should we all have a cameras in our homes that the governement can see what we are doing so that the governement can police us properly?

My personal opinion is that this b*stard needs to be taken out, beaten with a belt while being told to get on his stomach and "take it like a grown woman." Mom (was that lady mom?), too. I wonder if he felt like a real man when he was done.

But with that opinion aside, I'm having a hard time understanding their rationalization for beating her so bad to begin with for such a stupid thing. My whole thought on this is if she wasn't supposed to be using the internet and was doing so against the rules...wouldn't the rational and common-sense thing be to take away the child's computer and/or internet access for a while? Why did she have internet in the first place if she wasn't supposed to be using it? I was never hit when I was a kid, so I can't rationalize how beating a child will ever make them respectful or compliant.

I mean, that's what I do. If I set a rule and it's broken--I make it impossible to break the rule. If I can't make it impossible to break the rule, I make it so they don't want to ever break the rule again by taking another privilege away or grounding them, taking away television or whatever. It works pretty well.

The old saying is "spare the rod, spoil the child," but if you've got good parenting skills, you wouldn't need a rod in the first place.

Wow... I'm almost speechless. That's torture you can tell he's getting off on it. That's hardcore. I thought I had it baddest with 3 slaps from the paddle.

Because explaining the effects of saying that to ones face in public is different to threatening him.

Got it... That's why I am still here. I know it grinds at you

So I will smile

No, but we should have laws in place that make beating your children illegal.

Should we all live in a lawless society and murder and rape each other derpity derp?

Exactly right. I was once grounded without TV and computer for 4 months
I can assure you i'd have happily taken a few hits with a belt come the end of week 1

that sounds like "fair" discipline, theres no comparing it legally to what happened in the video, just absolute senseless idiocy.

where do you draw the line.

why should there not be cameras in every home so that people do not get away with horrible crimes like this.

if there were cameras in every home this crime would be halted immediately

Because it would be an invasion of privacy and a punishment to the vast majority of law abiding citizens. I think maybe that's why.

I do care, we all should.

But not enough to go mess with these people over it.

We need to find balance between the extremes.

Now you're trying to save face, let's just quote what you said about it

I am sorry but this kid in the video is the least of my worries. It's way over-blown.

That's for those who missed it so you're attempts to make people side with you don't work...

You're arguments and debates are flawed. violence against children isn't tolerated. And these parents should lose custody.

He wouldn't last a day in jail with the inmates knowing who he is and what he done... We get that you want him to get off scot free, have is day in court... It's easy to accept his day will come. If it hasn't already.

I didn't see any real abuse here.
Real abuse wouldn't even be postable on ATS because it would break the T+C.

I understand fully that I am totally outnumbered and am going up against a brick wall here.
But I am used to that.

I am not here to win your favor, I am here to show how contradictory and hypocritical people really are.
I refuse to join in on this anti-parent agenda.

Why isn't anyone talking about the Child Abuse the Govt commits when it bombs nations to rubble arbitrarily over lies? Oh yeah, because everything the govt does is justified.

Actually, I completely agree with you. I was an abused child. I'm not cold to it...quite the contrary. I raised my children completely opposite, but I do discipline. NEVER though, how I was disciplined!!

I can't help but wonder, just like every other video that goes viral and elicits a knee-jerk emotional outrage, if it is real or fake. If it IS real, how the hell did it get on the web? There's an agenda here, and are we to believe a girl with cerebral palsy is the one with the agenda? If not, then whose agenda? And why? I think those questions are probably far more serious than the superficial ones everyone is entertaining. I certainly don't like how they spoke to her.

I will say this...anyone with the proper "clearance" can tap into ANY cell phone, any computer or any webcam at any time, regardless if you're using them or not. If they are "on", then the devices can be used on the other end at will by those with the power to do so. No one is perfect, but I tell you what...everyone needs to be darn humble and think back about what they've done or said in the presence of their phones or pc's before passing judgment.

But I totally agree with you. At worst, if the public pushes this, then maybe the parents should be forced to go to parenting classes with the daughter so that they can heal their family and learn to communicate better, but even that is crossing the line and opening the door to having the government define how parents should or should not discipline their kids. (Not entirely sure that's a bad thing to set a "standard", but to enforce it is an entirely other issue.) This publicity can't be making things any better, that's for sure.

vast majority of law abiding citizens. really.

you should spend some time with social workers.

this is not a pretty planet you are living on. its a dark place.

it is believed 1 in 4children suffer sexual abuse. most cases by a family member or someone they know.

1 in 4. do you have any idea of the numbers we are talking about here. seriously.

This guy is a judge from Arkansas

The girl taped the event not the government

It would stand up in court. No warrant needed when it's the victims own setup.

So people can stop the whole government invasion of privacy debate. Get back to the kids welfare.

And what about the other little girl Madison is she in safe custody now??!

lol semantics, she used the internet she got a beating.
Even cosidering beating someone with a belt for using the internet is indicative of isanity, defending the beating or attempting to with semantics is nothing short of lunacy, the beating itself shows some sort of rage disorder.
Why try and defend it at all?.
Parental rights? show me a just parent in that video and they can have the rights.

We are all responsible for eachother damn it! Someone else is your responsibility no matter how much a stranger! "Not my responsibily" thinking is what is driving us all appart.....Helping or trying to help a child if you see him/her get beat up is not a crime, unless maybe in US you can get sued for it. Compassion and caring is what needs to dominate, but if you tell others that "ohh yeah, I am caring and compasionate" and yet you stand and say its not my responsibility then you are lying to yourself!!
There are many other alternate methods to punish a child and violence should never ever be used! She can get mental damage for the rest of her life.......

This happened in 2004, nothing can really be done about it now. Other than ruining any happiness her parents still have in life by relentless public outrage.
