One should first try clarifying ones own stance instead of pointing fingers at others for your own failures.

If the movement is trying to gain support

You're doing it wrong!

Absolutely.

As many have pointed out, there are other ways to garner support.

You need Leaders that have charisma, cant be bent, cant be bought,IE; Gandhi,MLK,Mandela.

Someone with clarity.

I see NOTHING like this with OWS.

[color=dodgerblue]I can agree with that statement.

I frequently speak with my dear old Dad about current events and he said the same thing. Occupy is barking up the wrong tree. They need to Occupy the whitehouse if they truly want to make a difference.

And I think he was totally right.

But that doesn't matter at least people are barking!
Getting people to wake up and pay attention.

Agreed~! When real eyes, realize, real lies, THEN and ONLY then will they wake up and STOP voting at the polls, for anything period, that is the ONLY voice the government will hear.

edit on 18-11-2011 by Komodo because: (no reason given)

Our government is already corrupt enough. Not voting period would turn us into a dictatorship.

OWS protesters could only preach what they understand like loss of jobs, house repossession and so forth it is a given that all theses effects are linked to one source. BUT most can not link these effects to a clear enemy. They truly do not know who to blame. FOR OWS to succeed we need to educate the 99% on a wider scale than any protest as ever done in history before we challenge

That's the core of (not just) your problem, I guess.

Maybe the answer may lie in a qoute of another of my most favorite movies:

"What is the Matrix? The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now, in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work... when you go to church... when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth. That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else you were born into bondage. Born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch. A prison for your mind.

The Matrix is a system, Neo. That system is our enemy. But when you're inside, you look around, what do you see? Businessmen, teachers, lawyers, carpenters. The very minds of the people we are trying to save. But until we do, these people are still a part of that system, and that makes them our enemy. You have to understand, most of these people are not ready to be unplugged. And many of them are so inured, so hopelessly dependent on the system, that they will fight to protect it."

Maybe the bitter truth is, that the enemy is us. Because WE ARE THE SYSTEM. Everyone of us, by paying taxes, by consuming, by just being part of this selfdestructing machine that our civilization has become.

And to survive, we have to overcome ourselves. Our fear and our hate.

I believe, if we don't realize, that we all share the same fate, that we are brothers and sisters that should take care for each other, than we all are condemned to find a very bitter end.

"It's in our hands, it always was..."

If the OWS movement had, let's say, 100 million participants, then the PTB would sit up and take notice. Up to now, only a small percentage of the American people participated, which shows the average Joe does not want things to change (for various reasons, mainly ignorance).

Ignorance? Maybe the ignorant average Joe is watching what is unfolding in Egypt and thinking that a military dictatorship is not looking like a better deal.

if the numbers are there the government should at least listen and start a dialogue with the protesters in our case the 99% to see how to implement our changes.

They can't.

The OWS has slammed that door, and blocked discourse, because "no one speaks for the whole!" - there are no representatives of the movement to dialog with - and because they have presented no proposals for "changes", only gripes - there is nothing to dialog about.

Not the Government. That's for sure.

Removing the Fed is like cutting off the financing. Americas forefathers fought a bloody war to stop the English from doing the exact same thing.

I feel it will take as much blood, if not more, the second time round.

The OWS movement was a mish mash of crap that was then hi jacked by certain parties.

Even though i wanted to back it, it was very hard for me to do so since they have no clear message.

Slack voter turnout has never bothered them before - why would it now? They'll go with the votes that are cast, even if there are only two for the entire nation, and it only means that the people making decisions for you will have considerably shrank in numbers.

OK I guess it was unfair/incorrect of me to group in hippies with this particular group i'm talking about. All of the stuff you listed is great and you believe in it and that but I'm talking about hipsters. Who do anything because it's the style. And do the other things I listen.

Even without OWS the system will eventually collapse under its own evil weight. When the babyboomers are done milking the same corrupt cows they will turn on their masters, the media will take notice and the old money folks will fold like $20 prostitutes.

I don't really care about the numbers of OWS anymore, just like I did not care about the Tea Party membership. It is good in that it helps raise awareness of the real issues among the sheep, but I am not naive enough to think it will sink the ship alone.

Actually that's not exactly true.

It is because of suppression and intense punishment measures applied to anyone who stands up against the system.

I just watched that new documentary, "Thrive" and it is really hard hitting and pretty good. I really liked it a lot.

That's the full video. I recommend it to everyone. It's awesome.

OP, I acknowledge the effort you put into your post. That said, OWS was no more 'my movement' or 'the people's movement' then was the NeoCon hijacked Tea Party. If you want real governmental reform you have to have a clear purpose and folks brave enough to tell the PTB, to go F*** OFF!

You can't get change by whining or by electing a hack that gets on the bandwagon. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Fascism is here to stay.

yes and were always gonna fail on the national level, start protesting your local government and push your corrupt governors and congressman to start making the change, it starts at the bottom buddy and jumping the gun and goin straight for the top is gonna do little, our country is too divided for that type of action, we need lawmakers to start pushing for the change. America is america because of our congress, because of the union of states, what state do you live in? is your governor openly supporting the corrupt policies that are making you so angry? what about your congressman? he has an office SOMEwhere in your state, you can even call and e-mail! get your mayors involved, get your local lawmakers involved, get your locals involved PERIOD. the problems facing us now arent enough to wake up the average joe whos still succeeding in this tense atomosphere. the only way to change the system is to get inside of it, know in and out how it works, learn why exactly it isnt working and go after it. the occupy movement isnt just going to magically make everybody smarter and more investigative, its just gonna wake people up to the fact that not ALL of us are happy!

Many of you tossed the Occupy movements to the side as a political inconvenience and ridiculed the people that were willing to take a stand on principle

Complaining and raping, smoking dope and bitching in the street is not taking a stand on any principal. OWS was nothing more than woodstock with less music.

They had the attention of the world, and used it to ask for rich people to pay for their tuition.

Also, the "finger sign" thing...yeah, talk about horrid.

You cannot arrest an idea whose time has NOT YET come, either. They are ideas - where do you click in the cuffs?

What you arrest is people - about 400 yesterday, just in relation to OWS.

people have places you can click the cuffs on to.

The 9% approval rating for congess is something, now isn't it? I believe Khadaffi's final rating was around 17% - nearly double that. That's what his rating was when they executed him...

Even so, OWS insists on shouting at the deaf on Wall Street, rather than bringing pressure to bear on the weak points of their ALLEGED opponents...

Which tells me something. I'm just not yet sure what that something is... I'll let the reader decide for himself what could be wrong with that picture.

No, you're not. I'm sure you mean well, and think you are, but the fact is you can't even see the evil.

Not YET, any ways...
