Jesus was never a teacher of practical philosophy and anyone that would say such a thing is so ignorant that they should find some profession other than official Jesus debunker.

Are
You
SERIOUS?

His was the ultimate teacher of "practical philosophy."

Treat others the way you want to be treated.

Good Gawd I miss the old emoticons!!!

You just can't be serious?!
Do you even know when Alexander the great lived, who and where are records about him? Not simple records after the fact, but made at the time of his conquests. From Egyptian hieroglyphs to Babylonian writings about Alexander the great - all documented.
Did you miss history classes?

Sorry dude, but I have history on my side. Do your homework and prove me wrong.

methinks . . . some biases don't just pour out of every pore . . .

they spew out of every pore in a fierce stream.

. . . no doubt as a hallmark demonstration, evidence, stark declaration of calm wisdom and erudition.

. . . adding nothing of substance to any discussions . . .

This thread has helped me understand how dreadfully fallen our "educational" system has crashed.

Instead of DENYING IGNORANCE

the motto of so many seems to be

FLAUNT IT AND FLAUNT IGNORANCE OUTRAGEOUSLY.

I pity The thought Of your kind, lost, confused, and "powerless", and naive. I pity your society and its rules that must be followed to make the rich richer and the poor poorer, and i pity your lost ambitions and your lost hope, you for billions of man power cannot move a man to mars and beyond. I pity your reasoning that there is no way to feed your peoples of billions while creators have made hydro food of 100 sqr acres in only a 1 sqr acre land... wake up, smell the fumes of the time not spent, and arise to this pitiful system and regain your position to advance your life. remember They will try to down us by means of bullets

What?

Welcome to ATS, but....
WHAT?

What is your society, and its rule that must be followed???

Nice poetical intro...but, can you make a stand here? Toss us a bone to know who you are??

Calling Abraham, Moses and/or Jesus mythical

is the opposite of DENYING IGNORANCE.

Thankfully, God will show Himself mighty in this era in His ways and His time.

And folks will have another chance to choose that day, whom they will serve.

Many seem to sound quite determined to serve a very dark, ruthless, mean, harsh, deadly, spiteful, vengeful lord pretender . . . and they seem to think

THAT DOING SO

is ENLIGHTENED and freedom enhancing.

Certainly this is the era when white is called black; up called down and good called evil as never before.

I've shared this before, but feel the need to do so again:

The first words out of my 4-year-old daughter's mouth when able to talk after heart surgery was: "Mommy, Jesus came and held my hand".

No one will ever convince me that Jesus does not exist.

ABSOLUTELY INDEED.

Have you read Colton Burpo's story in

HEAVEN IS FOR REAL?

100's if not thousands of Muslims are experiencing dreams, visions and visitations of Yeshua as well . . . whole extended families and even whole tribes . . . on the same night. Then they have to find a Bible at great risk to find out who this Jesus/Yeshua is that they've discovered is the TRUE GOD WORTHY OF WORSHIP and none other.

However, those who seek to have nothing to do with Him can end up with their determined wish, too.

Oh my word.

*facepalm*

Really? BO, I know you couldn't care less what I think about you and your character and your 'professional behavior', but....
WHAT???

THEY ARE MYTHS. Mythical. Just like Zeus, Aphrodite, Venus, Odin, Cupid, Apollo, ALL OF THEM.

IT IS MYTHOLOGY.

What do Abraham, Moses and/or Jesus have to do with God? Whether or not they really existed or if they are mythical characters, allegories or a combination of figures of reality and myth, it does't effect the reality of a "God(s)".

No, that is not the case -- typically accepted dating (by scholars who know what they're talking about, not by kooks,) is that all of the books of the New Testament were written in a timeframe that is reasonable to assume Jesus' contemporaries (ie: Apostles) lived in. Whether the Apostles wrote them all is debatable, but claiming that they weren't written until a hundred years after the fact is not.

I would again point people to Jesus and the Eyewitnesses by Bauckham, which uses historical evidence and statistical data to pretty much prove that whoever wrote those texts was in Palestine at the time they occurred, and likely were eyewitnesses to the events in question.

ABSOLUTELY INDEED.

Abundant sound scholarship is emphatically on the side of that perspective.

IGNORANCE and demonized wishful thinking can pontificate all manner of off the wall theories. That doesn't make them a mircogram's worth of true.

It's a slightly interesting contention. I just don't think it's factually true.

The New Testament record as well as other records are an incredible pile of evidence.

Unmitigated nonsense.

Evidently you have not studied the topic very significantly.

Both Lee Strobel and Josh McDowell as well as others cited on this thread document the contrary extensively.

Yes, I read the Strobel assault. I think Strobel's work stands on its own merits. I don't think he's a bad guy at all. But even if he were a scoundrel, his works would STILL STAND on their own merits.

OH FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE!!!
Are you serious????

PROVE a negative?
Those are STORIES. Those people did NOT actually exist....Noah did NOT build a boat to hold all animals for a world-wide flood....Jonah did NOT live for 3 days in the belly of a whale (big fish. Whichever). Eve did NOT "cause the downfall of mankind".

AND THERE ARE NO
TALKING SNAKES.

Wow.
Just. ....
....

WOW.

Wow. I'd "LOL" at you folks....but, more pertinently, I want to know WHAT IT IS YOU ARE SO AFRAID OF???

If this bunch of myths and stories is finally, and duly, relegated to 'ancient mythology' and so forth....
So What?

WHAT ARE YOU AFRAID OF????

None of you want to tell me, I get that.

It remains my honest question all the same. ALL of you.... WHAT are you afraid of???

How do we know the history we research and read is 100% accurate? You can prove all day long that Jesus Christ existed or he didn't exist. It doesn't matter because you cannot prove either way for 100% accurate proof either way. So therefore to do so is redundant.

The New Testament record as well as other records are an incredible pile of evidence.

Evidence of what? A virgin birth? Water turning to wine? That we are saved by the innocent blood of a teacher? That the dead are resurrected in their bodies, and when they come back, they're hungry and still bear their wounds?

A lot of novels are set in realistic setting and their plots entail real people, places and events. But the stories, never the less, are fiction.

Example

Of course you are historically accurate.

You are logically accurate.

You are textually accurate.

Your scholarship is accurate.

However, accurate facts are not of interest to a particular perspective.

Yeshua noted that they hated Him and would hate us. No surprise there.

The truth will out.

Sadly . . . possibly too late for those who

WOULD NOT HAVE ANY OF IT because of their willfulness, willful rebellions, arrogance, hedonism etc.

Pity. Seems that some of the most outspoken Christians don't know the difference or correlations between philosophy, theology, metaphysics, mythology, logic, ethic, and so forth.

I gather you still haven't read even 3-4 chapters of

THE CASE FOR THE REAL CHRIST.

It's a very well done work and can stand on it's own merits regardless of Strobel's merits or lack of merits as a person.

However, I recognize the KILL THE MESSENGER syndrome among you and cohorts. It's a standard feature hereon.
