I blame the breakdown of the system. Terrible outcomes like this is going to happen. Large populations driven by money, power, greed will leave many left behind living with desperation, depression, fear, hate, rage, all of these things is going to happen. I call it the squeeze. You have an economy on the brink with so many out of work living in close proximity is like a bomb ready to go off. They can talk about gun control and security all they want. It doesn't matter a gun, a knife, a can of gasoline. You gotta fix whats making people crazy first.

. I probably wasn't the only one that day and I can imagine parents all over America feeling the same way.

I resisted the URGE to pull my 1st grader out of school, but I didn't because I homeschool my 4th grader. Neither of my children have ANY idea of what happened. I will not instill THAT fear into my children. I read all my news and refused to give any TV station ratings.......

Who's to say the shooter didn't also have the "World should end" mindset?. What other mindset would go out of their way to destroy families lives as they know it and tear the heart out of a nation by killing it's most innocent and defenceless?. Right now I can't think of any.

One of the first things I thought of was that Lanza might have been familiar with this story from two weeks ago about another kid from Vernon, Connecticut who traveled to Wyoming to kill his father while he was teaching a computer science class at Casper College. Christopher Krumm killed his father claiming that his father is the one who was responsible for giving him ASPERGERS.

VERNON, Conn. — A man who police say killed his father, a woman and himself in Wyoming on Friday told a neighbor in Connecticut weeks before the killings that he believed his father gave him Asperger's syndrome and said his dad should be "castrated" to prevent him from having more children.

Aye, but that xenophobic waste of air at least had a reason (albeit an evil and dark one) for his actions. He had a political view that informed his actions. It is not one that a reasonable human being could agree with or empathise with one iota, but a reason it remains.

This crime seems reasonless. That said, the article I read mentioned that the perpetrators mother worked at the school, or had done. Perhaps her work interfered with her relationship with her son in some way, and perhaps that is the root of this cancerous behavior.

In any case, the issue is hardly isolated to that root cause, and involves many more facets of society than the simple interaction between family members.

I'm so sorry for all of the victims families here, it's a horrible, terrible, tragic thing to have to endure. Just so hard to get your head around.

I haven't been able to read every single post yet, (have made it about half way so far) but could someone please update me on the possibility of 2nd (or more) shooters being involved?

There was footage on CNN of a man being arrested in the woods behind the school and led to a patrol car in cuffs?
and what happened to the occupants of the van which was pulled over by police in connection with this? (they were supposed to have been armed/disguised?)

thanks,
GTD

Marsha the [Aunt] said the mother had a facebook page, but I can't seem to find it. I looked up the whole family and can't find Marsha or Nancy. All the cousins are on there, but their profiles are mum about the incident. Only a few keep in touch with each other. Was trying to link to Ryan and Adam's profile but Ryan doesn't even link to his mother or brother.

Oh well.

So much for that.

I sincerely hope this tragedy serves as the catalyst for change that America so desperately needs. After watching Obama speak yesterday I am convinced he will do everything in his power to address the issue. Some of you will disagree with him but then again your child wasn't brutally gunned down at kindergarten class yesterday.

A reason to kill children? You think anyone could come up with a good one?

Maybe he hated children.

It doesn't matter, no reason is good enough to commit mass murder on anyone.

WHY are we having so many shootings in such a close time period?

When the end of an empire is nigh, its citizenry being to give into their most base compulsions as the sense of finality overwhelms them and the fear of accountability diminishes. It's not dissimilar to when riots occur and people start looting. Kind of 'fiddling with Nero', if you will.

As such, short of their being some mass about-face on the issue of gun control (over 50% of Americans' cold, dead bodies!
), I think you find more and more of these shootings occurring. It wouldn't surprise me if by this time next year a comparable incident (involving minors) has played out [again] and people then are already utterly inured to it; much like they're seemingly inured to adults being slain like cattle every other week in the US now.

With all these school shootings, I am thinking it's time to go to totally online public schooling, and for those who can afford it, online private schooling. As a matter of fact I think it'd save tens of thousands of dollars (not to mention lives) for our government to just supply the computers to households with school aged children; and the internet you can get as low as 10 bucks a year, so even poor families can afford it, so there is no good reason not to implement this kind of worldwide online schooling. I really am seriously considering withdrawing my kid from school Monday and start her in online school (not only is it safer they can progress at their own rate, so many more students would graduate ahead of their traditional school timeline.)

I know a lot of people will ask what about socializing? Well for those there still would be sports teams and cheer leading to join but it'd be local by area instead of different school districts, there'd be all kinds of clubs still. They could use local gyms and such for the meetings. I think it'd be better for bullied kids, too, as they wouldn't have to tolerate bullies and they would not have to be forced to socialize and in fact they could have their own clubs with only people with common interests.

I'll try:

If you knew those kids would be indoctrinated in a fundamentalist dogma that compels them destroy you and all you love and they could not be wrest from their parents' nefarious grasp before this irrevocable neurological damage was complete...?

The Connection with Thomas Hamilton and the school was significant in some ways. He had been tagged as a pedophile despite to my knnowledge not ever been charged with such crimes but he was stopped from teaching scouts from the higher uppers as they were worried about his behaviour after reports.
He'd blamed his failed business on that after being known as a pedophile, and there are other conections to children which all come back to that.
I have absolutely no sympathy for him just explaining that Him/children and schools are connected.
At the time I was in the last year of school, I live in Cumbria and we had our own massacre 2 years ago.

I'd have to wait until they were adults to do anything close to killing them.

There is that chance that they may grow up 'wrong' and actually love me and what my country stands for.

I am so sad for the families and community that have been struck by this violent nightmare that will never be understood.

No words can describe the Pain I am feeling regarding this awful tragedy. I can only imagine what they are feeling & going through and this extremely depresses me.

the dark minded perp first killed his mother (a teacher at the school) grabbed all her guns & ammo and went methodically to the elementary school, locked and loaded

i suspect he was doped up on RX that had bad side effects...
he knew in his mind that 21 December 2012 was not far away, and he decided to kill the youngsters that themselves were probably getting drugged up on RXs

the perp likely felt he was doing a service to humanity in killing his mother that started the life-in-hell-on-earth experience of his life and then killing the youngsters that were going to follow his hellish ordeal... & then killing himself

all before the 2012 End of World date of 21-12-12

I HIGHLY doubt 12/21/12 has anything to do with this tragedy.
