I agree with socialism but I don't agree with being micro-managed. If you want something from me, give me something first and I'll gladly do the work to help out. Give me nothing and say I'll get something later, is the typical scam this system does to us so I am NEVER going to agree to that. I won't pay with 40 hours a week either. No more than 20 and that includes no need to work for any other purpose till things get comfy and stable, then I think that number should gradually go down, until machines do ALL of the work for us. Same dream as the elites but minus the eugenics.

The reason the cops are called out is because downtown NY is pretty much THE busiest place on the planet. If the protests are blocking traffic - both vehicular and pedestrian - then effective operation of the city itself stops.

While I may or may not empathize with the protestor's agenda, this is just a blitz to try and gain as much media attention as possible.

What exactly are you even protesting? There seems to be no consistant agenda or actual action the protests would like. It's ideologues and/or board youth that have no jobs just "protesting" Wall Street?

WTF is that exactly? What is the point? "We want rich people to know we're not going to take it anymore"?

What about the poor single mom who's a receptionist for Mr. Wall Street but can't get to work because you're blocking the streets?

Better yet, why isn't this happening in Washington DC? Why not march on the White House? They're the ones that "bailed out Wall Street" after all? They took your money and gave it to the "rich" people...

I'm also sick of hearing whiny girly men and chicks screaming like they're being skinned alive every time a cop gets near them with their iPhone camera rolling.

"Occupy Wall Street" = "Board Attention Whores" looking for YouTube hits.

Gawd the ignorance of some people. Some of We the People protest is about greedy elites, but it goes much deeper. Are you that blinded by your party? We are tired of them spending our money and the few who still have work are worked to death, we are tired of not working, we are tired of government stimulus to the elites, which is comming from the poor, ya the poor are further lining your pockets dammit. We are tired of agenda 21, tired of police britality, tired of total govenrmetn control. If ya actually listened to We the People you would nto had made this thread. Instead of giving money all over the glo be how about giving it here in the usa to those of us who actually worked for it?? im wrong for wanting my money to stay in america, for the common people? no Im not wrong. They are wrong. this protest is much more wider in reasoning then the you`s coudl even begin to concieve. we are tired of the you`s/top 1%. we 99% definately out number the top we dont work they dont get payed, period. sad? Im happy this finally is unfolding...go america,

Isn't there already a well organized movement that wants an end to out of control spending and government waste and control?? Why another?

And I must say, threads like this prove ATS has turned into little more than a right-wing lovefest.

I agree, sadly. They even post threads in favor of right wing extremism thinking we're all here to agree with them.

It's all about being anti-establishment. A little game so to speak for many of these people. They don't truly believe what they spew, they just are against the dominant group of the day. Once they get their GOP savior in ATS will swing back to the left and we will get no where-As usual.

I have followed this movement with interest; but I have always been questioning who is controlling of them? In this world, all REAL members of ATS know to question this (or so I thought).

Why the long debate here in this enlightened forum? Who is for the OWS and who against?

At any rate [you can draw your own conclusion], guess who also shows up at the rally:

1. www.youtube.com...

2. dailycensored.com...

Enough said.

Moore shows up at rallies to keep his street cred. It doesn't mean anything about the movement as a whole. It's kinda like Palin showing up at a Tea Party rally, all the smart people know she's just posing.

You'll have to fill me in on what's wrong with those 2. I enjoy their work. I especially like TV Nation and Rocky Horror.

If protests (in general) didn't have some sort of impact, then what good is the protest???? If people protested, but it affected NOTHING, they (protests) would always be futile. People could protest until they are blue in the faces and no one would care because everything continues working exactly as it should for those who aren't protesting: government is not affected, wall street is not affected, those people trying to get to work are not affected, etc.

You take away people's entertainment, they pay attention. You disrupt their lives, they pay attention. You (hopefully) hit wall street where it matters most ($), it pays attention. Same with government, etc.

Protest is ABOUT disruption, for that is how to begin to change the status quo, the way things are--which is what is being protested.

It has to affect people and institutions to get their ATTENTION so people will start to change things. That is the point.

Can this be done peacefully. In theory, yes.

And that right there is the problem. The people who actually believe that any form of real, true socialism is the answer, and not libertarian capitalism, always show up to this kind of protests and rallies. How can capitalism be the problem when we essentially don't have a truly capitalist economy at the moment? We have a corrupt plutocratic corporate state, and socialism ain't gonna fix that because a corrupt oligarchy will lead to a really bad socialist corporate state when people lose their jobs and need government assistance.

People in the USA have a constitutional right to protest, and once in a great while, if it disturbs the so called working masses, thank the protesters because they have just exercised the 1st amendment of highest law in our land.

Sometimes whining about the whiners is a bit hypocritical.

Dear, I am a lady in my 50s, I have been around long enough to see what America has become, I am into history, politics and finances,I am beyond arrogant I am more of a realistic, and perhaps I missed your point or misinterpret your post, but this thread is too long for me to start from the beginning.

then from one old fart to another ... where did Goldman originate?
hint: it wasn't Wall Street or the FR.
**** your research is missing a few centuries.

typical ... rather research the problem yourself ... you prefer to quote the words of a "pundit" ... just typical.
thank goodness i'm only old ... at least i haven't reached the old & lazy factor just yet.

please, re-read your own excerpt ... if that isn't classic "sacrifice pawn" to save the king, you really should learn the game.

And IF Goldman is sacked (pun intended), another head of the hydra simply takes it place ... i thought you said you've "observed" some of history in the making ... by your commentary, it seems as though your observations are rather limited to the polarizing glass of the local library.
maybe a field trip to the Library of Congress would be a good start.

Between my husband and I, we have 3 degrees and each month we still struggle to pay our bills on time. That is the problem with this country right now. You can work your butt off in college and still not be able to find a good paying job. There needs to be more job opportunities...that is what needs to change. Greed is why this country is in the mess it's in. I hate to be negative, but do you really think that anything will change? In the photos, there was a sign that said, "Live simply so we can simply live." These people that you protest are not going to change their luxurious lifestyles and live simply...because they simply don't give a sh*t how we live. If things do change, I will be shocked. I do have hope. But people can't live off hope, so I do commend the people who are out there protesting. Good luck, and be safe.

That was my point! If we continue on the current path, it will only get worse and lead to real socialism! Either that or they'll have to start shooting people in the streets when they're cold and hungry and armed.

Dear the scholar comes from research and giving away links to information that are worth it anybody can get one if you post more on the informative threads than opinionated ones
I have been here in ATS for a long time, I do have an opinion once in while.

so which part of "self-professed" am i misunderstanding?
many contribute to all kinds of threads ... doesn't make your contributions correct or overtly important ... after all, it is just an opinion.

the facts, speak for themselves. they require no cheerleaders, no side-line activists pushing an agenda, no paid mouthpieces and certainly, an individual investigation easily separates the wheat from the chaff.

even i didn't dismiss your "presumed status" ... i simply inferred the correlation of scholars presenting slanted information ... nothing new there either.

You think people are doing this because they don't want to work? are you kidding me?

If you're going to the trouble of posting here and making a statement then Explain It!
Word has it Moveon.org Hi-Jacked the demonstration along with other Obama supporting organizations. If these Morons demonstrating had half a brain and were really after the culprits they would be demonstrating at the Federal Reserve, that's what's ruining the whole financial system. All this demonstration is, is a gathering place for Facebook and Twitter idiots, take their I-Phones away from them and they'd all go home.
