He said they went to the "end of the world to find a new Pope".
He didn't say, "the end of the world".edit on 13-3-2013 by FollowTheWhiteRabbit because: (no reason given)edit on 13-3-2013 by FollowTheWhiteRabbit because: (no reason given)
It's not what I understood but even if it's as you say, it's still odd that he said the words "end of the world" in his introduction.

But I do know that Saint Francis was known for his love of nature and I even had to watch The Flowers of St. Francis in CCD (you Catholics know what I'm talking about)
In general, the seagull represents personal freedom, an ideal every character wants but cannot have, due to life circumstances or the actions of other characters.
Rome (CNN) -- Jorge Bergogolio, the archbishop of Buenos Aires, was elected pope on Wednesday, the first pontiff from Latin America to lead the world's 1.2 billion Catholics.
Bergogolio, who will be known as Pope Francis, was elected by cardinals in what was apparently their fifth round of voting on the second day of their conclave.

That's not what he said at all.
He was talking about how they searched the four corners of the Earth, and almost had to go to the end of the world to find a Pope, which they metaphorically did (Italy is far away from Argentina, and he IS the first non-European pope).

I'm hoping Pope Francis I will repair some of the broken bridges between Christianity and Islam, maybe make a push for a larger female presence in Catholicism and more acceptance of homosexuals.

They need to dismantle the mockery of the Catholic church and rebuild it with an emphasis on the Bible not some Roman version of the supreme church. The catholic church has committed and continues to committ the most heinous crimes. I say this because I was a catholic, I am a christain, I have other personal issues that I will not discuss here. The catholic church drove me away, what a pity that 1 most likely good and pure man is tasked with cleaning up a bunch of pedofiles and corrupt power hungry misguided old SOB's.
