Looks like they have some...stuff.

Look at the range of each of those, and then compare that to the distance between NK and even Hawaii...

Another reason to believe they might be crazy enough to do a "live test" with their new toys:

In a thread a while back someone thought it was very silly to consider a China/Pakistan/Iran/North Korea (and possibly Russia) versus the rest of the world a threat. I cannot understand how it couldn't be viewed as a real threat! I think we have Russia with us on this one -- China, I am still watching to make the call -- but -- you are so right about the tech sharing/selling/buying. Even just NK sharing tech with Iran and Pakistan becomes a serious problem. I do not like this situation one little bit. And, the whole economic melt down of the Western world is just a crazy complicating factor that makes us almost as unstable and unpredictable as NK.

Even if they did, one missile poses almost zero threat, and would be akin to Lil' Kim sticking his head in a blender....

To another:

This is my crazy-talk for the day: how do we know China and/or Russia aren't part of it?

Where's the angle? For the theory to work, there'd have to be a goal. I'm not seeing it. If it is dependent on Lil' Kim going through with the threats, would have happened already. Besides, a well-paid General on either part, effecting a coup would be a much simpler solution, and a more profitable one. Personally, if I were a spymaster in China, I would have already DONE this by now.
Lil' Kim's teeth would be a paperweight on my desk, and my puppet General would be doing Beijing's bidding...but I'm just old school that way....

True, it sounds like a bad movie plot. I said it was crazy.

Just a thought/question to people saying things like, "NK doesn't have the military capability, doesn't have a tech, doesn't have this doesn't have that". This is something I've never understood, how we, as random internet people can believe we know what other countries(or our own for that matter) have or don't have in regards to military anything.

Do you really believe they(any country) just report for all the world to know, every little detail about the military capabilities or numbers of tanks or missiles or troops or anything? I certainly don't. The stealth bomber wasn't officially acknowledged until years after it's creation, and I'm sure there's all kinds of toys they have that they keep secret, so how can we possibly think we know what any nation has hidden up their sleeves?

And even if somehow we DID know every detail of NK's military capabilities, could they not just secretly buy the tech and some scientists/engineers from another nation in order to accomplish their goal?

This site has some interesting info regarding your point, it's provided me with tons of reading. Type "north korea" in their search box and you'll find tons of information which supports both opinions.

I think what amuses me and confounds me the most is how people on this site are generally so distrustful of the corporate government owned, run, and controlled media yet, you people seem to have no problem taking their word at face value on this. Am I the only one who sees the possibility that absolutely NONE of these threats were EVER made and this is ALL propaganda ??

HELLO?!?!?!?

I've actually thought this myself.

How can someone bring down the big bad hood bully? Simple get a bunch of the other hood bullies and jump them. I know my next comment might be far fetched but I'll post it anyhow. What if N. Korea is the attention grabber while the big dog contemplates their move? Possibly China?

"Sure we won't step in if N. Korea attacks, we'll let them get blown out of the water..." While sitting back thinking, "Fools are not going to know what hits them..."

It's a valid question. The best answer I can give you is...to know if it works, it must be tested, and when you are testing a missile, it is pretty plain for the world to see.

In addition to the government telling us (based on human intelligence, captured spies, satellite imaging, spyplane flyovers, etc.), there are tons of international defense companies that compile the data as well, that all kind of keep the data at least somewhat reliable. Also, when making purchases worth millions of dollars, kind of hard to keep that out of the public eye...so simply put, we know what they buy. We also analyze components sold, to know what they can build.

The real kicker though, is to look at the spending. We have single planes that cost as much as NK spends annually on defense. There is a lot of power and flexibility that money gets for us.

You and I think alike. Someone takes Lil Kim out and the Chinese army enters from the north to bring stability (and a new government) to the region.

Where we differ is that I don't believe it would come from within. A small surgical strike from a SEAL team could be in and out before anyone knows they're there...provided they know his location. The troubling thing is that when Kim came to power it was said he was to share it with his military leaders. It could be that any one of them has the authority to initiate an attack. All the more reason for the Chinese to be massing at the border.

I'm sure many on ATS have given this some thought. I know I have.

Fact is though, N. Korea is soo brainwashed that they ACTUALLY think they can win a war against the west...Which we know is bunk...

Sorry, but that is just tripe (In regards to)

Yes, I am anti-American...government... not people. You guys just seem hellbent to believe that your country is doing what is best for the world. Heck, your ancestors didn't even do good during WW II... you just moved in for the take over after the third reich got destabilised by the money paid by the US to France to incite anger towards the facist rule of Germany. Time and time again the US has shown itself to start something, change its mind because the idea backfires and then move in agressively... stop trying to change the world and you will most likely start to see a more peaceful world.

In regards to Gitmo... what's worse being dead or live in hell because you chose to oppose the wrong doings of the American government in your home country?

Again I ask.... why does the US government believe it has ANY right to impose on ANY country what to do or think?
And WHY is the American people blind to the fallacy of this idea?

How many countries have actually openly attacked the US MAINLAND....? NONE... how many countries have the US invaded and attacked?
(don't start on Pearl Harbour.... you can't prove for a fact that it was NOT a false flag action. No-one [/]

How would that work exactly? I'm curious as to what you think China's battle plan would be against the US.

Their biggest challenge is how to get their manpower to us in a way we couldn't attack them enroute. As far as I know, I can't think of a way for them to do this.

If it is a missile confrontation, best estimates have China with about 180 operational strategic missiles capable of hitting the US mainland, and that may be generous (you can throw out that one radical article citing 3000, as that was disproved). And that is if they went all out, with nothing in reserve. A lot of those likely wouldn't make it to their targets, between missile defenses, faults, etc. Counter that with the US's 2000 operational strategic missiles, and it is easy to see how this would play out. (and that's not even counting the over 5000 in reserve)

Mine is telling me that the hidden hand which controls humanity is about to kick off WW3 and we are all just stupid enough to place the blame on N Korea......BECAUSE THE BOX IN MY LIVING ROOM SAID SO!!!

You're right. Actually everything we are being told doesn't quite add up. This link (fairly recent) now says that the missile platform being moved is probably a Russian design and that any launch is most likely just a test. That doesn't make sense. Why would a country threaten to launch missiles at people, tell them they have signed off on the orders, and then start conducting tests of old, proven hardware? I don't know, it just doesn't make much sense.

I was thinking more in a broad sense. I have no idea what China would do if there was a flashpoint between them and the U.S. Mere sloppy guess work at best.

I just think China doesn't want a democratic Korea and would rather have a communist state...

Accusations like that went on both sides of the border. Look up Syngman Rhee. He was the first president of South Korea and was flown there and backed by the US government. He's accused of such trivialities as massacres, curtailing political dissent, corruption, and tampering with elections. He was run out of the country in 1960.
