If people put something into their bodies thats going to cause damage then people should take notice and if its going to effect society(us all, which alcohol does)then it becomes everyones business.

Bizarre thread.

How can you ban something that people can make in their kitchen without any out of the ordinary ingredients?

Alcoholic drinks are actually vey good for the human body, depending on what the drink is though. A glass of wine every day will do a person a lot of good.

Milk and Red Wine

Many problems in life can be avoided if you have some self control. What are you a tyrant?

I agree, I have seen the damage it does first hand here in the UK.

The psychological problems it creates is ignored, how can you tell people something is bad for you when at the same time you then condone and legalise Alcohol and all the destruction it causes.

Legalised drug taking by the masses, the UK is a nation of drunks, period.

I have no problem with people drinking in the comfort of their own home but I have a problem with the growing number of young people who become drunks in Universities (because it's cool) and then binge drink regularly in the wider world until one day they decide to bottle someone randomly in the street putting that person in hospital.

How many important decisions have been made under the influence of alcohol...it IS a problem however it's also at the point now where you can't get rid of it without causing an uproar - all or nothing unfortunately.

If you guys want a wake up call, this is very sobering:

helpjacqui.com...

I have followed Jacquelines recovering on and off for a number of years, I made a promise to never touch the stuff ever.

I can bet a number of people on here who have been drunk and driven home because it was convenient at the time, we all do stupid things but stuff like this gives you a reality check.

I guess you didn't read my post either. Your mind is made up and you're not going to change it, neither is the majority of opinion so no need to keep arguing! We agree to disagree.

do you blame the crowbar for a burglary
do you blame the bicycle for speeding
do you blame the bullet for a murder

the list can go on ,

i recall one night i was talking to a friend who kept on saying he had an alcohol problem
he went on and on how its an illness/sickness and the basic 12 step jabber this jabber that ,

at one point i just had to ask him how on earth he could say it was a sickness/illness

he replied its one in the sence that once he starts drinking he had a hard time quitting ,

i told him your just weak and blaming things for your own problems , problems you have with your self like self control.

he went on that yes he could understand what i was saying but continued to blame his problems on alcohol

i then told him consider this , you have the flu today can you just stop having the flu tomorrow just by quitting the flu ?
he said no ,
ok you have a problem with drinking to much how do you prevent that problem i continued
he said by drinking less or not at all ,

i then said do you see the flaw in your logic , its not an illness or sickness as you say , its a mentality issue

you dont blame the crowbar you blame the burglar
you dont blame the bike you blame the cyclist
you dont blame the bullet you blame shooter

You have to know what things will cause problems in your life. Many people drink and never have alcohol problems and i like to have a drink now and then but other people would develop a hook from it so if they think they would be hopelessly addicted then stop before it really sinks its teeth in you. Does not mean we have to ban it across the board though and even if you wanted to it is so easy to make drainable alcohol right in your own house...they make it in prison fairly easily. Of course does not mean it will taste good or is not lethal.

Oh, so you think the Gov has the right to legally prohibit me from fermenting the food of the land, or the grapes, or hops or create alcohol?

NOT ON MY WATCH. I DONT DRINK EITHER. And the other topic you don't want brought up, to me their laws regarding it are absolute crimes against humanity and would be overturned if all the people who feel that way, no matter percentage, as I know very well its significant enough. Even 10% would do, stood up and said no way!

There are many laws, bills, statutes, from use of your own property, hanging clothes on a clothelines, whether you can decide to turn your own land into an eco farm and make it multi dwellings. Running you business your own home in any zoning. There are many many crimes agaisnt humanity. And I won't comply with anyone trying to force me to obey or stand under their fascist control. I won't rape or murder you. There are other things I won't do., but your ability to control me is on very fragile ground.

Well let me try this again: YES! there are plenty of things the US government does not allow you to posess natural or not. So why are you not complaining about those things. Yes even certain VITAMINS are not even legal for you to posess. Prescription medicine you must have a PRESCRIPTION! Maybe they could make you have a prescription for alcohol huh

In the 1st Pub I worked at an old boy used to come in with a prescription which allowed him to get a pint of Guinness every day on the NHS, yeah it was quite a while ago, he must off had a Iron problem. we used to send the Presciption to the local NHS office and they would send us the money. lol

I think it should be legal, just like anything that isn't synthetical produced should be. However, once it causes the proven problems that you've stated, just like over the counter sinus meds that people make Meth out of, it should be monitored. So that you cannot buy x amount a day everyday... as this would show some type of problem. Unless of course you were a facility like a bar or whatever, for special functions i.e. weddings parties.. then at that point it should be their responsibility to maintain the rule of limits, and make sure noone is leaving behind the wheel of a vehicle. It's sad when we cannot be responsible enough citizens that this would even be an issue in the first place. I know there are holes that can be punched in my "idea" of how to have alcohol but treat it as the dangerous drug it can be. I just wanted to respond quickly to the thread and honestly don't have any better ideas of how to keep it legal while eliminating the problems it causes.

You should brush up on US history. Prohibition was a glorious failure and it's a proven fact that when alcohol is banned, alcohol consumption and abuse rises. It's human nature.....

Notice that it says "illegal"
If it was illegal, we would not be having this conversation.

The person calling for banning alcohol and telling other people not to post is calling me a tyrant? Well anything goes on the internet, i suppose. You ever get even just a little power you would surely abuse it.

I completely agree with you. I have seen alcohol do serious damage to folks lives. BUT they have the choice to buy it or not.The decision to consume it lies solely with the individual. If it's illegal, they will make it themselves.

And not a single person has a right to say one damn word. Period. I myself do not drink at all, my wife on the other hand has a glass of wine with dinner every night, and maybe a glass or two after... I myself have never bought into the" addiction is a disease concept".

The "addiction is a disease concept" came about in the late 70's . Prior to that insurance did not pay for re-hab. Then the law was changed and the " addiction is disease concept" became the norm. And up sprouted hundreds of "for profit re-habs" gladly accepting most major medical plans. It's all one big business.
