Because a democracy is where the people have the say on what government policies will be implemented, oh yeah like the carbon tax?
No we don't. When was the last time you got to vote directly on a piece of legislation?
I already answered this.
Australia is a parliamentary democracy so I know we don't vote on every piece of legislation. BUT something as big as the carbon tax which will affect EVERY Australian MUST have a mandate for, she refused to put the tax to the election instead lying her way through.
I would have liked a vote on going to war but it just doesn't happen.
Very true, something as important as the Iraq and Afghanistan wars was not put to the people I never even thought to include that.
But like I said our politicians need to get our permission before doing these sorts of things whether they be new taxes or wars.
I know there are more than 2 parties but in essence most people only vote for one of the big two, otherwise who else would you vote for the Greens?
Or what about Katter?
I vote for which ever representative I feel is most closely aligned with my beliefs. Hopefully will be The Pirate Party at the next election.
If most people aren't doing this, than we have ourselves to blame.
Well at the moment I would say that is pretty unlikely, most people in Australia are unhappy with BOTH sides of politics, I don't blame ourselves I blame the politicians we deserve better.
In fact, people are literally fighting to keep the food on the table in this country, yet Gillard has increased the pay of ALL Federal politicians. Julia Gillard earns more money than any other leader on the planet!!!!
I know we don't vote for the leader of a party but the people ALWAYS know who is the leader of a party before they are voted in and in many cases people vote for the face of the party, ie (Julia Gillard, Tony Abbott, etc)
Being nothing more than figureheads for the party, I feel a lot of people overstate their importance anyway. Policies are put forth by the party and voted on by the party.
Agreed.
Here you go!!!

But other than that I agree with you something must be done, but what?
Then whats this? or is that not it ?

And lets not forget that Juliar Gillard IS a member of the Fabian Socialist Society and during her youth was an active communist.
Australians have far less freedom than they seem to think and, for some reason, many are eager to have even less.

OP, I agree with most of what you are saying in that being mere spectators to government decision making and action is not government of the people by the people and that we are slowly having our demaocracy is slowly being taken away from us and casting a secret ballot every 3 years does not make a democracy.
Re JG being a member of the fabian society, TA is/was a founding member of the HR Nchols society. Neither of these thing matter because the same people control the left right paradigm. Its just something they invented to the masses disunited and by keeping them fighting among themselves so they wont unite and turn on the eleite, the invisible government.
What the elite fear the most is a united little people because a united little people are bigger and stronger than the elite. The elite remember the French revolution all too well.

The "Chicken Lady" Gillard is a raving communist. Do your research and see how recent she was a member of the Communist Party. So if anything it is a Communist dictatorship controlled behind the scenes by the greens. Not facist. Wrong side of the spectrum.

Next election I suppose. But then again there are stupid morons here who actually think voting for the greens is something different after losing faith in labour. They are too stupid to see it was the greens who have Labor by the testicles and creating this situation.

When people discover their lives don't begin and end with a dollar, there'll be no fighting then.

Sending Australian and Kiwi soldiers to wars created by the US is not sending our soldiers to fight for Australia but for a bunch of psychotic rich idiots! There is no honor fighting a war by invading another nation for their rich mineral contracts!
