I don't normally tell anyone on ATS publicly, but so am I.
Fully transitioned by age 21. You never know who you're going to meet on the internets! This thread makes me sick though.

Thank you Tahnya86 and Evolutionsend.

For coming forward.

Incorrect.

We do not have the knowledge to answer that with any degree of certainty.

The only thing science knows about this hormone therapy is that it has worked on rats with no noticeable side effects. They will find out as the people using it age over time and they hope that it works as planned.

The unfortunate part of this type of science is that we never do know until after the fact. Just the nature of our current understanding of human physiology coupled with a much greater understanding of chemical composition.

We are still very very infantile in our study of the human brain. We are just starting to get a grasp on the architecture, we have yet to even start to understand how it works inside that architecture.

Doesn't help that it is one of the most 'unique per person' components of our being.

Science can't prove why some people are left handed either - - but they are. And they are born that way.

It's good that he's taking it right now, he will know before he reaches age 13. If he doesn't want to go through with it, he can stop taking it and he will develop normally. You all are very ignorant about this subject, and that's obvious. That makes me more skeptical of other subjects discussed here as well.

The title of ignorant should fall to those that claim to know what our scientists do not.

This is a therapy that was designed by a drug company to enact a specific goal. To that they have succeeded.

How this therapy will effect the development of a human in all aspects will be determined once persons have had the treatment and lived long enough to produce solid scientific data.

Basically, we will know, one way or the other, in 20 to 30 odd years.

Is it possible that the child may be a hermaphodite and needs to choose between one sex or the other?

I always knew growing up in a same sex environment could potentially have an effect on their sexual preference

No, it couldn't. In the same way a daughter growing up with a single mother does not, even potentially, have a chance of turning in a lesbian because of it.

Very possible.

Unfortunately the decision has routinely been made by parents or doctors upon birth. Long before the child can have any say.

This is a prime example of why gays shouldn't be allowed
to adopt children. The children could become confused with
the lifestyle choice made by their "parents",both 1 and 2.

Did we wait 30 years for the Salk vaccine?

Everything is a risk. Sometimes the risk is worth it to the one taking it.

FYI:

For those thinking that the parents are forcing this upon him, I will agree that the possiblilty is there, but highly unlikely.

They have raised and male to adulthood already.

Well written. It's funny to me if one was to search this site alone they would find threads on how pharmaceutical companies lie as a matter of practice about drug studies for the sake of getting their products on the market as fast as possible. How can anyone speak with absolute assurance this child taking puberty blocking hormones won't suffer some irreversible damage later?

Sometimes they are and I do sincerly hope for this childs sake that the potential risks never appear.

But, we must never dismiss the real risks or the potential risks. It is only through constantly analyzing the risks that we can hope to save an persons that do encounter them.

Annie I see you're passionate about this and I respect that. We're talking about a child who may not understand those unseen risks, it's the parents who are risking this child health and that's not fair. Parents are suppose to protect their children not to assist them in unnecessary risk taking.

These "parents" were so desperate to have a girl that they convinced this poor kid to want to be one.

Sick.

Annee, Evolutionsend, Tahnya86 THANK YOU. Before I read this thread and your responses I honestly thought that transgender and homosexual people were normal people who just thought differently than me and kind of thought it was cool in that aspect. You people and your insight here has changed my mind. Reading your responses and your "logic" and your science on this subject has 110 percent convinced me that this is not normal, its not just a way of life, it is a form of mental disability and I feel sorry for you people. I wish I could get you some help honestly, you are sick and it saddens me. My mind is now made up on this subject, these mentally ill parents are horribly screwing up an innocent little BOY. They should be put in jail for child abuse and he should be put in a foster home. I now know that homosexual and tranny people should NEVER be allowed to have children for any reason and I think I need to find a way to lobby against this or at the very least find a way for the children here in Houston not to be abused in this manner. I now know it is even worse than actually beating a child, bruises go away.....no dick doesn't and that is what you people would actually do to this kid. I am done with this thread because the thought of an abused child pisses me off almost as much as the sick people who abuse them and I feel I need to go actually DO something about this instead of writing about it on a website.

Thank you for your posts - - I find them very respectful.

But I don't agree. Did you read the article from Slate that I posted?
www.slate.com...

This is not a boy deciding he wants to be a girl. This is a transgender (or preferred word).

It is ingrained in these children down to the core of their being. He is a girl in a boys body. He is not a boy trying to be a girl.

People have to get out of their society programmed boxes of "boy/girl".

This is a being where the "soup" got mixed up differently.

If you can't get out of your head - - - and at least try to get in theirs - - - you'll never understand.

I agree.

Did you know some people think Fibromyalgia is related to Polio. Could the virus have laid dormant in the body and kicked in when conditions were just right? Could it be a latent reaction to the vaccine? Who knows. But for the most part - - modern medicine has been beneficial - - despite all the controversy. There will always be risks.

I'm a very respectful person and I don't like being rude to people, but I'm finding it a little hard not to in response to your post. It reeks of ignorance. I can understand coming to conclusions based on information, but your WHOLE opinion changed on a subject due to a post on a forum? One post made you condemn an entire population and fueled your desire to send them all to jail and take away their children? Really?
Do a little research. Some real research of your own and then if you still feel the same way I can accept and respect your opinion. Not that you need/want my acceptance or respect, because I don't need anyone else's but still...

Not really. Trans and hermaphrodite are not the same thing.

However current recommendations are "leave it alone" - - let the child decide.

And that recommendation comes strongly from those children who were altered by their parents/doctors decision.

Just more bashing of gay parents. Leave their family alone and let them do what they want to do. Who are you to judge someone for who they are anyway?
