What do you mean by ''Islam is not a friendly religion'' ? Have you read the Old Testament lately ?! Nasty !

Islam, like Christianity, Judaism or any other religious belief, is only as good as - or as bad as - the adherent.

Islam has flourished in Rwanda, for example, since 1994, because many members of the small - at the time - Muslim minority in the country, risked life and limb to save and shelter fleeing Christians from being hacked and burned to death by other Christians.

So I didnt know where to post this mods please move accordingly. This is TOO FAR to me. What is going on in the US. We have become a nation of sissies. Whatever happened to ethnocentrism being a POSITIVE thing for a country?! We should not be letting this to affect the way we do things in THIS country, If they want to celebrate the holiday, then stay home, like the jews do when they have a holiday not celebrated in this country! This is an outrage Im sorry.
www.theblaze.com...

The fact that Tuesday (today) is also Election Day might have had something to do with it. Most if not all of the schools in CT are closed today for Election Day.

They get to kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak....

Come on lets face it muslims were given their holiday out of fear and nothing more.

because certainly they don't deserve a holiday day off of their own?

the very idea is just completely ludicrous?

So since Christians have their own holidays Christmas(no matter how commercialized it has become its still "Christian" based) and now muslims have their own holiday off. Now since muslims are allowed prayer time in schools and their own prayer rooms..should Christians be allowed to pray in school and have their own prayer rooms as well?....Just sayin' you can't have it both ways.

Muslims are required to pray at certain times during the day, Christians can pray whenever they want.
It's a pretty important difference.

Stuff like this bores me, why not take a independent holiday from public school all together? I'm against school so I can't get my panties all in a bunch over this because I just don.t care.no offense to anyone.

Against it in what regard? I'm against the fact that it's mandatory, and that specific classes are mandatory. People should be able to take ONLY what they wish to be knowledgeable in.

you're not wrong - we absolutely can't have it both ways

public schools are not religious schools - so, what's the obvious solution?

and that's what this is really about - Christians do not own this country - it belongs to all citizens

like it or not

What about Christma... I mean Holiday break or Easte...I mean spring break.

On the one hand I don't mind this at all but then on the other I have to /boggle a bit as schools continue to rename other religous holidays and out and out gut others (Schools not celebrating Halloween).

But what the hey, this is America, variety is the spice of life.

Which christian holidays aren't rooted in peganism?

Pentecost and Easter. Our Pentecost is actually the jewish holiday Passover. Yeshua was crucified on Passover, and Pentecost happened 50 days later (we recieved Ruach ha Kodesh, the Holy Spirit). Thats all we have left that the Roman Catholic Church couldn't corrupt.

Partially correct. I agree about Pentecost, but Easter is a pagan holiday. Easter comes from the worship of the goddess of fertility Eastre.

That said, allow me to address a common misconception by atheists and theists alike. The United States of America is a Christian country. The majority of its population is at least nominally Christian, therefore it is a Christian country. Please, stop confusing the law of separation of Church and State as if it meant a separation of Church and Culture. It doesn't. The word "government" is present in all those statements for a reason. It is mean to indicate that such statements apply to your government, not to you or to your culture. Your government may be secular, but your culture is not. You are a Christian country with a secular government.

can I shoot the idea that there should be another holiday? I believe the OP is right, we have grown soft on letting one religion come into the country and take over. Now I'm LDS, and so far I like the religion being separated from the state, it helps in a lot of things.

The world is changing, my friend. The old ways of religious domination are fading. You're not seeing some grand conspiracy against the world's TRUEst religion, you're seeing a species gradually shifting away from old, flawed ways of thought and embracing an increasingly evident truth; we're all in this together.

The world is changing, but not the way you believe it is. It is becoming increasingly more religious. The major religions of the world are increasing its membership at a faster rate than the world's population is increasing, which means that the percentage of religious people in the world increases every day.

You are right...and wrong. Yes, our children do get a Christmas break and a Spring break. But Christmas break is now "Winter break." And well Spring break doesn't really need a name change because it doesn't have "Easter" in it. So in my opinion, it doesn't really matter that they gave the kids the day off for a religious holiday, but at least they could've been clever about it. They could give it a name like..."help your mom around the house day" or "take a day and play.....or pray day." I mean let's get real! People are complaining that they don't give "Christian" holidays off but you know dam* well they do. They just change the name to avoid people complaining about it.

I see nothing wrong with this decision personally. The general principle makes sense in our free society. If they followed the guidelines laid out in their society to make a vote on this decision and the majority of the citizens agreed with it then why not?!

On a side note, this post inspired me to create a facebook group called "Bring Christmas Back!" - we should not be afraid to discuss Christmas or Christian values in our society as these individuals should not be afraid to express their beliefs as long as they are not hurting anyone in the process.

Just my 2 cents.. made an account on this place just to post- lol.

Obviously the God of Jews and Christians which this nation was founded upon and anyone that denies it is ignorant about history. The god of Muslims is not the same as Jews & Christians. Anyone that says different is a liar.

Since when was this ever a Christian country? It was founded on freedom of religion and liberty last I checked. There's not enough Islamic holidays if you ask me.

Yeah, i wonder where "God Bless America" come from? Maybe it's a Muslim song?

United States had been founded under christian beliefs, believe it or not.

But, i agree that Muslims can have their holiday and any other religion that have enough people to justify it. What i can't agree is that the Muslims are "offended" by Christmas trees and all other christmas related stuff and the state is doing everything to please them, disregarding the christians. That, IMO, is the real problem.

I'm from Canada and we are almost in the same situation. Nobody can carry weapons in schools, except for the Sikh who can bring their Kirpan wherever they want (except for courthouses and planes)... IMO that is something really unfair.

Peace out.

:-)

so, there is more than one god then - I always wondered about that...good to know

did your God write our constitution? And what did your God have against England exactly? Or, is England ruled by a different God...?

holy pantheon, this does get confusing... :-)

do you think it's OK to ask the godless to live by your rules?

your house - your rules?

assuming it's really your house of course

I used to live in Hawaii and every year on June 11th (in these UNITED STATES) every school in Hawaii would close for King Kamehamehaday and guess what I'm not Hawaiian. I know right? How dare they force their Hawaiian ways on me.

I bet 9 out of 10 kids or heck maybe 10 out of 10 kids are more than ecstatic to have a day off, but who cares what they think. Their just kids after all.

No there is only one God. But people have their own god or gods. They are really just the fallen angels that deceive the world. I will only speak to you in a civilized manner. I'm not playing your games.
