critics warn that the move leaves the public in the dark about areas they may want to avoid.

“I fully acknowledge and understand that everybody wants to know the county because everybody wants to try to determine their own risk,” said Health Commissioner Lisa Piercey. “That’s understandable. But we also have to keep in mind that we’re talking about patients here.”

There may be a treatment in the works ... They've been testing chloroquine, the anti-malarial, and it seems to be yielding positive results, especially in South Korea.

This video explains why that may be, and it turns out that zinc inside your cells seems to inhibit viral reproduction. But, you have to get the zinc inside your cells. The chloroquine does that. It creates a pathway for the increased uptake of zinc into your cells, and the more zinc your cells have inside, the harder it is for the virus to replicate.

Indiana failing to follow up on cases. Pence's home state.

She thinks she might have coronavirus. The state (Indiana) won’t respond to her email.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - An Indianapolis woman who suspects she and her elderly mother have been infected with coronavirus is still waiting to be contacted by state health officials – more than 72 hours after she contacted the Indiana State Department of Health’s coronavirus call center.

“I don’t understand it – not at all,” she told 13 Investigates. “They set up the call center for people like me to call and told me I’d be contacted right away, but I’m still waiting and haven’t heard a word from them. It’s disappointing.”

The woman, who asked not to be identified for fear of retaliation by her employer, attended a company meeting two weeks ago. That company has international offices across Europe and Asia – including in countries that have been hard hit by confirmed cases of COVID-19 – and employees who had recently visited those international offices were present at the meeting.

A week later, the woman said she woke up with a 103-degree fever, a cough and tightness in her chest. She stayed home from work to self-isolate herself from co-workers, and began to feel better by late last week. Her fears began to ease – until two events took place on Friday morning.

First, Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb declared a state of emergency after learning about Indiana’s first confirmed case of coronavirus in Marion County. That same morning, the woman learned that her elderly mother had a high fever and was experiencing the same symptoms she had earlier in the week. The symptoms combined with her exposure to foreign travelers who had visited countries experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks seemed to be the type of information the ISDH would be interested in, she thought.

After all, the state’s commissioner of public health stood alongside the governor to reassure residents and to encourage them to report suspected cases of the illness.

“The situation with COVID-19 is changing rapidly and we can expect to see other cases in Indiana in the future,” Dr. Kris Box said. “We will deploy all steps needed quickly to protect Hoosiers.”

National Guard called in, 16 new cases in 24 hours called "too quickly to breakdown," using prison labor to make hand sanitizer to save the state money (a move a wholeheartedly applaud and feel should become the norm in all things after this outbreak is over)... sounds to me like DeBlasio and Cuomo are trying to get the federal government to foot the bill for all of this more than anything else. Just how bad is New York's financial situation?
