Oh, I forgot to address this gem...

The best part of the OPT OUT program for young people is they get to pay a fine and they get to NOT have health insurance for it!

Yeah, Generation Opportunity is really looking out for the best interest of young people!

The OPT OUT program is not created by this group, it was created by the PPACA! You just have to pay a fine and more taxes which again is driven by the PPACA.

Soros worries me way more than the Koch organization and we all know where of center he resides.

Generation Opportunity, New Koch-Funded Front, Says Youth Are Better Off Uninsured -

For a new Koch-funded front group for young people, money for medical bills apparently grows on trees.

Generation Opportunity, a nonprofit financed with $5.04 million from a fund controlled by the Koch brothers’ lobbying team, just launched a new television advertisement to kick off an anti-Obamacare campaign.

Their message: You don’t have to sign up for Obamacare. “What we’re trying to communicate is, ‘No, you’re actually not required to buy health insurance,’” Generation Opportunity President Evan Feinberg told Yahoo News in an interview about the campaign. “You might have to pay a fine, but that’s going to be cheaper for you and better for you.” - See more at: www.thenation.com...

Funny how the tea party are called terrorist but the occupy movement is not.
I recall all kinds of nasty thing the occupy folks were reported doing. Guess that don't matter.

Let's see, dems dont want me drinking a 16 oz pepsi, that's bad for me they say..
No smoking cigarettes either, that's bad for me... Unless it's marijuana, thats ok..
They tell me I can't choose whats best for my body or my life style.
But a woman can have an abortion because it's her body and her choice.. Huh?
Kinda hypocritical.

Republicans want religion taught in schools, ok... But only their religion...
They don't want gays ruining the sanctity of marriage... like that wasn't already ruined by straight people.

The point is that they are all idiots, but terrorists they are not..

Socially they are liberals and financially they are conservatives. They believe in small government, less taxes, more liberty. A mixture of democrat and republican to some extent.

Do Republican power brokers also contribute to the left?? This is from your linked article.

Wichita-based Koch Industries and its employees formed the largest single oil and gas donor to members of the panel, ahead of giants like Exxon Mobil, contributing $279,500 to 22 of the committee's 31 Republicans, and $32,000 to five Democrats.

Looks like they give to both sides.

Unethical is selling a law as one thing and asking people not to read it before it is passed and then denying it is not a tax package or a way to levy fines. That single mom with 3 kids who scrapes by on 40k a year who cannot afford insurance will have to pay 2.5% of her salary in 2016 for this tax package. Is that fair to your or her children. They are slashing Medicare and Medicaid. Is that ethical also?

They are forcing people to buy private insurance from the state exchanges and the employer to contribute his share during this prolonged recession. It has nothing to do with nationalised healthcare as I orginally thought last year.

Why didn't they just seperate SS from medicare and medicaid and make people pay an additional tax to receive medicare and medicaid before they retire? Or expand SS contributions to allow people to receive medicare and medicaid before they retire? Heck its still a pyramid scheme but at least it would be nationalised healthcare like all countries have.

The whole situation is complicated because both government and private insurance companies want a big share of the pie me thinks.

We have three branches of government. They are designed to stop one branch from shoving through a law. It's called checks and balances.
The system is doing exactly what it was designed to do..

Thing is, it's not even a full government shutdown. It's only a partial shutdown, meaning that there are government services that are still functioning (including the Obamacare that was the entire point of the shutdown in the first place).

I wouldn't consider the people behind the shutdown terrorists, just idiots. Lets not misuse the word terrorist here. It's bad enough people do that with the terms anti-American/communist/marxist/socialist/racist/etc. (especially on this site).

I am confused as hell. At first TP wanted to defund ACA, then they settled for a 1 yr postponement, now it is part of essential services during the government shutdown? What the hell?

The employer has always had to supply and pay for healthcare. When they were lower, you could entice employees and even pay the full premiums. This was in the late 90's early 2000. In the last 6 years I have watched (I am in the industry as a consultant) the premiums soar as well as the cost passed along to the employee skyrocket. The whole point of the PPACA was not socialized medicine but to give a less expensive alternative. That is how it was sold. They did not tell you that if you did not have coverage you will be fined. They did not tell employers they could be fined. They did not tell people there would be an increase to Medicare Taxes, starting first with single earn 125k/married 200k. So if you are making it you have to pay more to fund others???

Also, employers are making employees Part Timers to not be held in this act so it is affecting small business and the little guy big time. This is to avoid fines. People have less hours means less pay. FSA amounts were reduced. List goes on an on. What needed to happen is regulation and it did not. Very sad...

But the Republicans can shut down the government because they DISAGREE with the Democrats? And yes, the Republicans ARE acting like terrorists. They literally are holding the government hostage. This is plain for all to see. The Republicans keep lying about what is going on. The Republicans still won't bring the House to a vote. Yet everything is the Democrats fault. THEY didn't shut down the government.

Under the federal government, employers were never required to offer medical insurance coverage. Some states did. Employers offered medical insurance packages as hiring incentives.

Under ACA, the federal government has now a health care employee mandate for certain kinds of employers and certain kinds of employees. In states that required employers to offer health care, it was regular practice to keep employee hours below the required threshold, to avoid insurance payments. The fact that employers are looking to do this under the ACA requirements is neither new or surprising.

The saddest thing to witness in this thread is the amount of individuals biting so deeply into the whole two-party loyalty narrative. Obama sucks, Bush sucked, Democrats suck and Republicans suck. Many of you seem to have a similar problem, your loyalties to completely corroded political "movements" (think bowel movement) are the real issue in this country. Stop associating yourselves with the political drama clubs and more with your pure principles and opinions.

The greatest crime committed by Congress (coupled with the MSM) is the divisive nature imposed on the public. Stop embracing the convenience of summing your positions up behind political titles and start building bridges already. This seemingly eternal, back-and-forth Dem vs Rep volley is absolute madness...

Many will see it that way unfortunately.

But only in the minds of the criminally insane.

The GOP are terrorists extortionist and anarchists because they are making it impossible to govern.

What if the Dems when they had a majority also extorted that we have single payer or they will shut down the government?

The Democrats NEVER shut down the government or even threatened to do it.

It is the insane GOP tea party that are out of their minds, immoral, unethical, abusing power and ALL should be stripped of their positions of power.

They are the Taliban of the West

A few years ago in indiana the dems left the state, they headed for Illinois.
They shut everything down throwing a tantrum. Does that count?

And I do believe the the dems were responsible for the Jim Crow laws. So let's put immoral and unethical and abuse of power into perspective shall we.

I am sorry but I feel I have to point this out. The republicans and conservatives have done far worse the past 10 years. Do you remember when Sarah Palin supporters put all these threatening quasi gun freak posters up at her rallies, saying things like "we came unarmed THIS TIME"?? I am all for freedom of speech but if you didn't take their position on things it was a little threatening to say the least. The past couple decades, especially the past decade, politics have gotten vicious and mean spirited. and neither side has a monopoly on it. I do agree that the level of polarization we are seeing is ominous and disturbing, but its not just people who don't like republicans doing it. Please keep that in mind.

Partisan Hacks not interested in engaging those of us pointing out that you're all being played? I know I'm not the only one saying it. A lot of people are in this very thread.

We are totally screwed. This thread is a snapshot of political reality. These people will skip directly over any sensible post and scramble as fast as they can to stab their perceived "opponent" aka fellow American in the throat, figuratively of course, rather than face reality.

Let's be clear...it is the Republicans trying to get their agenda passed, not the Democrats.

Baloney. Everyone in DC has an agenda they are trying to get passed, trying to pursue. That's sort of why they are there - to get a governmental agenda passed.

One need look no further than the fact that Reid and Co, and Obama himself, threatened to veto a bill that would have funded the government, but delayed Obamacare for a year. Just a year. If they had no agenda of their own, and funding the government was so paramount, they would have jumped at that chance to fund the government. But NO - it clashed with the agenda they are running.

Gimme a freakin' break. There ain't no angels in DC - just devils driven by differing agendas. Yes, even you precious democrats are pushing an agenda, and allowing the government to be defunded to pursue it.
