OPEN YOUR EYES for goodness sakes people! These places really exist! They are like a mini Soviet Union, the way everything is ran there. The people don't know the world exists out side of North Korea, only a lucky few have tasted freedom.

Yeah this stuff has been happening for decades anyone who does not beleive this don't know what to say.

The camps and other camps that the military use the women for whatever they want and then toss them aside it's not a leap that they would eat their own children hell starving people will eat anything.

Don't see a lot of pets running around in North Korea do you?

But you can't deny there is an extreme difference.
Hussein was a bad guy. He killed innocent people, on purpose. We're supposed to be the good guys, we kill innocent people, on accident. But a lot of innocent people on accident. People are still dead by our hands. Yet we shrug off responsibility and point the finger at someone else.

You say that no human mother would kill and eat their own child and you are right. At the point at which they killed ate their own children they had lost what made them human. They were no long human but an crazed hungry animal. At a point such that they did not know right from wrong. They may not even know much of anything. The only thing that makes us humans different from the lower animals is our higher brain functions. Once we lost that either from injury or mental stress or something then we are on the same level as every other animal on this planet and maybe even lower than that. Those woman will have mental problems for the rest of their lives and will never truly get back what human part of their minds that were lost.

There have been many great comments here on this thread. It's hard to imagine any mother ever doing such a thing. I think when the SHTF we will see some of our neighbors and loved ones, maybe even ourselves, behaving in ways we never would have imagined.

Please USA and NATO, help us by invading the country and assassinating the Kim's ASAP

if you read the article, it states that she didn't kill herself because there is always someone watching, and each prisoner is assigned to watch 4-5 others. they will all alert guards so as not to get in trouble for anything out of order.

But somehow people were boiling and butchering children in the prison population and the guards never noticed? I know that plantation owners kept logs of their slaves, what's the deal?

If this is the situation, would the prisoner-watchers not have also notified the guards when one of the people they were assigned to watch would have been either killing or being killed in what I can only assume to be an obvious and brutal death, as I don't see prisoners having the benefits of a head-shot or clean decapitation.

Remember the Kuwaiti babies being taken out of incubators by Iraqi troops? Nothing pulls at heartstrings like innocent children dying. Emotional Warfare.

As much as I dispise Kim, and as much as this story horrifies me, it is not the job of the US to do anything. I would say that if South Korea wanted to do something about it and asked for our help in taking NK, I think I would have to support that on humanitarian grounds.

It is surreal to think that there are people in the world who live under the type of rule that Daffy Duck and his Gang of Whackadoos exert over these people.

Just remember, as bad as things get here sometimes, at least we aren't North Korea...

Shocking yes, however not as shocking as watching your infant being brutalized and gang raped to death. These Mothers had more instinct and compassion, empathy for their children than anyone can imagine, at least this is what I suspect.

This would take great courage.

The children were born of rape and would die of the same in captivity, or worse.

These Mothers deserve our hearts compassion and prayers.

My God, I can't even begin to imagine how horrible that must have been for her, and the millions of other North Koreans who have suffered under the dictatorial regime. They must have been psychologically damaged in a tremendous way to lack the moral compass that most people have when it comes to protecting their children. I would think (read, "hope") that the instinct to protect one's children would override the instinct for self-preservation, but it seems that in this case, there was no hope.

I would cut off my own arm to feed my children, then my leg, then the other leg. Under no circumstances would I ever eat one of my own; but then again, I haven't suffered as they have, so I have no basis for comparison. I think most psychologically sound people would do the same. Living in one of those camps has to be like Hell on Earth.

My prayers go out to all of them.

So, I was kind of feeling bad for this lady, but here are a few concerns i have.

If was someone was always watching, why would they allow that mother to kill her 16 year old son? Was he sleeping? How did that go down?

Wouldn't a 16 year old male be more valuable than his mom? why would they let that happen?

While if this is true, I feel bad for them, but I'm sorry, something about this doesn't sound right. I'm calling propaganda on this one.

For people questioning how a mother could come to such a mode of thought to consume her own child, let's not forget that there is a following of the idea that things like telekinesis etc. are within human capability but few if any people have ever 'unlocked'/'reached' them - it's therefore very possible, by that same train of logic, that acts like this simply haven't been unearthed from the human mind by enough horror, deprivation and desperation.

As for questioning the actual veracity of this story - I do have to admit that NKorea stories go into a mental "TBC Pending Further Evidence" tray in my brain, as someone could come out with anything and we'd pretty much have to take their word for it given how locked-down the country is (unlike horror stories from China which, while alas far too many turn out to be based on truths/half-truths, seem to be able to be proven/disproven relatively quickly).

This is terrible on more than one level. I have recently read that if the leader of NK dies, the conditions will likely change, as a different form of government will be installed. I don't know if there is any truth in this statement, but it was something I read.

People think Gaddafi was bad, Kim Jong-II is a murderous lunatic. There was speculation on more than one occasion that he had died, but I doubt this is true. He is very sick though, suffering a stroke not too long ago, and so is probably on the verge of death.

Hopefully this will bring much needed change to the country. IMO this is the worst country, government-wise, on the planet. I cannot imagine going through what these people have endured. Having to eat your own children is insane, but I suppose it is a survival mechanism that most would utilize in a situation like that. 28 years? Wow, and I am willing to bet the offenses were either fabricated, or misdemeanors in any sane country. Unbelievable.

A pregnant woman will spontaneously abort her fetus if she is seriously malnourished, as the pregnancy than threatens the life of the mother. I can't believe people even believe this amateurish propaganda that is probably taken from some B-grade horror comic book.

With a wry smile I say you have not known extreme hunger. What about the Donner party eh? If you were there I bet you would have been the only holdout huh?

Let me tell you from experience, you would not be the same person when faced with starvation. Your body goes into survival mode and your cheap, oh so easily discarded, intellectual thoughts go right out the window. If you go out of your way to declare yourself above that fray my wry smile will widen.

I don't think anyone (myself included) who is saying this is propaganda is talking about the camps or the fact that North Korea is a pretty grim place or even the fact that camps exists.... it's more the crap about mothers eating their babies.

THAT is what people are calling propaganda.
