Troops being deployed to Israel are for when the sh*t hits the fan, because if the U.S. moves in on Iran, Russia and some other islamic countries are going to try to pound the sh*t out of Israel to cause a war on several fronts and you really don't want your troops spread thin like that because that is disaster. Logically the reason the troops that left Iraq are going to afghanistan to hit them from that side while our navy takes the straight of Hormuz to deliver air and naval support so we can establish a beachead on Iranian soil where our Marines will go in from that side and the 101st Airborne will probably come in from afghanistan. Thats what i would do. Its a classical battle strategy called a "nutcracker" and Iran ends up being the nut.

If Iran hits Israel before the US is physicality in Israel in force, the US deploying troops after an attack would be viewed as they've only coming in aid of Israel however. If the US is there before Iran does something stupid the US can claim Iran, in addition to attacking israel, attacked the US. And then the fight is a matter of the US protecting itself against Iran the aggressor. Not that the US really cares, it makes for a more legitimate reason for the US to enter into yet another war and palatible to the US taxpayers who ultimately bear the cost of any and all wars...

How many countries do you think Iran is planning on taking on all at once?

They'd be nuts to attack Israel or the US. Even if, and I say IF they have a couple of nukes, they wouldn't dare use one as both countries would be able to make Iran glow in the dark.

None of this makes sense.

I'm sorry, but I find that hard to believe due to their hatred of Israel and known Israeli-US ties.

I am not forming my opinion based on the MSM, but from my own personal experience during my deployments to the middle east.

I try to keep an open mind but it is hard when their leadership is acting as suspicious as they are.

This total political BS....
I'll tell you what:
When I see the mushroom clouds out of my living room window (which faces east across the Gulf)
I will U2U immediately!

The Strait or Arabian Gulf situation will not change. Iran can NOT close the Straits because of their need for refined oil products.
Do not any of you people know anything about the actual oil/refined product ratio of Iran?

ATS, THINK!!!

I'm skeptical, but you never do know what is going to happen. We'll find out in a few weeks I guess.

If this was true why would they mass in Israel within range of Iran's missiles / Hezbollah's rockets?

Because more than likely they would be shot down as that's why they are going there. The Navy also has a SM3 Capable destroyer off the Israeli coast that can shoot anything down. I would be surprised if the Iranian missiles are a little more accurate than Iraq's Scud missiles, witch may mean they can hit somewhere in the city but never hit one building that they aimed at let alone one missile launcher.

They are really not worried about Hezbollah bottle rockets, especially since they have Iron dome and the U.S. will bring their towed Phalanx gun system that was highly effective late in the Iraq war.

The wars in Afganistan and Iraq were started by Bush, Jr., a Texas cowboy out to prove that he could be brave with other parents' children. Obama has had that albatross around his neck since he took office. All blood spilled rests on Bush's shoulders.

If stupidity were a crime, Bush would be in for life without parole.

I agree with you. But remember it is not the populace!
It is a bit like Syria, If someone, anyone, would help them, they would overthrow their theocracy as fast as McDonalds could put out a Big Mac!!

They are the most Westernized population in the ME, right up there with us here in the UAE, Bahrain and Qatar.

There will be no bombs or sea battles.

Alrightie then anyone who knows anything about us military wepaon systems knows there is only 1 offensive weapon system in the missile arsenal and that is the tomahawk and of course that is based of 70s technology.

Since someone brought up CNN here you go for your reading interests:

“The U.S. European Command and the Israel Defense Forces periodically conduct routine exercises in Israel,” the Israeli military said in a statement. “U.S. European Command routinely works with partner nations to ensure their capacity to provide for their own security and, in the case of Israel, their qualitative military edge,” it said.

www.washingtonpost.com... cP_story.html

I guess the buzz here is simple it's 2012 "the end is nigh" crowd freaking out over nothing and acting like war mongers and true enough like was already said Defense has been cut and will continue to be cut.

The last element to this is it is an election year and Obama will do nothing especially start a "War with Iran" with that coming up.

People really need to think here.

I take it you hold a TS clearance? That's bad ass. How would you describe your job "officially"? Are you a developer of these systems?

That's extremely retarded to have a sniper involved in hearts and minds missions. That is not what they are trained to do, and that is painting him as a target. I'm sorry to hear that. I don't agree with a lot of decisions the command makes, especially with how inexperienced some of these 20 year old COs are. Give me a break. IMO the military should critically rethink the command structure.

ANYWAY, it's good to know the extent of our defense systems. I had no idea of space based detectors for things like that. I have no doubt in my mind the capability the US has to neutralize threats.

If iran puts mines near the small entrance and sinks ships, how is anything going to go in or out without pulling up one or two sunken ships? That means all, ALL activities will be halted in that event. I think that is why iran built small subs to duck and cover, even those small boats they have will easily cross above any sunken ships. The passage there at the tip is so small and so shallow, it is a trap for anyone iran does not like. If such an event happens, i wonder how this will effect the nation of china and others who has oil deals with iran. If that happens then people would have to lob missles across a whole other country whom may or may not be willing to do so because of implications of who's side is on who's. and iran will attack that country for doing so. If this happens, it will be a missle strike first. The largest missle strike ever seen. Iran will exspect this and concentrate it's strength underwater to sink ships that defy them. The whole thing is crazy. A bad idea. It will cause a domino effect that i fear will lead to a long war. I hope they do more peace talks.

Oh common, the straight at its narrowest point is 35 miles. They would have to sink a lot of ships and If you think the U.S. Navy wont sink the entire Iranian navy after the first ship is sunk by them your not thinking correct. The days of warning Iran are over, I guess they didn't learn their lesson from Operation Praying Mantis.

Let me see U.S. Navy Virgina or Sea-wolf class sub verses 1950's Russian clunker sub. I would use one Sea-wolf class sub and take out the entire Iranian Navy and that is an absolute fact.

So what joint miltary exercises happen all the time doesn't mean anything and it sure the hell doesn't mean war.

Oh know! us and japan military exercises mean we are going to go to war with China! or North Korea!

This is tiresome the boy who cried wolf.

yes, joint military exercises happen all the time. And yes, it doesn't mean we are going to war. I do have a question for you tho. Why have any joint military exercises in times of tensions between countries? Does that make sense? I did not say we were going to war, all i made was comments of, what if. SO, with that said.

Dude, have you heard some of these Republicans lately? A good chunk of the population is already brainwashed into thinking we have to bomb them, or else it will be the end of America. I wouldn't be so sure that we won't go to war there in the near future, but I wouldn't bet my life on it.

I definitely know Iran won't close it. It would cut them off from the rest of the world due to harsher sanctions PLUS the lack of income due to no oil exports. PLUS they would have a war on their hands.

I have a feeling that what ever happens, the US will be alone with exception to Israel. UK is saying we have their backing "if and only if" they close the strait. I'm not sure of what circumstances would change their mindset.

I honestly hope this "war" doesn't break out, I've been reading posts from everyone's perspective on this thread for some time now and to me all this seems so pointless. Iran says this, America says that (the bear analogies were pretty good though) why can't the U.S. bud out and Iran shut up. If this war does occur I hope our boys don't have to get involved.

I as an Australian citizen have no problem with Iran or its potential allies (China, Russia etc. etc.) and all of this nonsense will just be a complete waste of life and resources. While millions starve across the globe our Governments focus on bringing down "regimes" that don't even have the military capabilities to launch a land invasion of neighbouring countries let alone fight the United States and its allies in an all out life or death war.

Whether it's for oil or just to plainly kill this whole scenario is messed up and if $*#^ hits the fan there's going to be no need to watch the news. We won''t be witnessing this on our televisions, our air raid sirens will be ringing and our military will be evacuating us from our homes (that's if all this talk of Russia and China being associated with Iran is actually true)

This is just my 2 cents don't even reply to me as I just wanted to throw my opinion into this discussion.

It is not because of biased and/or uninformed posters.
Children posting from there parents basement or others that have never been out of their house, block, town, city, county, parish, state, country...

I rest my case: Unless you have been out of your local area...you have NO VOICE!!
