I'm pretty sure he's dead. The guy who made the videos is omitting critical information that's in the book as evidenced by Mance being raised by the Night's Watch and traveling to Winterfell and meeting Ned prior to becoming the King Beyond the Wall.

It's also worth noting that Dayne doesn't have to be alive to serve any part of the story. His sword and perhaps title however, do. IMO of course.
