Is there only 1 shop in South~Korea which sells face masks?? Looks like it from the video at link.

Hundreds of people have been filmed queuing up to buy face masks in the city at the centre of South Korea's coronavirus outbreak. A long line of people snaked out the doors of a supermarket in the city of Daegu on Monday as people tried to protect themselves against the spread of the disease amid fears of a global pandemic. South Korea now has the largest number of confirmed cases outside of mainland China after infections spiked at the weekend, standing at 830 by Monday morning.

www.dailymail.co.uk...

Eight people have also died from the disease in the Asian country. The astonishing scenes outside the supermarket were captured by South Korean newspaper Maeil Shinmun. More than 140 of South Korea's new cases were in and near Daegu, the city of 2.5 million people where most of the country's infections have occurred.

Thank you so much for posting those photos. What are those boxes in the shopping carts?

I'm certain I've seen that exact photo of shopping trollies, but last week. 99% certain. I've seen a lot of stuff last week, I think my brain buffer may be full

They were sent to me today. I assumed they were today's pictures, if not, thanks for pointing that out. Either was the pictures resemble what we are seeing on the shelves for mask, tissue paper and toilet paper here. Masks are gone , but we'll see them shortly. The other 2 are not in short supply yet. Rice can still be seen, no rush on that . Vegetables and fruits are going to have to be wrapped shortly. I won't buy unless wrapped.

This virus has taken a hold in the Middle-East. Overnight developments indicate cases in Bahrain, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. Bahrain is in close proximity to Saudi Arabia. From there it's only one border from reaching Africa.

I my humble opinion, if this hits Africa it's game over. Global pandemic with massive infection rates. Perhaps I'll move to Madagascar.

You won’t need a bunker, it’s just going to one heck of an inconvience and pain in the rear end for a couple weeks plus up to a decade of economic damage. I don’t have time for another lung infection, too busy. Hopefully the one that knocked us on our butts last week was this thing and they neglected to report it.

2/3 kids didn’t phase them, except for the stomach flu that followed. The oldest had a seizure from it but he has epilepsy.

At this point, testing will be documented by the public health network for research and data, it’s just what they classify it as, viral pneumonia, viral bronchitis, upper respiratory infection, probable influenza or covid-2019. I could see them letting in burn through the population for awhile before making a declaration. They did similar things with the Swine Flu and that infected over a billion people.

Here is Warren Buffets take on the matter.

That's good for us actually, we're a net buyer of stocks over time," the billionaire investor and Berkshire CEO said. "Just like being a net buyer of food — I expect to buy food the rest of my life and I hope that food goes down in price tomorrow."
"Who wouldn't rather buy at a lower price than a higher price?" Buffett continued. "People are really strange on that. They should want the stock market to go down, they should want to buy at a lower price."

you should be happy

While he isn't entirely wrong from an investment standpoint. One thing that old uncle Warren is forgetting is a serious market crash that will affect millions, possibly billions of people that do not have the liquid cash, not only to invest, but to buy living goods such as food and toiletries.

Just like a typical businessman and authoritarian mouth piece.

I just hope that it doesn't go down too far and trigger the crash.

Cornczech i suppose what you describe is quite common today, some people even use the word epidemic...

vitamin d deficiency a global epidemic

I suppose it has to do with pollution, since people who live with sunny places can also get vitamin D deficiency.

Could this be the "factor" how WuFlu effects to some people and some dont...because, with pollution it`s then double whammy...as pollution harms lungs/ effecting cilium cells, and also could cause vitamin D deficiency ?

With something like this, I feel like there wasn't much they could do to stop it from getting out. The best chance was very early on, and once they started shutting down whole cities, it was sort of just a matter of time.

Now the important stuff is how bad it really will be.

I'm not sure China is the whole story. We'll see from South Korea and Japan to get a clearer picture of where we are.

Is the killer coronavirus now disease X? World Health Organization expert warns the infection is 'rapidly' fitting category for the mysterious pathogen scientists fear will kill 80million

www.dailymail.co.uk...

A virus expert from the World Health Organization said the coronavirus could be the 'Disease X' which experts have warned about. The name is given to a future disease which could break out among humans and wreak havoc across the world. The coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2, has infected around 80,000 people in the two months since it emerged at an animal market in Wuhan, China in December. It has killed more than 2,600 and is capable of causing severe lung damage and triggering multiple organ failure, mainly among old or sickly patients. Dr Marion Koopmans, a virologist for the WHO, said: 'Whether it will be contained or not, this outbreak is rapidly becoming the first true pandemic challenge that fits the disease X category, listed to the WHO's priority list of diseases for which we need to prepare in our current globalized society.' Her comments come less than six months after a report led by a former WHO official which warned a flu-like illness could kill up to 80million people if it broke out. Recent developments in the outbreak include the first cases being declared in Afghanistan, Bahrain and Kuwait today, and a fifth person dying in Italy.

The Event 201 Scenario

Coronavirus breaks out of South America, we’re at the end of part 1 right now
If you want a comparison. It’s very similar, at least policy and reaction wise.

I hate to say this..

The world seems poised to let this run its course.

Action we are seeing taking place is NOT to contain the infection, more to control the numbers so hospitals aren't completely overwhelmed.

The cornonavirus is here to stay.

Y'all stay safe out there.

Unfortunately "controlling" the numbers on paper and what's put out through the media, isn't going to do a damn thing to keep hospitals from being over run

Watch the UK, Italy, and Japan

They all are first world medical countries

Once those in the US and other places are forced to actually stop and look at this, instead of the ol "it will never happen here" mentality. Then it's a wrap

Why health officials are still not calling coronavirus a pandemic
From CNN's John Bonifield

Health officials have yet to label the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic — but they could be close to calling it one.

"We're on the knife's edge," said Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious disease specialist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and a longtime adviser to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"We're really on the brink," says Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes for Health.

There is no precise, mathematical definition of a pandemic. Outbreaks get characterized as pandemics by epidemiologists — who are not yet using the term.

So why aren't epidemiologists labeling this a pandemic yet? It’s because they've yet to see sustained transmission among people who have not recently traveled to China or had close contact with someone who recently traveled to China.

It's not enough for a cluster of disease in a country to exist and even spread — it has to spread in a sustained way, from person to person, time and time again, through many generations of transmission.

I think that Italy is more of a model for the UK than maybe the US, I know Italy isn't an island but it is more out on it's own and geographically quite small.

You have to calm down man and stop posting stuff that's hugely unverified and stop making huge assumptions

SK is a country w millions of people, that store in that area might be the only place in the area w stock, could be anything

Not trying to be a prick, but you're not helping the thread by spam posting everything like a panic button

Read it, evaluate it, cross reference it etc. If it doesn't add up disregard it

That is unless your intent is to just try and push panic

Italy is a little different. It survives because it keeps getting propped up by the rest of Europe.
