I wish I could give you more stars just to draw attention to this significant post. I did mention on the first page that the 9 cast members of TNG are modeled to mimic the Godly pantheon of old.

What I find interesting about recent sci-fi movies such as Avatar and Prometheus...or anything really...they all seem to be rip-offs of themes and plots explored in Star Trek. (Well, with a body of over 700 forty-five minute episodes and 12 films, you're bound to cover a lot of ground.) Granted, there are plenty of Trek stories that borrow from even earlier sci-fi...

I still find it odd that a lot of modern, feature-length sci-fi is just regurgitating Trek's canon. Are these 'messages' and subtexts now available for everyone instead of just Trekkies? Seems so..

That may be true. But as I said in my OP regarding the seemingly predictive technologies, if they weren't directly inspired or conceived in Trek, they were at least made popular in Trek.

I have much respect for Arthur C Clarke...but this time Gene found a much, much wider audience to show off the padds etc.

You arguing this point more than once seems to do little for this thread, but thanks for giving Clarke his due credit

How do you mean? I'm seeing all this "Trek conspiracy" stuff for the first time, but it hasn't ruined the show for me. That's the genius of what Roddenberry was going for.

If you didn't like the message, or the actions/ behaviors of his characters...you didn't have to take it seriously because they were androids and spacemen and pointed-eared, green-blooded Vulcans etc.

You can disagree with the utopian, socialist Federation and still enjoy the fictionalized world he created.

In what way has this thread changed your mind about Star Trek? I'm curious. Thanks in advance for answering.

Brilliant my friend!

I have never been a 'Trekkie(sp?)', never seen more than 2 of the movies (don't slap me just yet, please!), and do not know much about Mr. Roddenberry. It must have truly been one of the handful of shows that make a cultural impact around the globe.

However, like most people have seen or heard of the incredible similarities between the 'Treknology' of the Series' day and the modern day technology we find ourselves immersed into each and every day. It is mind-blowing how similar many of the correlative technologies have proven to be.

In-fact & In my opinion, the similarities, revealed by comparing 'Treknology' with today's cutting edge technology, nearly cross a point of kinship that can no longer be considered a simple coincident or the visionary products of genius futurist.

After seeing the incredible likeness Roddenberry's sci-fi tech and our current technology, and whether it's true or not, it would be very easy to consider the possibility that he had access to something or someone that is being kept secret from the general population.

Many Star Trek's devices are even very similar in design. Accurately predicting the designs would seemingly be a very hard thing to do.

Maybe he confused the designs of the devices, accidentally making one device look as another should have.

That may be confusing, so here are a couple picture and a brief description of what I mean:

In this image we see a Star Trek communicator compared to one of today's cell phones;

Next, in the image below, we see a comparison between a Star Trek device known as a 'Tricorder' and a modern tool known as a 'LOCAD' device (I'm not certain that's the correct names, I pulled them from the Opening Post) .

It is easy to see the similarities when comparing these devices individually. However, that changes a bit when you look at all 4 images at the same time.

You can see how the Star Trek Communicator closely resembles today's LOCAD device. Next, have a look @ the 'Tricorder' and compare it to the modern cell phone image. The tricorder looks very much lake an original 'Motorola Razr'.

Maybe you guys don't think so, but I really think the Star Trek Communicator looks much more like the LOCAD device and the Tricorder is also a much closer match to a modern cellular phone -

That's what I mean when I say maybe the designs were accidentally switched.

Yep, that's what the group tried to tell him too; that those channeled 9 inspired him to create the first series in 1966. It seems this mystery can unravel in many directions.

I can't help but wonder just where Gene was getting his inside information from about future technologies and that's one of the points I raised in my post.

But I think it's more likely that fans of the show made modern technology with an obvious homage to Trek...hence, that's why the Motorola looks similar to the communicator etc.

Also, regarding the 2 examples you've chosen...the 'communicator' is the 1966 communicator. And the 'tricorder' is the modern Trek era tricorder that would have been used in the latter series (the mid-1980's.) The 1966 tricorder is bigger, bulkier, and not quite as sleek, but still has a similar overall design.

Without knowing much about the man, or who he 'ran' with, I couldn't really say with any confidence where he may have been finding his info.

However...
based on what I do know I will venture a guess.

I do not know whether he had any sleep issues, but I think he probably did. If it's true that he claimed to be abducted and studied by aliens during his childhood, then I think this fact points to a potential explanation for his uncanny ability to closely match his imagined items with incredibly similar modern tools...

I believe it is quite probable that Mr. Roddenberry was afflicted with Sleep Paralysis episodes. I think there is a lot of potential that those SP episodes were also accompanied by Out-of-Body Experiences. He may have been unaware that his sleep experiences were anything beyond what the average person experiences when they sleep. If he did realize the experiences are not common, then he may have kept it secret for a variety of reasons.

The reason I believe this is a strong possibility is because there was someone else who had an uncanny, sometimes frightening, ability to identify and diagnose illness and produce previously unknown remedies to the identified illnesses.

Some of the illnesses had gone undetected by Dr.s and those that were detected had no known treatment regimen. This is what's amazing about the incredibly accurate diagnoses and outstandingly effective treatment prescription.

This person was also renowned for predicting future events with stunning accuracy.

'The Sleeping Prophet' did all this during what I believe were incredibly intense and focused Out-of-Body Experiences.

To this day, Edgar Cayce remains one of the most heralded psychics of all time.

OBE's are not entirely rare. Actually, everyone has Sleep Paralysis each and every sleep cycle. Most of us will dream while sleeping and we all have the potential to experience involuntary OBE's. Some of us may only experience an OBE once or twice in our lifetime and some will never be blessed with the experience.

It is rare to have waking SP and conscious OBE - not lucid dreaming or conscious dreaming. Some of us will be able to induce OBE's and train ourselves to have them quite often. Personally, I have been gifted the ability to have OBE's and I love every second of them.

I do believe he was probably experiencing OBE's, but unlike any that you or I will every have. I think his OBE's were extremely intense and he was able to deliver the extreme focus required to maintain such powerful episodes.

It's not just the intensity that, in my opinion, differs from an average person's OBE...

I think it is probable that Roddenberry, like Cayce, was somehow accessing the Akashic Hall of Records .

The Akashic Hall of Records are a complete compendium of absolutely all existing knowledge for the past, present, and future. The information is thought to be encoded in a non-physical plane of existence, which we all have the potential to access.

I have been to the Akashic, but I have never had full access to the records. I am, for some unknown reason to me, blocked from accessing the Akashic Hall. My goal is to one day access the AHoR, hopefully before I die! Cayce and potentially Roddenberry too, were somehow accessing the records often and had the ability to remember the knowledge they discovered there.

If I had to give my best guess, above is how I would explain it.

Edgar Cayce? Sleep paralysis? OOBEs? Now you're speaking my language, friend! I've been through that thrill-ride many times.

By the way, Gene didn't outright claim to be an abductee. Even in his correspondence with that shady group, he said he'd never seen anything unexplainable or otherworldly. He is quoted for saying that he never saw a UFO but thinks they exist.

The childhood diary--we don't know what's really in that. His son does, and made the comic strip about the "true, untold stories of alien abductions"...whatever that means.

You're right though. For some reason a lot of artists and creative people are plagued with sleep disorders (check my username.)

I saw your username before I posted, but the connection between my posted suggestions and your screen-name didn't dawn on me until I posted the reply and saw your name listed at the top of the post.

Although, like you mentioned, it seems he didn't claim to have some of the experiences I assumed he had, I still feel there is a strong chance he could have been accessing the Hall of Records - that is, if all the comparisons are not completely coincidental.

Maybe he was a truely incredible visionary who also had a some luck with his device designs and descriptions. It's hard for me to believe he was able to so accurately depict the devices as they would be built decades later.

Who knows? Anything is possible, but I like the more exciting possibilities!

EDITED:

I think it's more likely that fans of the show made modern technology with an obvious homage to Trek...hence, that's why the Motorola looks similar to the communicator etc.

You could be right about that, but I have my doubts. In developing new devices it is generally form that follows functions. I think it would be designed to accomodate the functions of the device and that could keep the mysterious correlation to the Trek devices intact.

On the flip side of 'form meeting function', Roddenberry's designs may be similar to modern devices because their functions are similar.

Even if this is the case, I find it hard to buy the incredible resemblence. They are not only similar in size and shape, they are more than that. They seem to belong to the same lineage, just as cars are updated, but they remain the same general style. Take the Ford Mustang for example. It has been updated and modernized over the years, but many of the same body ques remain. The same can be said for many cars, Porsche is another prime example of this.

Could very well have been with my cheesy intro paragraph. I'll try to work on those just in case one of my threads gets on the homepage again. I'll try to be more aware of how my threads are (mis)presented in the titles and sample paragraphs.

Glad you found something of interest after all

It's really quite strange how much sciencefiction prophesise the future

science.discovery.com...

Now even NASA is speculating that warp drive FTL travel may be possible with taking a closer look at Alcuberiers warp drive etc...

www.nasa.gov...

Some science is pointing to the possibility of teleport transport with some single particles being teleported allready.

I know it's a strech but I sometimes wonder if the quantum state of reality in this universe is somehow altered by the combined imagination of the human race... ideas imprinted into our imagination and subconscious through stories and entertainment slowly imprinted onto reality by the sheer weight of billions of subconscious minds.
Would explain a lot of unexplained phenomena and coincidences...

We think therefore it is!
I'm not saying this is what I beleive just an interesting thought..

Think about it, makes complete sense.

I'm not sure if I am muddling other things up with the OPoC, but wasn't Uri Geller thrown in with the mix at some point too?

Not that that is even remotely relevant...at least not that I am aware of

I agree...that it is an interesting thought.

There is certainly a chain involved, someone who imagines a concept, someone who creates a sketch, then a prototype...etc, etc. There are few who are able to take an idea all the way from concept the completions, a great number of different skills are required in between. It is perhaps only apparent as a phenomena and coincidence because we are seldom privy to the blood, sweat and tears. But, the magic (phenomena and coincidence), would be that, in terms of technology, it is many strands coming together, seemingly unrelated until that point whereby, what the originator visualised becomes possible, even though that was never what any of the strands had intended to make reality.

Either way, I like how you think
