Judge William Adams beats daughter for using the Internet

To members here who were also victims of this type of abuse, this is addressed to you.

I too, was physically hit etc as a child.

When I have reflected on it, I can see times where I may have deserved to be reprimanded, & only a couple of times where I deserved the hidings I got.

As I got older I even thought it was 'ok' to hit a child -the typical "My old man did it to me & I turned out ok".

But its not. See if I'm really honest, I will tell you that it made me feel worthless. Actually much more than worthless.
I felt unlovable, wicked, evil, hated, wrong & just about every other vile emotion a child can feel towards themselves.

I developed anorexia as a teen, & hated the sight of myself. I believed it was ok for the rest of the world to be less than ok, but not for me. I had to be perfect.

My point is that beatings like this change who you are inside. That changes the person you grow into in your future, which ultimately dictates the life you end up leading.
While I acknowledge not every child will be as scarred as me to adversely affect their future, the fact is there are far too many like me that it does/did.

All of it avoidable.

Recently, the news aggregator site Reddit made a certain, disturbing video front page, revealing the dark secrets of Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams. As fast as you could blink an eye, a Facebook page was created dedicated to preventing the judge's re-election. In just a few hours, the page has gotten more than 200 "Likes," and more people are joining in spreading the word.
It appears that the 2004 video of the vicious beating was saved for a time when Hillary Adams felt it was best: election time. According to the Facebook page, "Don't Re-Elect Judge William Adams," he is up for re-election next week. Recently, Ms. Adams reportedly had an argument with her father over the phone, at which point she decided to release the video of the vicious beating (you can watch the video here).

The reason behind the leather belt beating was simple: Judge Adams caught his teenage daughter downloading videos and games illegally from the Internet. Now, reasonable people would have simply taken away Internet privileges or grounded her. Not so, Judge Adams. In the 7-plus-minute video, he can be seen repeatedly hitting her with the belt, threatening to strike her across the face with it, and even forces his now-ex-wife to get in a few licks.

who cares if the daughter has held onto it and used it at this time. It doesn't mean it didn't happen, and it doesn;t mean that this sick asshole shouldn't be charged with child abuse. And it should definatly affect his career, and I hope it does, in as severe a negative way as possible.

When an adult or even parents have to result to beating their children they have lost all control of being a parent and knowing how to communicate properly.

Most of the time it is just adults anger being taken out, instead of knowing how to communicate, so the next time her parents lie or do something wrong she can get the belt out and show them.

Do you even know how Math works? If 1 in 4 are victims then the logical conclusion or guess would be that 1 in 4, at best, probably, are abusers.

That's 25% at best. And that's going with the claims that in 1 in 4 are abused, which I doubt.

That is why we do not have cameras in peoples house. Because you cannot punish or make guilty or suspect the majority for the crimes of the minority.

Thats got nothing to do with the topic, deflection is a poor, poor tactic.

All that judge achieved was making himself look like a right prick while I bet the daughter hates him and still downloads stuff as violence just turns children against you.

Beating kids means youve just lost the right to inflict your opinions on them, this is totally different to smacking a naughty child once to let them know something they did is not ok.

What gets me is, that her parents obviously didn't
take away the computer since it was still running to record

I didnt see any blood. I didnt see the teenager limping away in agony. She is a liar, a thief, a cheat? I think she will recover and when shes an adult, like most of us who have known the belt, she will be a productive citizen in society.
Its parents who give up, who have the children who turn out to be loosers. It not like this was a small child. Small children should not be beaten. Teenagers on the other hand are a whole different breed. Think about what kind of monster a teenager can be before you judge the judge.

I have never posted here before and am only doing so now because of this video and the IGNORANT people that truly believe that how a child is diciplined is none of anybodys business but those in the family. I WAS beaten like this as a child and worse. As an adult today (45) and a business owner with employees in good standing with the community in which I live I can state for a fact that there is NEVER a reason to EVER beat a child like this. No I am not an upstanding citizen today because my father beat me. In fact just the opposite. I had to go through YEARS of counseling to undo what my family did to me. I still hate my parents and have made the choice to NEVER see them again. I havent seen them in 12 years now. Yes there were times I deserved punishment but NEVER like this. There are other ways to punish a child. This idiot of a man is constantly cursing in front of his young daughter and expects her to be perfect. So what if she was playing a game. Playing a game online in direct conflict with parents gets you beaten like this??? If the judge were to appear before me now I would teach him some dicipline. I would beat his a$$ bloody. No child deserves this and if you think they do or that we have no right to judge or get in their business you are too much of an idiot to EVER have children. I PRAY FOR THIS GIRL AND I PRAY HER MOTHER AND FATHER BOTH GO TO JAIL FOR A VERY LONG TIME!

I'm not so sure I disagree with you. But I have also seen firsthand what happens when the system gets involved in cases like this. For every one case CPS does the right thing, there are ten more where they did nothing but destroy a family.

While I do not approve of how this man handled the situation, there's a fine line between abuse, and the total destruction of this girls life that CPS would likely have caused.

On the other hand. I wouldn't mind giving him a little personal instruction on parenting in person.

We are not saying what is right for someone else's family, but rather what is wrong, and what is the line not to cross.
This dad here is not punishing or correcting his daughter, he is assaulting her, injuring her.
Most of rapist and other sexual assaulters had a childhood depraved of love and were abused during their childhood.
Don't know how this dad usually reacts, but this video (if not fake) tells me that this is not the first nor the last time he is assaulting her.
Abd the mum should be ashamed for not intervening earlier.

I just learned that this girl was caught downloading illegal copies of music and other media, which is AGAINST THE LAW.

Now, just putting myself in the position of the parent for a moment...if this were my child, and I was an authority in the public judicial system, I would be livid. My kid just jeopardized my entire life's work, not once but SEVERAL times! Just think about that for a moment.

I'm one of those parents that will put the fear of God in my kids ONLY in matters of life and death or things that could escalate as they get older and put them in jail. I don't mind for one moment, giving them severe consequences at a young age to steer them in the right direction.

Now, how he spoke to her was wrong. How he lost control was wrong. I'm not excusing that, but technically, it's not abuse. However, she was BREAKING THE LAW!!! For him to be the judge, that's a serious issue within a family.

Possibilities to consider before passing judgment....

1. Is this guy the step parent? If so, for how long? This girl could have been the typical terror child who never accepted the step parent, or even hated him. We don't know the history here of what led up to this.

2. It was reported that the Mother left on grounds of abuse from him...eh, I'm not sure I buy that either. It appears to me the Momma raised a wild child, because she herself is one, and didn't like discipline in the house at all. Where's the proof of abuse?

3. Lots of claims being made here, and virtually no proof or answers to these questions. So therefore, in my mind, there is no case for the jury to be in session, because the prosecutor in this case is only giving a limited view of the story.

If you all want to pass judgment so badly, learn the rules first. You'd be terrible in a court of law, sitting in a jury with your peers.

I know a few people who have been beaten severely by their parents during youth. All of them left their homes as soon as possible and most cancelled the contact to their parents from that moment on completely. Thats what you get when you´re more interested in bashing your own children than caring about their problems. Don´t know how you can come up with this "i spent most of my youth in hospital because father beat me up and thats why i grew up to become a good person and love my parents" crap. If i would get beaten by someone regularly i´d also hate them. Fearing them too much to say this in their face may be another question though.

I have no idea who this guy is but, I can tell you, the things I'd like to do with him are most likely illegal with a heavy jail sentence in most of the civilized world. I am all for disciplining children. A good spanking once in a while would really help alot of kids these days but THIS? This is over the top and uncalled for. The way he is speaking to her? And belting her? He is not even making sure the strikes are on the @ss! What ever happened to turning your kid over your knee and swatting their backside with your hand? 1-2-3 swats and thats it! That's what my parents did to me when I was really bad. There was no yelling, no cussing or demeaning words just a simple explanation of what I did wrong and a spanking! No wonder we can't discipline our kids anymore! Cause of people like this who don't know the difference between a spanking and a beating. I hope this @sshole burns in hell.

Sounds like he had a lot of practice saying this.... OH wait... he's a judge... that's right.... Let' rephrase this and find out what he really means....

Those look like the parents that never had a say in anything when they were growing up and now want to take it out on their children. Despicable...

And to everyone saying "Oh we shouldnt interfere w/ their life" There is a fine line between a spanking for punishment and beating,,,, and they blew past that line.
