This feels good, at least. A humble man, honoring St Francis. I'm on my phone but it would be awesome if someone could post the prayer of St. Francis.
It holds beauty, inspiration and truth for ALL beliefs.

Lessee what happens with the Falklands.

This will have absolutely no impact whatsoever on The Falklands - The Roman Catholic Church has far bigger issues to address.

Not to mention their shocking lack of aircraft carriers and submarines.

Unless they break out the Ark of the Covenant and some angry angels the Falklands need not worry. :-)

What does that mean, exactly?

That's a good question. The talk was vague, along the lines of "Peter" being the leader, and him being "Peter". The whole thing caught me off guard. I don't recall ever hearing a new pope being described that way in the past. Of course, that could be a reporter playing games, and wanting people to speculate. Who knows? He's being reported as being humble, intelligent, and a man that thinks for himself. He doesn't seem to be big on politics, which sounds good.

Priest commenting on CNN, St. Francis of Assisi went into a broken down church building, saw a Crucifix and heard "Francis, rebuild the Church." Alot of symbolism to be sure there.

Pope Francis smiles easily and softly. As others have said, grandfatherly.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

It's not what I understood but even if it's as you say, it's still odd that he said the words "end of the world" in his introduction.

Why is it odd?

Saying "someone or something went to the end\ends of the world to look for someone\something" is a fairly common phrase. I think I actually said it earlier this week in a meeting at work when I was describing how I had to go to many different areas where I work to find something.

Nothing nefarious or odd about this commonly used phrase.Even more when you think about the context that the new dude used it under.

Wow, his facial expression. He looks like he's scared, overwhelmed and on edge of tears, but also happy. He certainly looks much different than our last pope - who looked like he would eat babies for breakfast.

Before finding out there was a new pope, my 6 year old son said a new pope had been elected.
He couldn't have known though because we haven't watched tv or anything this evening.

I posted this in another thread before I knew there was a new pope:

Originally posted by z00mster My son (6) just said that he saw on the (childrens') news that a new pope was elected. And I said "oh?" and started to check news sources on my phone to find nothing. He continued with saying something like, that with this new pope something would change. So I asked him what's going to change. He replied that "at least this pope is 'personal'" and that he would finally not be so bored anymore. So I asked a bit further about why the pope has anything to do with it. And he said, well because it's the pope. After that we kind of reached a dead end so we went about our business again. It's really weird because he hasn't been raised with any religion. Nor is anybody else in his environment. And the pope is not something that we discuss at home. Let's just say it's his vivid imagination. I'm just putting it up here to share and to have it documented. (Just in case.) Cheers

Now I really want to know what my son meant with a 'personal' pope, that will make sure he doens't 'get bored'.

We went to the end of the world to elect this pope? WOW That is something appropiate to say as a pope to your "Catholics"?

I mean I'm sure it would also have been appropiate for him to have said: "We went to hell and beyond to find this pope..."

That is a saying too you know... Maybe even more common than the other one.

The Jesuits have always been at odds with the Vatican. The Jesuits question the Vatican's position on homosexuality, birth control, female deacons, and abortion. It should be interesting to see how this plays out in Pope Francis I.

I wish him the best of luck and will pray for him. It's very symbolic that he should choose the name of St. Francis of Assisi, as St. Francis, upon walking into a church that had been broken down, knelt in prayer and heard the Lord say to him, "Repair my church."

I think we're going to be seeing wondrous and amazing things in the coming years.
