I feel bad for the misunderstanding that occurred, most comments were based upon the "understanding" that you were an American citizen, living in the United States, and to say such things will provoke tempers. While you are not a citizen of the US, surely you can understand "being upset" and voicing your opinion while being so? I hope this doesn't leave you with an impression that we are always like that.

and i apologize for some things i said here

As will many of us now that they understand that you are from another country that didn't fully comprehend how CLOSELY we identify with OUR flag as a symbol of unity.

There are many in the United States that look at hanging our flag upside down as "disrespectful". There are other's that can agree with the position of the OP, that as a country, we are in "distress".

It's sad to say that we are in troubled times. Our government is shutdown right now. Already some-odd 16 trillion in debt, they wish to raise the level even higher. If anything, THAT should boggle your mind.

that was regarding everyone just giving out stars to all the posts except deliberately mine and others. that seemed to change as my point i was trying to make became clearer.

In regards to the stars, who cares? I certainly don't care how many stars I have. As to this website being very US heavy, well that might be due to the fact that it is a US website.

If it was a French based website one would expect many French users.

Look, I don't post often, but just as some advice to keep you out of hot water, think about what you write before you click post. Quick-fire snappy argumentative comments tend to not do well here. For every 100 posts I read I might post on 1 of them. Take some time, lurk a bit, and try to go with the flow.

Good luck on ATS.

exactly!!
but you see alot of your peers here are accusing me of alot of things and its getting to be quite hostile in here, when i have yet to say anything bad about you or your country.

I agree with this, for the most part, as well.

You are criticizing flag worship.

And you don't understand the significance of the inverted flag as a distress signal, as well as a bit of a public shocker for those who engage in flag worship.

I am kinda shocked to see that so many feel this way about America.

I wanted to ask you... It has been a lifelong dream of mine to live in USA at some point in my life. So are you basically saying this is a bad idea?

Please, i would love to hear from a real american!! and im really serious about migrating in the future!

War is when your government tells you who the enemy is.

Revolution is when you figure it out for yourself.

Combatmaster, the answer to your question lies in your current situation. You may well be in a country that is worse off than the US, but that doesn't mean your situation will improve once you get here. What are your job skills, keeping in mind that our REAL unemployment rate is probably over 25% when you count people who have given up looking for work and who have gone on disability, are homeless, etc. There are people here on nearly every street corner with signs begging for money. The combination of idiot politicians and a not-terribly-educated populace for the most part (thanks Fox News, religion and No Child Left Behind) means that often, depending on how you talk, how you dress and how 'different' you are, you not only won't be welcomed, you'll be scorned for no reason, possibly. If you're a Muslim, you'll be at risk of bodily harm.

In other words, Americans tend to find Irish and Brit accents charming, ditto Aussie accents, but everyone else may be seen as being a bit too different. All bets are off if you take a job here that an American might want. The US is highly religious and in my opinion, not terribly sane just for that reason. They worship sports and cars and for the most part don't want to discuss deeper topics, although obviously there are outliers.

If you have money and can move anywhere, I would suggest other countries; certainly the vaunted 'free country' is no more. I'm surprised they haven't put barbed wire fence around the entire country already, with the barbs facing inwards to keep us from leaving. Try Canada if you can tolerate the weather; it's like America used to be, when it was not a sick parody of itself.

Actually bro...

I am a brit. And i see where you are coming from. I am not muslim.

It sucks to hear that its not the vaunted US it used to be. I really didnt want to hear that!

There is no other country that could replace America. I would have to find another planet.

I hear so, so much about how there aren't any jobs. Meanwhile, we have places closing down because there aren't enough people to work. While its not glamorous work, an easy example for me is the convenience store around the corner from me. Owner finally got tired of working all day every day, so he sold the store to someone who is likely going to put in another business that won't be staffed.

The Cline Shale will go on for awhile. This boom is here to stay....a little longer.

There's work. You just gotta leave the coast to find it. LOL

Yep. Every flag in this nation should be flying upside down. And every member of Congress should be summarily dismissed from service. End of discussion.

Every member of congress should be hung upside down
- but since that's a bit impractical, the symbolism of the flag is an awesome show of our disgust.

Pretty sure my WWII vet grandfather - who treated the flag with reverence - would even agree this time!

but i dont understand why you expect ppl from other side of world to think its special that some american hangs his flag upside down.

You don't have to. However if, like any language, you wish to understand the intent of the message it requires understanding what the language/symbol means to the person who used it and the level of special intent behind doing so. You don't have to make said effort... but that's your loss.

If I say "girmbledonk"... it doesn't have to mean anything to you. However it means something very important to me. If you *choose* to want to understand what I just wrote and why it means something when I display the symbol "girmbledonk"... then the "special nature of the intent" when I display the symbol "girmbledonk" to you for a third time... begins to matter.

but it seems to not go through

Oh it's getting through loud. Everyone can see you quite clearly.

let's just say the cops show up at your door, say they wanna make an arrest because they think you're disrespecting the flag by hanging it upside down.

ok, you let them know it's not disrespecting, but they insist they need to take you in.

you resist arrest, get beat the faq down, maybe get a few bullets on your chest for resisting.

ok, maybe you don't resist, and you decide to cooperate and get taken in, because you're a law abiding citizen and you haven't done anything wrong.

now you're probably thinking, "there's no way i'm going to let them take me in". so you resist and get beat the faq down, risking minor fractures, broken bones, etc etc

ok, you don't resist, you cooperate and get taken in, get put in a cell while waiting to get your phone call, etc etc etc.

in the end, who wins?

GG USA

Govt shutdown, workers and reservists furloughed, benefits being held and possibly with held, no compromise from either party, I did the only thing I had in my power to do, and hope others see and act

NEVER thought I'd ever see the day I'd do this, but what choice do we have?
My flag will stay this way til the danger has passed

You cower in the corner you say nothing.( When your right to free speech is taken away)

You cower in the corner you say nothing. ( When your right to free assembly is taken away)

You cower in the corner you say nothing. ( When the right to grow your own food is taken away)

You cower in the corner you say nothing. (when your right to defend yourself in taken away)

You cower in the corner you say nothing. ( When your children are taken from you)

You cower in the corner you say nothing. ( When your neighbour is arrested for putting his flag upside down in protest)

You cower in the corner you scream your lungs out , when they come to get you.

But because you said nothing and let it all slowing evolve around you , when you woke up and they came for you there was no one left.

Pinkorchid is an aussie, so she/he is not expected to know this. But you are from NY.....hanging your flag upside down is free speech. Burning your flag is free speech (although if you burn where ordinance forbids it you will be ticketed/arrested depending). This is a constitutional matter. Even in the dumbed down public education system version of "Government" class, the flag burning issue was covered as a free speech issue decided in front of SCOTUS.

ETA: the only way anyone would be arrested for hanging the flag upside down is if their city had strict ordinances and they failed to appear for the ticket they wold recieve.

If one were a member of an HHA, you might be fined by them. But you would deserve that for living under phoney HHA laws like a sucker. LOL

seems like to me they've been all taken away already.

then you're gonna say, "no they haven't, they're written in black and white".

ok, go out and say what you think out loud

ok, go out and get a large group of friends (i'm not talking about 5-10)

ok, try to grow your own crops

ok, try to open carry after the government shutdown took place

ok, try to ask, not interfere, the police why your neighbor is being arrested

i'm guessing most of these actions will probably get you beat the faq down. well, maybe not beat the faq down, but you get the idea.

honestly there's no simple solution to this. Sure hanging your flag upside down will show how you feel, but that's as far as it goes. I'm not saying you shouldn't, but it won't do much in the long run.

if you ask me, every town, city, village should establish its own militia to stand up against their rights, their property and their freedom. People should come together with a clear goal in mind, and not let get pushed around in fear. It won't be easy, but it has to be done.

people will get arrested, people will get beat the faq down, people might even lose lives, but i don't see any other solution to this. That's my two cents anyways, god bless you all

There is a reason Bush 2 bought ranches for both his girls in south America... if we were smart we.d all be crossing the borders while we were still free to do so... that's how bad it is and getting worse.
