Lets say (for the sake of argument) OWS kills capitalism.
*die die die*

What is OWS going to replace it with?

Communist Russia, Communist China, Socialist Nazi Germany, Communist Cambodia, Communist Vietnam, Communist Ethiopia....If we were to count all the human beings communism has butchered, it would be in the 10s of millions.

The problem is people, not the social system. We tend to forget that social systems are creations of individuals. If individuals are greedy, and lack compassion, society will continue to be place of sufferring and inequality.

Sorry your thread was closed. I am also looking forward to hearing updates about this. I think the moderator made a mistake and thought you were asking about the protests and not the strike. Why he/she thought your answer was in this thread is beyond me ATM.

Something new, something not thought of, and not socialism and communism, which are words people keep running to when they encounter anything they do not like.

It's kind of the point, discuss, and make a system that works for the betterment of society instead of, as i said, the top of the pyramid.

Capitalism isn't a bad thing. It helps a country grow. That is what we need right now. America needs to grow. The biggest 'Country' in the entire world is Bankopia with it's capital, Bankberg. Driven by the greed of huge corporate business owners. Yes, Capitalism is what caused those big corporate monopolies, but Capitalism is also what fueled the Industrial Age which helped America prosper and become the big world power it is today, minus the greed and corruption.

Here's a Mercury News article from within the last few hours - probably lots of buzz on Twitter about it today, but I haven't checked it since forgetting my password months ago... hopefully someone in Oakland can give an update from on the ground.

I think your thread asking for updates on the strike should have stayed open too, for what it's worth. But I understand there's a lot of OWS threads cluttering things up right now.

Exactly, its not bad at all. Its only bad when the beast is let off the leash, to run wild in the financial system, and take advantage of everything they can on the way, and make as many profits as they can.
Why cant people just accept the system is broken, all the info is there, all the facts are there, then how come people still say its the best thing ever?

It -was- the best thing ever, before they jacked the throttle of the freight train, and now there is no stopping it

It's just the Corpocracy I have a problem with. Our system of governance now is more indicative of Feudalism than anything else. Unfair banking practices distort the otherwise fine notion of capitalism. They make, on average 375% on the life of 30 year mortgages. This, by mathematical nature increases the gap between the ultr-wealthy and the rest of us by the measure of 54% per year, every year.

Furthermore, these loans are granted, not from Capital (as true capitalism requires), but from fabricated money borrowed from the Fed at an average rate of 3-5% depending when you look at it. This gives the largest banks a skimming percentage of about 370% on your standard 30 year mortgage. Additionally, this same strategy is employed across all other types of loans as well, netting various amount of skimming percentages on fabricated capital. That's not capitalism.

Capitolism makes the rich richer and the poor poorer. That's what it's designed to do.
Russias' sucess with their space program during the cold was under a communist government. Chinas current economic sucess and technoligical sucess is also under a communist government.
Large portions of americans technology has been developed by foreign scientists. Let's stop pretending that capitolists america is the saviour of the world.
Capitolism will bring about global economic collapse.

Also, looks like truthout is updating their coverage through the day - they're reporting a pretty significant wildcat strike at the Port of Oakland.

Communism didn't get Russia into outer space, Sergei Korolev and his team of fantasticly smart scientists did.
Communism didn't get China to where it is technologically, their scientists did.
Economic systems don't affect either of these things

And when you remove personal incentive you get poverty. That is why soviet Russia went broke and people on welfare stay on welfare.

i think it's sad that you need incentive to do good. materialism has done this to us. arrogance has done this too us. pride has done this to us. the real enemy is inside each and everyone of us.

Its not about doing "good" im talking about going to work. Why would you put a bunch of effort into something if you got rewarded the same as if you did nothing?

Not a single one of the countries you mentioned there was truly communist. In fact, there's never been a properly communist nation. Each and every one that claims to be communist is really practicing a socialist (barely) dictatorship. In a Marxist communist system, there is no government.
