Never thought I'd do it, but I dont see a choice here...

Homer, thank you. You have my admiration. This may end up being the most peaceful, yet vocal protest about how our government no longer cares about 'we the people'. We've tried the mass sit-ins. That did not work like we would have liked. However this simple and unobtrusive statement can be far reaching. Until they understand that we are not pawns in a game, but rather are human beings, the flag should be flown upside down. We as American citizens are under threat from domestic sources, namely, our elected officials.

I work with the public. They've gone from trying to state humorously that Obama is a bad guy to stating that the whole government is comprised of bad people. Things have gotten so bad, the general star struck public has noticed.

I'm one of those despised secular humanists. I have bumper stickers on my car that translate to "Burn This Car". So, I understand the need to make a statement. The upside down flag doesn't mean a lot to me, as I see an upside down planet. However, I'm glad all the twangy country star wannabees around me who openly carry their guns are getting fired up. If I had a flag, I'd flip it. Solidarity!

in my country a flag is just a flag it has no symbolic meaning other than the name of country

you see, you cant go around assuming the rest of the world thinks like you do

and to answer your qeustion of course i care about my country! but i dont care about my countrys flag. haha. it is just some colors and a shape. on a piece of cloth.

So tell us please what country are you from. Serious question that deserves an answer since you brought it up.

You see our flag is a very powerful symbol of freedom and liberty that was bought with blood. Our flag has the history of that fight. I mean listen to the national anthem, it explains it pretty clearly. Our flag holds deep meaning for us. Most of us are respectful of our flag. For us veterans we carry it into battle, it represents what we stand for.

If anyone has the right to use it as a symbol of distress it should be a veteran.

I agree this is something only Americans will understand.

This thread is a joke...what exactly is it supposed to mean? Who freaking cares if someone turns their flag upside down...even if this person was of some importance, which they are not, I would still call it out as ridiculous dramatics for the sake of wanting attention.

Next thing we know...the tri-corner hats are going to come out and people are going to pretend to think they know what this country was founded on. It's all very drama queenish...and I'm sorry...but it's just silly and should be called out as being silly.

but the powerful symbol you speak of is your flag, and your flag alone.
i do not share the same feeling towards my own flag ,and not many people do.

for many people a flag is as powerful or important as the spelling of ones country.

14 or so of the founding fathers were freemasons, and relied heavily on the use of "symbol worship" as you so eloquently put it. I find it interesting that you minimize the usage and power of symbols prevalent in our Countries history.

of course I do however....ill excersise my right to vote and hopefully enough of us conservative minded people will get some of these hacks out of office and try and reclaim what is in fact our country. As far as this shut down is concerned I find it pretty telling that they (The Democratic Leadership) will hold back military pay, social security pay, etc.... but still give illegals benefits....pay thier special interest groups, allow an imigrant march to take place on the very day they shut down our nations monuments. This President has one goal.....To kill america period from with-in......

Well voting is all we really have isnt it. WE try and research our candidates best we can but in the long run its trust isnt it? Well I didnt vote for this current administration and i pray its not to late to turn things around........ As far as trolling ive been passionate about my country for 48 years so no im not trolling im here living it how bout you?
