I guess sprites etc aren't 'flashy' like regular lightning and not sure if the description is all that accurate but a possibility, perhaps even some gamma ray type lingering plasma phenomena, something that is recent to science research.

That is a potential theory IMO as well as something perhaps man made though at that size there aren't any possibilities.

It would be interesting for more timescales and details, for example is that the same red glow in the distance of a recent photo, how long did they see it for, did it alter shape or position at all, did the lights move, were they static, did they resemble anything, for example did they look electrical, could it have been fireworks from a cruise ship, burning garbage, did it look like flames, are there any prospective oil / deep sea drilling exercises in the area? etc.

Chances are, if it was a natural phenomena, it wouldn't be static. If it was flames there would have been smoke and steam, which could have caused the glow, though individual hot spots glowing white or blue would have shown dynamism.

As it is, from the photos, it all looks a bit uniform, like reflection from a control panel. More details required.

ISS will be over that area in little over 3 hours but unfortunately it will be daytime but might be worth watching.

I am trying to figure out when the ISS will be over there when its nighttime.

Should be right over the area in 1 1/2hrs.
So approx 12/13 hours from now it should pass over again when dark.

When I've been watching the feed it cuts off before it gets to Japan.

HEY! I was thinking. Maybe someone can contact NASA about this and maybe have astronauts take long exposure photos of that area?

The lights in the photos look a bit like this.
I'm not suggesting a hoax, just pointing out the similarities and we do need to keep our minds open to any possibilities for now.

ok, so I played the vid and took a pic of it on my camera. I shrunk the image on windows paint program.



for comparison, I think it looks close.

Yeah I see your point but I truly doubt that he hoaxed this. It would mean that the pilot is in on it too.

BTW ISS is going over there very soon.

ISS is just about to go over the area. Looking a bit cloudy though.

Perhaps there was a disco in the cockpit, that looks like an 80's dancefloor.

We should ask Travolta, disco, pilot, likes aliens.

He should have video'd instead of just photo.

Also I doubt NASA takes public requests though if it was SOMETHING, chances are they already know about it, or caused it.

Anyway it is cloudy there so it wouldn't have mattered if the view was directly down.

Is there any fracking in that area?

The boreholes could have released methane which ignited.
