There you go Ukrainian news reporting it to translate.google.com...

"I Berezovsky Denis V., swear allegiance to the Crimean people and undertake to defend it, as required by statute," - said Rear Admiral, was appointed Acting Chief of the Navy decree President Alexander Turchinov.

Didn't the Russians already take a comm building or two? Didn't RT get hacked? Its gonna be a nasty propaganda war in order to keep the US and NATO at bay. I think vids and pics are by far the best way to get info from now on out. my 2 cents

My wife has relatives over in Simferopol and they all say that Crimea should go back to the Russians as it was always russian any way.

How the Revolutionists in Kiev can say that they are legitimate beats my mind. On the one side saying that they are now the real government and then not allowing Crimeans to decide for themselves is rather hypocritical.

Socalled leaders should have to lead the battles they are so willing to inflict on the middle classes.

Hey, I'm not really disagreeing with your views of Russia and Putin on this.

More the reason, more or less "equals", to NOT get involved without strong regional support!!

Just one of the lessons of Afghanistan and Iraq is look to the neighbors....

The rhetoric I was referring to was A.T.S./ Media rhetoric, not satellite rhetoric. In fact, seeing the silence coming from those neighbors, a little rhetoric support would be a good sign.

Sorry for not making the rhetoric point more clear.

The self-proclaimed authorities in Kiev have dismissed the head of the administration in the eastern city of Kharkov Mikhail Dobkin. Instead, Igor Baluta from the Batkivshchina (Fatherland) party has been appointed.

Thousands of pro-Russian demonstrators across in Kharkov have been protesting against the new government, with administration buildings being seized.

They only let people decide for themselves when they either know that the vote will be in their favour (Falklands), or they are in a position to rig the outcome of such a vote (Scotland).

I get what you're saying now.

The important thing is that I don't think any sane, average person wants war here. Nothing good comes if cooler heads don't prevail.

What is the end game here? That Ukraine concedes the Crimean to Russia? That the entire country concedes to join the Russian federation?

The only way out of this mess.
Ukraine gives up Crimea. Sucks but that's the new reality.
Russian troops move no further north than Armyans'k, the northern most city in the Crimea
if the Russians stay in Crimea only and don't invade eastern Ukraine then the West and NATO can hem and haw and huff and puff.
That is If the Ukrainians keep their cool and don't move troops into Crimea.

I don't think Ukraine well fare well against the Russians on their own without NATO help.
And to be honest don't see the NATO going to help them.
Of course if the Russians do invade all of the Ukraine and the West does nothing that may give other people adventurous ideas.
Then all bets are off.

All this has been planned meticulosly. Putin is'nt like Hague or Obama, a coulpe of desk jockeys.
The man was KGB for 16 years. He knows how the world of politics in the east really works.
Forbes has him as the worlds most powerful man..

He doesn't need a team of 500 pen pushers bought by industry behind him teling him which way to turn.

This guy is a professional, a mover and shaker.

We should be wary, very wary.

If this does turn into an actual war and the EU and the US just sits on the sidelines and do nothing then I'm going to be very hacked off.

DREAMER

UTTER DREAMER

Believe me the EU and US won't ever sit this one out, never in a million years...this is going all the way for sure, NATO will mobilize In The week and Russia will start pooing bricks and retreat

This isn't Syria or Georgia

This is exactly the type of event that would have sparked the Cold War to ignite in to World War 3 the EU never stood for hitler uniting by force fellow german speaking countries under the Nazis and the EU and US wont stand for putins mafia uniting a Russian speaking union by force

The NATO will steamroll the Russia military, Russia will then threaten the use of WMDs when the allies are writhing a few miles of Moscow

I have a very strong feeling that both sides want this fight, or at least a quick skirmish with each other... Nukes will be threatened when Russia realise it's all mouth and severely outclassed outmatched and outnumbered

Lol, the US military can't even handle rag tag Muslim militants in Afghanistan. What makes you think they can handle a full blown war with Russia?

Seems you don't understand the difference between a conventional war with modern armies and unconventional wars with people won't fight and who hide as civilians in the day and plant bombs at night

NATO is heard up for conventional warfare and Russia will not be able to sustain such firepower bearing down on them, it won't even be close to fair

The west are mocking Russia right now, they have acted like morons and show the world just how desperate they're... it's checkmate

That's never going to happen

The allies never let Nazi Germany and hitler get away with it and they certainly won't let Russia get away with it

It game on, everybody knows it...

Well, we let the Germans take the Rhineland, then Austria, then the Czech's and didn't act until they took Poland...

That's the danger here, I think - appeasement and being seen as week. We lost a lot of face of Georgia and now Russia think they can do the same with the Ukraine. Rather hypocritical seeing as they are often the loudest to complain about countries "internal affairs" when the West tries to do anything....
