No, dont bother watching the altitude on these sims.

The TLE orbital elements in the tracking websites and sim programs merely describe an orbit, they do NOT update continuously nor take into account atmospheric drag. The TLE's are not updated more than once every day or two.

When UARS reenters, you wont find out by watching ANY of the tracking websites, nor the sim running on your computer. You'll find out by watching news websites or twitter etc...
The tracking websites and sim programs can run forever using the obital data. They wont know it has come down.

Chuck Norris! Come on Man...you can do better than that
Jean Claude Van Dam is gonna Kick this thing all the way to South America
then Jackie Chan chimes in with his Drunken Monk style and totally demolishes this sucker sending it into the abyss of the Southern Ocean (Antarctica)

I really have no idea but that's my best guesstimate

Based on a little dip I think I see in its orbit, my best guess it it's coming down somewhere between Iran and Kazakhstan, or over the Atlantic if it waits longer.

I was reading the RSOE website and they said there was an event in space...

RSOE

Did it already land?

Meteor sighting by the sounds of it.

A fireball streaked across the Oregon sky Wednesday evening. Described as blue or green with a small tail, the object appeared shortly after 8 p.m. Reports of the sighting ran from Portland to Southern Oregon but seemed to be focused on the Central Willamette Valley and Central Oregon Coast. The object was also spotted streaking across the sky in Central-Eastern Oregon “From everything I’ve heard, it’s not a satellite -- short duration, moving fast, changing color and went out over the Pacific,” Dick Pugh of Portland State University’s Cascadia Meteorite Laboratory told KTVZ.

This is what I've read from that article. To me, why didn't they just say off the coast of Oregon? Much easier, and then apparently someone said that they heard it was not a satellite....... So how would they expect it was a satellite if they had no idea?

“From everything I’ve heard, it’s not a satellite -- short duration, moving fast, changing color and went out over the Pacific,”

I don't know, but it seems like it was the satellite. Someone is covering it up.......

Well I don't see why they would be covering up the satellite coming down, since they have been constantly providing updates on it.

If it landed in Oregon on land, people probably got injured. They just say it went off into the pacific, but RSOE says Central-Eastern Oregon.

A satellite is typically in view for four to six minutes.

While they can vary in brightness they don't display color.

Almost invariably (and definitely in the case of UARS) satellites travel in an easterly direction (SW-NE, NW-SE, W-E, S-SE). If the object was moving toward the Pacific it was moving west.

The description bears no resemblance to a satellite and every resemblance to a meteor.

Why don't they shoot it down over the ocean? Like they did when we were trying to strut our stuff to China not long ago?
I really don't know - I'm just now starting to follow the story.

I understand that Phage, and I respect your knowledge. Maybe the satellite didn't do what they expected it to do. They had no control of it what so ever, inertia took over.

That's right they have no control over it. It is under the control of the laws of physics. The laws of physics (including inertia) say it cannot travel from east to west.

UARS did not pass over Oregon at 8:00 last night and the latest update still says it will re-enter tomorrow afternoon.

Update #9
Thu, 22 Sep 2011 04:01:35 PM GMT-1000

As of 9:30 p.m. EDT Sept. 22, 2011, the orbit of UARS was 110 mi by 115 mi (175 km by 185 km). Re-entry is possible sometime during the afternoon or early evening of Sept. 23, Eastern Daylight Time. The satellite will not be passing over North America during that time period. It is still too early to predict the time and location of re-entry with any more certainty, but predictions will become more refined in the next 24 hours.

How exactly would 'inertia' cause the satellite to not only change direction but also location

Simple the outer parts of the satellite would break apart first, and it would look like they are going in different directions. The solid object in the middle which is probably the weight in the craft will continue toward the direction its going. Basically invisible shrapnel.
