I think they would like to be ready when the for when the poop hits the fan.
China pretty much owns the U.S. and when it's time to pay the piper it could lead to a messy situation.

I still cannot understand how 2 trillion dollars gives ownership of USA?

Care to explain por favor? I know its too late in the game to be asking this simple question.

I don't feel it gives ownership, but then again... I am not woed 2 trillion dollars!

China is an empire. For an empire to progress it must grow. Wouldn't be that much of a leap for them to decide to attack the united states in the event of a default.

Fear mongering scared Americans that cannot handle being not the number 1 of the world. American's talk about a balance of power and then criticise other's for rebalancing the power to be more balanced away from the USA's dominatnt position. If America doesn't want these places to develop this stuff, the US should stop doing it in the first place. Seriously, stop acting like spoilled children/brats and act EQUAL in the world not the BE ALL AND END ALL of it. If you want to act that way and be an American, do it in your own home, not ours.

Seems that way to me too.Its alright for amerika to build all sorts of weapons, but no one else can.
Amerika is a war mongering nation, their economy is war,the war is the economy.

yep yep

doesnt really matter us miliitary has been constructing emp proof systems for decades.

hell even airforce on is emp proof.

china problably stole the tech like they have done everything else i have yet see china come up with an original idea or system.

china and the us will never go to war as long as the cash train exists if it ever stops then war may loom.

the funny part here is under their form of government their citizens probably do think they invented everything they have thats what you can do when you control the flow of information in a country.

I read about the Assassin's Mace years ago for a paper I wrote in school. Pretty frightening. It was mentioned in a two part piece written for Asia Times by Victor N Corpus, retired brigadier general of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and former chief of the Intelligence Service, AFP. Funny/sad thing is, we're carrying out the first part of the battle plan on ourselves.

For anyone interested, they are long but well worth a read (especially Part 2):

Part 1: Striking the US where it hurts.

PART 2: The assassin's mace.

Why the hell is it being released NOW?

Poppycock.

Because the most feared weapon that can be used on the continental US is an EMP. It would do more damage to take out our infrastructure, than it would to drop a low yield nuke on a city. If our economy and infrastructure is gone, so is everything else. It would be like taking a step back into the early 1800's.

Thats true but i would think they would go after the power grid. probably take alot of emp missles to take outthewhole of the us.
I not going to worry about this
Sorry to burst your bubble, but it would only take 1 200 miles over Omaha Nebraska iirc. Personally; if I were China, Iran or North Korea, I would use 2. 1 over the East Coast and 1 over the West coast launched from tramp freighters outside of our territorial waters.

Most of our military electronics are shielded or hardened against EMP or microwaves.

In addition, emerging photonic circuits are completely immune to any form of ionizing radiation.

China would be better off trying to find a method to damage photonic circuitry.

When you have people like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that are creating nuclear weapons absolutely.. America should flex muscle upon leaders and countries that are trying to add more to the current problem, rather than being apart of the solution. I don't know where you're from but you sound like a foreign ATSer with an inferiority complex towards Americans because you're tired of seeing us as #1.. Seriously, stop acting like a jealous little school girl and act EQUAL in the world.. If you want to act that way and be a jealous foreigner, do it in your own home, not ATS.. I just think you need to practice what you're preaching.

That is such a poor argument.. America is far from perfect but we have helped out so many countries when they needed help. You hate us when we help, and hate us when we don't want to.. being the so called "big brother" to the world it's hard being in this position.. IMO if America stayed out of all the worlds drama and concentrated on our own you would be sorry.. you can argue that point all you want but you know it's true. Stop bashing America because even though I don't know where you're from i'm 200% sure you are probably worse off than we are.

What you have to think about is not our military, its everything else.

The US military is much too large to try to neutralize, so what do you do? Take out the Homefront. Two or three EMP's launched from low-orbit or even from the deck of a freighter and detonated a few hundred kilometers above the surface could neutralize just about every power grid in the nation and simultaneously kill communication, emergency and transportation systems.

By killing the power grid you leave the military and general public in a state of panic and completely scattered. The generals would have trouble communicating to the soldiers and any attack on the mainland could commence. Imagine if they decided to launch a strike on Washington DC in order to take out the leadership? Or if they decided to take out our satellites while we were wounded?

The public would be in shock, the military would be cut off, all emergency personnel would be overloaded and completely helpless. Cars, trains, planes, even boats would not work. The circuitry in their engines and guidance systems fried. If it was launched during the right seasons, the public would starve and begin to devolve into anarchy.

Trust me, Invasion would be the last thing on American's minds.

That kind of attack would result in China being nuked and the PRC has no defense against our SLBMs or ICBMS, while we do against theirs.

It would be suicide on their part and the Chinese don't play that game.

"... All the armies of Europe, Asia, and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth in their military chests; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in the trial of a thousand years. At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we ourselves must be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide." - A. Lincoln

I tend to agree. If we are to fear some treachery by which the American people will be subjugated and conquered, it won't be by a foreign "nation." The nature of our union and citizenry would not allow for military conquest to prevail (never mind that history teaches us occupations ALWAYS fail.)

Danger will come to us from our own inability to perceive the danger, or our own willingness to excuse what passes for governance in our midst.

Hey, do you guys trust anything from the Washington Times on China?

It is owned by the Moonies - an extreme right-wing neo-Christian group led by a self-appointed Korean saint.
Sounds like a conflict of interest to me.

BTW aren't all HAARP-type weapons capable of blasting out EMP?
I think so, and then not only China, but several other countries - including even Norway - have experimented with it.

Perhaps one should rather think about why this item has become "news" just now, when war is looming in the Middle East (think Iran selling oil NOT for dollars on its free burse, precisely what Hussein did before the Iraq War), and the revelations about the Fed bailing out private banks (some non-US) at the worth of 16 trillion USD? With China being its No. 1 creditor?

Perhaps the more the US owes China, the more its armed forces will wage war precisely where China wants it. (Mr. Netanyahu notwithstanding).

I have reason to doubt that China will become an offensive force. Reason being, off the top of my head they have been involved in two recent conflicts (1950's+), one being a major war and the other a minor- Korea and Taiwan(Taiwan wasn't all too serious). Both of these were regional and China themselves have a long history of non-intervention. Infact they flaunt this fact in the UN. America meanwhile has been involved in 5 recent major wars and around 70 minor wars and military interventions/regime overthrows. I'm just saying.
