Christianity, is it child emotional abuse?

There seems to be a group of self-proclaimed "Christians" on ATS who POINTEDLY REFUSE to look at modern study among theologians, historians, scholars, researchers, and other spiritual leaders. When offered outside sources and reference materials, they say "I don't need to read ancient writings". No, they scoff and sneer and roll their eyes and laugh out loud when proven facts and well-researched documents or sources are offered up.

I don't scoff and sneer....or roll my eyes.. why would you make something so hateful up?

I merely pray for you.. and may discuss why I don't choose to follow writings such as these.

perhaps you are putting your actions onto me?..i don't know..but please tell me how you know i scoff and sneer and roll my eyes.. because it is simply not true.

[sarcasm] Oh well, if there weren't people like that who believe their church leaders blindly, just think of all the ordained clergy who would find themselves unemployed! And if it weren't for all of us sinners, those blind followers would have no one to ridicule! Oh my! Oh noez! If everyone was "saved" and "perfect" and would just LISTEN AND BELIEVE, well, then, there wouldn't be any cause to abuse others....children AND adults

I am not ridiculing anyone wildtimes.. and I have said repeatedly you have the right to believe as you wish.. please allow me that right without ridicule.

Christian wouldn't steal my purse or someones Nikes...its actually more insidious than that. They go for the big guns..they want a grab at peoples eternal souls. Its very hard to get across the point "no."

There are many times where I have felt that others don't get my "no".. and have been ridiculed for not seeing things their way..so I can relate.

The fact of the matter is.. no one can grab your soul.. and if you honestly don't want anything to do with what they believe.. you have that choice.

He then went BACK to Kashmir and lived until 80 AD. The tomb is there, above ground, with symbolism that represents the crucifixion.

I have made some mistakes wildtimes.. but I am not the hateful person you say or think I am...

I have apologized... and so have you..

Because you have apologized for the hateful things you have said about me.. does that make it ok to continue..?

Jesus may have had some philosophies comparable to Buddhism but they are not Buddhist.. they are Christian...coming from His father.

I don't want to argue with you wildtimes.. I sincerely want to love you.. through the love of the Holy Spirit.. and I will continue to pray for you..in love.

Obviously I'm not the only one that has had run-ins with Gabby and/or Colbe. Wildtimes you said it so perfectly..the problem is the circular thinking. I've said that same thing myself.

But moving on..the ones I feel sorriest for are the kids. The idea that any church would have its members believe that children "are born with a penchant for sin." I'm having a super hard swallowing that. Its simply not true. They're young children..they are taking their first steps in learning how to be in the world. Its sooo much for them to take in. We're all adults. We've had years and years to learn the rules of this society. So a child steals a cookie..its not the end of the world. You say, "you shouldn't do that (and then let it go). You won't be hungry come dinner. Wait till we eat." Its wrong to think a child is always waiting for the next opportunity to sin. They haven't formed that concept yet. They won't understand that for years yet. The child wants a cookie..a cookie looks really good --they're being honest if anything. They only need to learn to ask for one or to wait till after a meal. Easy enough to tell them.

And certainly not a reason to beat a child.

I'm convinced prospective parents ought to take a test first. I know people aren't born being parents and used to learn along the way. But that is at the childs expense. Thats who gets lost.

Nuns and priests have never been parents. They should stay out of it entirely.

Take a look at some episodes of supernanny ..and see what happens to children when certain issues are not dealt with.

We're not talking about a child taking a cookie from the cookie jar here.. we are talking about some serious attitude.

Its referring to the fact that your (somewhat blind) beliefs could cause you to be an enabler to a child abuser.

example - one of your earlier statements

.... and it implied that we needed to teach children the degree of their sinfulness....

Thats some scary stuff, have you though about how others (that are being enabled) could perhaps interpret that?

I think a child needs guidance. I wouldn't use the words discipline or correction...sounds like they are in prison or something..I guess in some households thats what it amounts to though.

Put the cookies up where they can't reach them in the first place.

What serious attitude are you referring to? Can you be more descriptive?
