I wonder what the cause of this is.A malfunction?An underwater landslide?A micro meteorite?Or am I still just half asleep and reading the chart all wrong?For some reason I couldn't get to sleep and this was the first thread I took a look at(might as well get some coffee now).

A listing for a tsunami station in event mode.I guess if none of the other buoys close to this go off in the next 30min-2 hours it's just a malfunction.I don't see a cause listed on the site to explain this and I had just checked the most recent earthquake listings(none listed for the area). The chart seems to indicate a 26 or so meter drop over 15 seconds.

It was the time scales involved that i was having most trouble with. If it is only 15 seconds or so then possibly a freak wave? Anyone know what the weather was like there? That seems far more likely than anything seismic related as surely that would be registered elsewhere?

Malfunction or weather is my take though.

I just took another look at the charts and my thoughts would be a rouge wave too.My brain is still a bit sluggish but the coffee is starting to kick in now.

This will be my last post of map and graphs on Santa Cruz for a few days.

[color=lime](click image for interactive map, opens in new tab/window)

I can not recall any aftershock series that I have tracked act like this one has, where the larger size aftershocks actually increased in magnitude as time went on, before eventually going down in size as is normal.

of the 209 events GFZ recorded in the entire series of fore and aftershocks;
123 (59%) occurred in the pm Solomon IslandsTime
86 (41%) occurred in the am Solomon IslandsTime

Of the forehocks;
16 were 4.5-4.9
15 were 5.0-5.8
6 were 6.0-6.3

Of the aftershocks;
67 were 4.6-4.9
92 were 5.0-5.9
9 were 6.0-6.8
3 were 7.0

The Baths Law (1.1-1..2 magnitude less) aftershock occurred 11 minutes after the main shock.

I have seen GFZ change magnitudes up to a day after posting on their page, butnot sure if they also adjust later on like USGS do, I will check all these details next rainy day.

A malfunction was my first thought as there wasn't a up and down motion that you would expect to see with something else.It took me a few minutes to gather my wits,drink some coffee,and wake up a bit.

Rouge? The wave was red?

As a nickname, or as an insult. The sad truth is most people ACTUALLY think it's spelled that way.

Rouge is actually both a shade of red, and a type of makeup, however if you could magically alter it to rouge on the class names, many people wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

Wogue is a much funner nickname, however rouge is not only more well known, but most people don't even know it's just a nickname, or even misspelling. Rouge is possibly the most boring misspelling of classes in World of Warcrack, and why almost everybody misspells it's name so much escapes me.

I missed a "u" in there didn't I.If only the auto-correct could detect insomnia and alert you when in a half zombie like state.Or maybe I'm suffering from paralytic shellfish poisoning today.

In the last few days I have been seeing more than a few quakes listed for Alaska.They are all small(3.0 and under),and are not quakes that would raise any attention.I could not sleep at all last night for unknown reasons;but I talked to a few people today and it appears that they had the insomnia last night too.I found this to be very strange and unusual. The Cascadia Subduction Zone is essentially my back yard and I have been taught to expect a major quake from this fault any day since I've been young.I've been feeling a very weird/strange vibe the last few weeks; I can't sleep,something does not feel right(other people have described the same feeling too),I have felt and odd,very subtle and gentle shaking every few days(that no one else seems to feel). I have noted the exact times I have felt this and I have noticed that every time I feel the weird shaking sensation a very small quake(3.0 and under)has occurred between Oregon and southern Alaska.I find these feelings to be very confusing because I did not in any way feel even the slightest shaking sensation from the Queen Charlotte's quake(not even an intuitive/gut feeling that something was afoot). I have no doubts that my head is filled with trail-mix;but I know something is messed up.

I live in Alaska, I've been paying real close attention to the recent earthquake swarm threads, the pope resignation, and the NK situation. All unrelated but still interesting.......anyway all I'm saying is that I've been waiting or things to start shaking around here in one form or another.....

Nothing being reported just yet, will do some more digging.

Can't wait to hear what "they" have to say about it. ("they" know who "they" are)

ETA: Looks like an aftershock of 3.1 and one I felt it report so far.

US Nuclear test in response to North Korea of course!

Just zoomed in on this in Google Earth and (I think) recognise it as an area where there was a swarm a while ago. I will have to dig that up and see if I am right.

No. I am mistaken.

1991,09,11,164925.59, 37.939,-118.067,2.9, 2,PDE

That is all in a 10km radius, ever. Down to 4.9 now by the way I believe.

A 5.2 in Nevada?? QVS just popped up to alert me of that a few minutes ago, talk about one where you don't expect it. I know the area's a seismic one, but geez, I'm used to seeing 3's there, at best. This is 71km west of Tonopah, so that's well beyond the Tonopah Test Range's area, correct?

It may happen tomorrow, in a hundred years, ten thousand years. It would be a shame to waste living time worrying about what might happen when instead we could be doing something positive, dare I say, enjoyable - trying to understand earthquakes for example!

Don't worry too much WetCoast, it never helps anything. And the anticipation of any thing is always worse than the event itself

(creeps off to bed trying not to worry)

Looks as if it is on this fault

Unnamed faults in the Volcanic Hills (Class A) No. 1319

I was just looking at GE when about 3 more popped up. We have a mini swarm main shock and aftershocks.

My uneducated theory is that Long Valley and all those volcano's on Nevada's west side are connected, angry, and ready to blow.

I thought we could all use an ounce of doom......cuz' we have not had enough of that over the last 9 days

But on a more serious note....I do think that area is all connected in some way, and is well worth watching closely!
