Nice positioning on the PP with Smyth, that play almost worked perfectly.

It feels like a night where Gagner needs to use his slapper, short windup top cheese slapper.

I so love it when things come together like this, the ways the d-men are now managing their blueline have changed this entire game,it is sweet to see it.That last goal was a direct by-product of that adjustment, well done.

Just keep it up fellas, you are dialed in nicely, they dont know how to reply at this point.

Be prepared for their adjustment between periods, look for Perry to try finishing give and gos from just below the circle using his wrister, quick release. He isnt having any luck so far and will adjust soon.

Nice job of working Getzlaff nice and hard, keep on him now because this is where he feels the need to produce, keep on him,it is paying off.

They will likely try to bring their d-men inside now in the 3rd so keep looking for those poke checks BUT if they adjust and IF THEY DO GREELIGHT THE DEFENSE TO COME IN SWITCH TO THE PHYSICAL STAND-UP INFLUENCE ASAP.And look for the 2 on 1s going the other way because their defense is not set up to bring the pucks inside, they are a peripheral defense,so look for the headman clears banked off the boards that will catch them if they try coming inside on you ,take them standup and try to jam the puck off the boards in a chip shot to your middle defender who can be off to the races, and if you do get it to him off the boards then scoot in to make it a 2 on 1.

DO NOT change your high blueline pressure you are now using UNLESS you see their defense coming in with the puck instead of sitting high, make THEM adjust first but be prepared for it .

COME ON MAN.

You were doing so well neutralising getzlaff, and as soon as you LET UP ON HIM HE BURNS YOU,where was the coverage there, where was the extension with proper body position, two sideways extensions with no one in proper position.

That was NOT the blueline coverage that got you this far in the game , come on fellas.

It is DEFINATELY time to switch to the stand-up defense across the board,if you dont they will take this game away from you, perry and getzlaff are now using their size on you, start stopping them at the blueline or you are in deep waters.

Make one small adjustment now, start lugging the puck to the net the hard way by pushing our way there with medium speed, enough to draw some penaltys, start trying to turn defenders inside out, even if you dont get a premium shot on net take it there and on the way make the defenders turn and have to crossstep to catch you, work the pucks in now,and try to make them take a penalty ,OR YOU WILL GET A CHEEZY ONE CALLED ON YOU,this is that time of the game.

Work harder now at lugging the puck in on extended playactions where you burn a few extra seconds making them chase you, still look for shots not passes, just retain possesion longer and take it at the net making them turn, that will be enough ,dont start overpassing or taking to many blueline slappers that are not controllable, hog possesion seconds on every possesion now.

Finish them,by burning the clock up but still taking it to them, keep your support back and safely in position to defend and simply greelight two guys to go to the net together, most times have the puck carrier take it all the way and use one support man on his tail as a diversion, keep the other forward well back in defensive position. Just extend your possesions in their zone by skating it to their net the long way and making them work ..

Well done,nicely played and coached.

well managed finish.

Eberle sneaks back into the goal race with Hall and Perron,ha ha ha,you gotta love his timing and savvy.

No charge for tonight gentelmen. This one was on the house.See how easy it is to beat the best when you play to your strengths and make better read and reacts than your opponents.

This is what I expect to see all season long next year, from game one on I want to see this type of effort and game managment from everyone, and that is all you fellas need to do to be a Playoff team.

I am not sure what you all were doing to start this one, that was a mystery to me,but you did listen after the 1st period and quickly made the timely adjustments you needed and waited for them to show their hand when you needed, well done.

Nice working with you again fellas. On the upside it seems that the entire cast from seasons start is still hanging in huh?We all must be Loco.

Someone is going to have a Big Night tonight, methinks i can feel the thunder.

Maybe a 4 goal night or a 5+ pointer, but it feels like a night where someone is going to be the recipient of team committment and drive, this roster is keeping its head up and is playing on pride right now,in these situations when the men dig in like this group has instead of bugging out, anything can happen.

If Gagner decides to become more of a goal scoring threat himself either by driving the net or finishing off give and goes with quick release shots then he could have a Big Night. His line has a lot of explosive firepower and if they can score a goal early and stay tuned in enough to quick-strike in the exact same spot again within a few shifts, then the 2nd line has the potential do explode.

Nuge and Ebbs will both be looking to snipe goals tonight to keep pace with taylor,so the 1st line should be dynamite with everyone having the Eye of the Tiger looking for that goal to take the team lead.Great fun for everyone as long as they work hard and selflessly with their transitions and backchecking as their Primary drivers.

Somehow I think Acton will score one somehow believe it or not.

This game will be decided by discipline, penaltys will decide it,so it is a good night to remember to keep your sticks DOWN ON THE ICE,and your feet moving,Most times your sticks come up it is because for some reason your feet have slowed down moving,it is like a barmoeter,so when your coaches tell you to keep those sticks on the ice they are also saying get your feet moving faster and close gaps on pucks and players harder.

At this point in the season, everyone can simply focus on finishing strong on a personal note, giving 100% right to the last game.Just keeping things serious right to the end to properly respect the results everyone will be living with this summer and for the rest of their careers,no one should really be to relaxed right now, everyone should be trying as hard as they can to erase everyones memory of this season.Goals will do this, lots and lots of Goals. And that means hard work and sticking to the system ,thats all it takes.

Ok,fellas,lets get it done.

They are using one of your own tactics, they are letting their forwards take possesion high in their own zone and those forwards are making 3 man laterally strong rushes into the zone quickly in quick strike swarm fashion working as a three man roving unit not a 5 man unit.

They are creating seperation between theri d-men and their forwards this way early before they even exit their own zone, this means they can watch the forwards rush in and send one d-man inat a time as an UMSPEED support to cut through the zone.

All you need to do to stop them is change your forecheck style, and do not let them allow the forwards to pick up pucks in their own d-zone,deny them possesion ,deny their forwards early possesion of the puck, and then take advantage of that gap they are creating.

The key thing is to remember they will send their forwards in like a 3-man swarm cell and it will follow the puck, their d-men will be a SERIOUS threat to come in one at a time UPSPEED to support the forwards and pick up pucks that squirt into the middle.

So you need to adjust the forecheck to prevent their forwards from getting pucks in their zone and you need to properly cover TWO d-men who are looking to jump in one at a time fast and straight up the middle. They will always leave one d-man back if they cn,but will use two quickstrike ,so you need to keep 2 men back to cover those upsepeed d-men coming in.

Stop their early forwards possesions in their d-zone and you deny them the possesion game.

Cover their d-men who are trying to come in as offensive support in an UPSPEED manner, and you isolate their forwards, you seperate them,so long as your two defenders remeber to eyeball those two d-men looking to sneak in you will break their primary o-zone support and secondary offensive plays. .

Remember they will swarm the o-zone as a 3 man unit and take it to the net every time never passing it back,or not usually,so you need to stop their forward rush immediatly at the blueline, the Standup check is needed now. That 3 -man unit will be aggressive and will be shooting ASAP.

Not complaining just saying that the deflections arent really cutting it,so move them over to the side and try to make short onetimers from the sides instead of the deflections from the front.
or,use 2 layers of support for the deflections ,get a guy higher near the middle to take the first stab at it and have a man in front to take the second stab at it,then just keep working it that way with 2 layers of stick support.

I might send the men in to shoot for this goalies elbows myself, he is programmed to go down now for those low deflections and it is time to switch it up on him at once from all lines, go for his elbows to the top corners now,he will get caught cheating a few times before he can dial in to the overall change,do it now.Go back to the deflections in the 3rd.

They know how you hve adjusted in their zone on the forecheck now and are greenlighting the puck carrier whoever it is to take it all the way up-ice and dump and chase using their speed to get deep into our zone, all you need to do to react back is extend your coverage on the puck carrier in their zone, keep body position and remember that the puck carrier will be looking to skate it up because your coverage is so good now,so just extend the initial puck pressure because they dont have the passes they want and will be haedmanning it nearly every time.

In short just watch for their puck possesion player in their d-zone to skate it all the way hard and long and dump and chase.

Dont change much to start the third,Roy is cagey and he wont go back to the 1st period focus till the end,he will instead keep trying use the puck carrier to lug it out 200 feet and dump-and chase, but he will adjust it and try to turn it into a play where he will STACK his players a few deep and use the puck carrier to engage the defense and an UPSPEED man coming behind in support to keep driving the puck forward,he will use a straight forward N/S focus,if he cannot generate anything he will go back to the 1st period execution.

So just be looking for him to adjust the d-zone exit with the puck carrier just lugging it out with an upspeed man coming in behind him instead of dumping and chasing they will try to use the relay play, the puck carrier will engage the first d-man and try to let his upspeed support coming in behind him to pick up the puck and drive it forward.

If you simply use an extended puck pursuit in their zone and keep the pedal down chasing the puck carrier staying on his tail as close as you can then you prevent them from being able to STACK players and drive the puck forward that way.

So really just keep running it as you are ,watch that puck carrier in their zone as he exits stay behind hima nd dont let them stack players to enter our zone, and shoot for the elbows and corners now for the 1st half of the 3rd,and change those deflections to one timers.I would say look for the elbow top corner shots first now then look for shot/pass onetimers from the sides. If you do use the deflections again use two layers of stick suppport.

k is weak and you have nice support in your own zone,so keep your support and everything the same EXCEPT onece in a while tell the d-man who has the puck to challenge the forecheck pressure and get around him heading straight upice, they are thin once you get past that one man forecheck and you can gallop once you get past the single man,he is just chasing the puck and trying to stop passes,so simply side step him and get him into a footrace. You will have men behind the puck carrier just tell them not to all race up with the puck tell them to trail the puck carrier. So simple greenlight your d-men to challenge the forecheck one on one and skate it hard 200 feet, you already have good support in your zone behind them.

Why not try to send a d-man or two end to end,as long as your support doesnt rush with him and hangs back let the puck carrier take a chance or two and run with it,sometimes you can take it end to end.

The 1st line needs to use more give and goes,we might as well open it up on them, and take them into deeper waters offensively.

Dont be shooting from the blueline any more they have brought their coverage up,so look to charge it right in,make sure a forward is ALWAYS ready to cycle up to cover the blueline before you break it in but as soon as the d-man sees a support man cycling up towards the blueline he can blast straight to the net,but NOT until he sees someone coming right at him to his spot,as fast as he is cutting in you need a support man cutting out to his spot on the blueline.the green light will be the forwards motion comng out to support the blueline, the d-man will take it straight in every time as soon as a forward comes uot to support him, that is all the d-man needs to see to go right to the net.

Take it to them now.

You have their goaltender sprawling all over the ice now,go top shots on him already fellas.be carefull trying to drive it our of your zone along the boards they are shutting you down there ,lug it up the middle hard and fast, their coverage gets weaker as you get upice,it gets easier as you drive deeper,so sprint those puck out up the middle on extended drives of your own.

You need to drive at them now not be patient.

It is never to late to use the standup defense with middle support looking to break it back on them looking for odd man rushes the other way.

You do realise right that the deflection idea was silly huh and it reduced your shots on net enough to be the difference, they are getting shots off on every rush they are converting their possesions to shots, at a high % like you should be doing, just simply enter the zone and look for the best shots, keep everyone driving to the net but shoot sooner, the key is the men without the puck, get them to charge the net and have the puck carrier entering the zone pull back and let them close on the net and THEN come up and shoot it.

You do need to get more shots out of your possesions.

erstand why you have come out the last 2 games not using the stand-up defense, physiclly, yes you pulled it off last game by adjusting your spheres of influence, but that didnt mean you were suppossed to try that again tonight,it was a mistake last game you got out of,why repeat it?

Shorten the rink like I said and do it from the 1st period on,stop trying to do it your own way,you ruin games early that way.

Draft Leon Draisaitl, he will be unexpectedly ready to make the roster ,he is already NHL size and plays an NHL style of Hockey naturally.

He has pedigree and truculance, his Father is a Hockey Icon Internationally and this kid plans on surpassing his Fathers accomplishments, you can feel it in the respectfull undertone of his voice every time he discusses his history and his mentorship from his father validated by his dads international resume.Leon knows the surest way to cement his place on that International Team is to build a solid successfull NHL career so he can produce the numbers to show he is good enough to make the National Team,Leon needs a sure method of making that team or he cannot better his father lofty accomplishments, remember Leon KNOWS he can set a new Family standard and HE CAN after all he is his father son,if anyone ever breaks Gretzkys records i might bet it would be another Gretzky down the line somewhere.

There is my draft report.

The NHS version.

I reviewed the rest of the top 5 and a few things stood out at me but this young man seemed to fit the bill in every area perfectly.

I dont think you will get this kid for cheap,he looks to be the type that puts out and makes you pay for every bead of sweat and drop of blood.A fair man.

Dallas has let the last 4-5 games play out and he hasnt been doing his best job by a long shot, there is no way he wants to see this team come together in any way other than the way he exactly prefers.

Dallas has let the men try their own methods of winning games but he has been handicapping them by not using the optimal systems defensive projection,in other words he is only doing the bare minimuum, and also causing intentional hardship with his tactics choices.

The last thing he can do this season is try to reinforce his mantras before the season is over,so he let the men run with it but they STARTED WINNING and dominating games they lost by one goal. So to make sure they didnt end up proving their focus was more optimal than the coaches,mr.Dallas began letting off the gas pedal, like the guy who starts out pushing the car out of the ditch with you but as soon as the rubber hits the road he is all grunts and no push.

If this team cannot come out next season with a solid 2nd line and cannot optimise Nugent-Hopkins and Eberle then Hall must be considered as trade bait. Perron can provide Halls 1st line puck possesion pressure now and Nuge and Ebbs will be able to handle the puck more and provde more of their own offense to the 1st line.

Hall is the natural one to be traded as his value has risen steadily,we can get a 2nd line winger to replace Perron and better support Gagner and Yakupov on the 2nd line to mke up for the stupid MPS trade AND we can get a Veteran scoring winger to round out the 3rd line and solidify some scoring off of Gordons faceoff wins. The defense is going to have to take care of itself, this roster has to button down and focus on one Primary issue at a time and the forwards are still being settled in,we need to reinforce our 2ndary and tertiary scoring immediatly.Marancin AND Klefbom have looked good so far,and judging by Nurses showing already he will be on the roster.

Drop the C on Gagners shoulders, settle the room down, trade Ference because we have to much talent breaking in to not and if we wait we simply lose value.Trade Hall for the 2nd and 3rd line NHL LEVEL quality players we need, you can be picky after all you are trading Hall the premier upcoming NHL Left-winger,--especially valuable with his recent FOCUS on defense, trust Perron to provide the 1st line support he has shown he can handle and you are a better team for it.

The 1st line CANNOT carry this team in todays NHL,a one line offensive team with 3 checking lines and an experienced defense will not fly in todays game. This is what Dallas has been aiming for all along

Yakupovs development was hindered at the worst possible time by putting perron in his 2nd loine spot and by Gagners injury, next season we NEED to see Nail and Sam supported with the righ winger to optimse them both. The problem is Perron because he has turned into a producer who is not the right 2nd line winger, its either run with Perron as the 2nd line catalyst and move Gagner and Yakupov or move Perron and bring in the right man to give the team a 1a scoring line again.

The reality is that David Perron may have made Taylor Hall and expendable player. No one expected Perron to do so well and we can all see now that he can handle the 1st line minutes and that he is grittier than Hall and every bit as much a shooter,Eberle and Hopkins are already pass first players so Perron is a natural fit.

MMMMMM,seems to me that as soon as Laddy started chirping the Party-line he was on the Block,MMm,seems to me someone has been chirping the Party-line lately and this could be a sign from the Hockey Gods.

I think it is Taylors defense that is what makes him such a prolific scorer at the NHL level,so I am not sure what Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins will do without him but I assume they will find ways to use more of their own above average skillsets to somehow make up for a change.

You see I would carve this roster up to keep the right man leading the roster,I believe Sam Gagner is the right man for that job,put him on the PP with Ryan Smyth and we will all see the Record broken by Ryan tonight.

At this point in this kind of season we all need to come clean, and I am,Gagner is the leader of this roster and has been growing into that role for a long time,in 2-3 years Nugent Hopkins will be ready to take over from everyone concerned including Taylor Hall,it is like Gretzky and Messier,Hall will never take the leadership role from Ryan-Nugent-Hopkins.So it is a simple solution, move Ference, move Hall and lets get this show on the road.Or simply move ference and put the C on Sam where it belongs and an A on Hopkins and an A on Hall and get settled.

Until I see Hopkins and Eberle scoring consistantly alongside Hall I will not give taylor my stamp of approval,he has at least one more year to go,next season if we dont see his linemates putting up wayyy more points then he will become an offensive one way winger.

I feel we could replace him now with Perron and still have an NHL 1st line put there.
I feel hall is to good to be a 2nd line winger so he becomes an asset immediatly because I see Yakupov as a key man unlike Dallas,Nail will anchor our 2nd line for 1-2 years until he is ready to move up.I am not willing to move Gagner or stunt Yakupovs growth ot see Hopkins and Eberle underachieving to keep Halls points totals up where he wants them to remain. He has to score a PPG AND bring his linemates to another level as well or Perron can fill his shoes putting up cherrys on the 1st line.

Put Gagner on the 1st PP with Smyth and lets get this done already.

All you need to do is challenge the kings one-on-one in their zone instead of cycling so much, the cycle is fine but SOMEONE has to break out of it and drive the puck to or at the net,so this man CAN break out of the cycle after the 1st pass,he doesnt have to continue to cycle ,this keeps everyone facing the boards you dum-dums, it doesnt usually take more than one pass max two on the cycle to have the speed and momentum to cut it to or at the net,so why waste time and spin your wheels,if you are going to cycle it then BREAK THE HECK OUT OF IT SOONER,but my advice is to simple take the Kings on one-on-one everywhere, make moves on them, turn them inside out,go one-on-one between their legs and anything you want to do,as long as you take it to the net.Get fancy, when you plan on taking it one-on-one you can catch them off guard easily.
