Hi LightAssassin & everyone else. All that a friend and I would like to do is, as I stated a few posts back observe this asteroid, christen if you will, his 500x114mm portable telescope (not sure if that is good enough either)

Please could someone tell us whether to point the scope North, South, East or West from the Lake District in the North West of England...or give a hint as to a constellation to aim towards..please.

Thanks.

I thought the world was going to end
and I wasted time on here
But now NASA has Etch O Sketch
And my fate is not so clear..
If what I argued became truth
I'm as crazy as King Lear..
For I should be out getting laid and using my spear
Crash! bang! doom!
and Onomatopoeia.

But there will always be room
for a rebellious voice
for he (she) who picks ignorance..
Makes a perilous choice.

This is for ATS from me to you
Lets hope next Wednesday
the sky is still blue...

What scope have you got? More details than what you've given if possible?

Its magnitude will be 11.75 if it does not plummet into Earth. That will take a good scope to see, and with the speed it is moving, it may be very very difficult.

Poorly timed.

Can we behave like adults now?

Yes it was and I apologise , sincerely .

I have the deepest respect for intelligence , but not when that intelligence is purposefully used to impishly spread fear.
That does not include you or the OP .

Gotta go now . I have plans for later and I aim to see them through , just like the majority of us .

And you're critiquing him when you can't even discern timezones/times correctly? The maths involved in times isn't all that complex.

I can understand why this whole OP has gone over your head and you are calling it fearmongering. Humans generally are afraid of what they do not understand.

The OP was fear mongering And you are embarrassed because you applauded his mathematical prowess .

I feared nothing from the start , because I trust the guys who are payed to do their jobs and I chose not to listen to egotistical wannabe scientists .

There is no danger , folks . Do not listen to these jerks.

Why are you getting so worked up over it?

Hits, doesn't hit - nothing anyone can do about it. Fear mongering? Do people seriously get worried about reading OMG DOOM threads on a conspiracy site?

Have a beer, read the thread and relax.

Are you really giving yourself a slap on the back for deducing that it's likely that a comet won't hit us tomorrow? Does it really take that little?

I shouldn't judge though....I get amped up when I don't burn the microwave popcorn and when I back out of my garage without hitting a garbage can.

OP stumbled onto something, discussed it coherently, and found an error. If you paid attention, like many did, you probably learned something. Notice that his title wasn't "ZOMG YU55 brutal impact imminent?!?!?!?!?!?!!!"

Playing with the numbers intelligently, communicating something, then admitting an error isn't fear mongering, and inquiry is always worth the trouble.

So we won't be able to see this with the naked eye? What time is this sucker supposed to pass for someone in Ontario?

I will do my best . Thank you for your kind words of reassurance . I will sleep soundly now , knowing people like you are here to put everybodies minds at rest . I bet your family really value your wisdom ?

You two obviously havent kept up with the thread at all. Read around page 10 or 11. Btw, just because you dont understand the math does not give you the right to criticize. Have you offrred anu substance whatsoever?

The scope that my friend (yes I do have one left lol) Dave & I are taking up to the lakes to observe with is 500x114mm with two barlow lenses, it only cost £330 but may do? This is not my forte but I have never viewed an asteroid & the scope has only been out of its box, never used. Thanks a lot for replying, we are taking binoculars too, throwing in sickies & making a day & night of things if the weather holds.

Many thanks again.

I feel like ATS is somewhere you should be able to post what ever it is you want, but we all share something by even being a part of this board. So we should start showing a little more respect, We Are All Human.

Humans Make Mistakes!

Just like these NASA scientist apparently did.

And also its worth noting we are due for a large impact(200-400m) between now and 200 years from now. Very possibly in our own lifetimes!

no offense but the euro space agency thing is kind of a joke. They didn't participate in the space race... France is located there....

Always use NASA and NASA numbers, literally best in the business
