Yes, Turkey is key to the influx of immigrants into Europe.
Merkel had a meeting with Erdogan last October in order to try to get a solution for the mass influx of immigrants to Europe.
Erdogan wants billions in support for the refugees and speed up negotiations to become a member state of EU.
Considering the fact that Turkey has gone downhill when it comes to human rights, think about justice, cyprus, freedom of press, freedom of speech.
Certainly after May/June 2013 the relations between the EU and Turkey deteriorated because of the harsh police force against protesters.
In this light it is rather peculiar that Merkel agreed with Erdogan that Turkey should quickly become a member state of the EU.

It was also not shared by other member states and even within Germany they took notice of this news with disbelief.
And i don't know how the turkish people think about this, to my understanding only 40 percent is in favor of joining the EU.

Hollande and the Italian president Renzi are currently working together and support a global agreement with Turkey on the refugee crisis, coming sunday there will be a meeting, the european council will be held in the presence of Turkish authorities in order to reach a global agreement with Turkey.

So it is all politics which is of course the prefered route, diplomacy instead of fighting.

Ok, i'm reading ATS for 3 years now and finally i registered here. First of all, english is not my first language, so im sorry for mistakes. I'm from Russia and i'm currently working for FSB (it's like CIA in US i guess). I'm not an agent, or whatever you call it, i am just IT specialist.
I read through this thread and I've got a feeling that you just don't understand neaither Putin, or russians. Many of you saw Putin as strong leader and he sure is, but those who are saying they want leader like that in they own country is crazy. I mean, yeah, Putin is strong leader as far as foreign politic goes, but inside Russia... Damn. No, it's not that bad! I mean, c'mon, there is no poverty here, our streets are not dangerous as they were in 90's, but there is corruption. Corruption is everywhere! There is no opposition. ABSOLUTELY no opposition to Putin. We have many different parties, but they are just puppets of Putin, and they are not ashamed of this fact. Democracy is a myth here.
And you know why? Russian hates democracy! F'n hates it and proud of it. 85-90% of russians hates US and EU. Not people, but goverment. Why? Because of propaganda. You know, russians are very easy to manipulate. I guess same goes for other countries too. Our people despise you, guys. And there is one thing about russians, that you probably heard of... We are fast to mobilize! Oh, hell yeah, we are fast. Give us an enemy and whole nation will go crazy! It's something barbaric you know. So right now ratings of Putin i great not becaue of Putin himself, but because of hatred towards US and EU that "tries to destroy our motherland"! It's a fact. I hate it. I am ashamed that our nation is so easy to manipulate. Not all are like that, but if i would say that i have nothing against EU, or US and i don't approve our politics there would be !@#$ storm towards me!
I don't even know why i'm writing all this. Probably because i'm drink a little bit too much. Nah, i'm drunk not because all russians are alcoholics! My friend have his first child today, so we was celebrating... Anyway. Don't fool yourselfs about Putin, he is not a saver, neather he is a good man. And don't fool yourself about russians... Man, that sucks so much.
And yeah, working in FSB gives you insight on foul policies and f'd up things our goverment do.

I do not have the feeling many think that he is a saviour, it is absolutely irresponsible to look to a leader (or government for that matter) on what to do.
I prefer self determination, critical thinking and the ability to speak my mind without having to be afraid for authorities.
Democracy is a nice idea, no more than that, we in western Europe don't even have democracy, the voice of the people falls on deaf ears throughout the world, well maybe Switzerland with their referendum is an exception.

There is no democracy at all. I have strong feeling that all goverments are about the same as far as methods of work goes. Obama, Bush, Putin, Medvedev - it's all the same. There is political gangs controling our goverments. Im not insider by any means, but sometimes there is specific documents that coming through my department that is so f'd up and for me there is no doubt that certain people are far more important and powerful than president of Russia, or US, or any other country. I'm not saying that president is not making any decisions, but he is heavy influenced by others.
But you know it better than me, ATS is the one of the most paranoid websites I have ever visited.

I think the other issue is most people think they live in a democracy when in fact they dont. As an example the US is not a democracy, its a constitutional representative republic where 435 congressman/woman represent the population, 100 Senators represent the states and the President represents it all on their behalf.

Dont feel so bad about your democratic rights, if you wish to be entertained and get some knowledge about it, read the myths of Esopous. Its all about it!

You see Dymocracy is a tool that can lead into good things under certain conditions, but also extremely bad things in most cases, is a tool of corruption as well, given and promoted after atlantis. The basic idea of that model of ruler ship was for all the unworthy humanoids/abominations be able to rule. You see, the original model of ruler ship my country have before it, was "only the worthy could rule", strong intelligent men and women. Therefore abominations could compete those men and women!

I would suggest you to study the myth of Aesop (Αισωπου) " the wolf, who become a Sheppard". You see, this myths created by my race to remind us what this is all about, they also celebrated it in ancient years with athlons/athletic activities, because our system was " Only the best and worthy can rule" and those athletic activities, remind them that. All leaders and governments around the globe is a waste of time, including those who seem to be fine, to agree with them or be supportive. They are all gathering and laughing at us, making plans for the next episode/show they will make to lead humanity into their level of existence. Even the poor Asand, we have plenty of material for his past meetings, before west turn against him. He made interesting dinners with interesting people (secret societies). What we fight for, is not actually Asand, but for the people of syria the true Assyrians.

Oh, i know all about it! Our propaganda TV talks about it all day, mate. By the way, there is new trend in russian mass media - hatred towards democracy. Too much freedom leads to crime and sodomy. Yeah, seriously. People should not be "too free", otherwise they would become homosexual, or murderers. I know it sounds stupid, but thats what TV tells us. Of course I exaggerate it a little, but you get a main thought.

In any government it all depends on who is in charge. An authoritarian government like Russia can work. Some dictators truly look out for their people and put the people's interest above theirs. I'll go as far as saying Putin attempted this he was trying to clean up the country and stop corruption. And having family there at first even I was pro putin. But then Russia returned to business as usual and in Russia that means corruption and manipulation. I also think this shows the power of the oligharhs they have taken over and will do anything to make sure they keep their assets including remove Putin. So now he's gone to creating fear to make changes and he needs an enemy because with out he he looses his control. Remember the plug Gary's don't need him he needs them. He can't fight the corruption he's apart of it now. He's sold billions in government assets to his backers and taken billions from others to give to them. Problem is he has nothing to offer them anymore they control everything.

So for him to stay now he needs to create an external threat to convince everyone he can protect them. Many dictators eventually fall on to this to maintain power. It's easier in the short run but long term consequences are severe especially for the country. He has already taken away parts of the Russian Constitution they were so close to creating a functional republic but greed and corruption won.

As far as I am concerned a dictatorship is the best form of government. It just requires the best people to make it work, and it attracts the worst people.

It could be it eliminates a lot of problems but I guess that old saying comes into play. Absolute power corrupts absolutely so even if they start out with a moral compass eventually they turn to the dark side.
