Sock-Puppets manipulating threads is a T&C Violation and dealt with accordingly.

Except the ones I mentioned on the previous page here.

I don't think they could be any more obvious.

Be so kind to file official complaints/alerts for all of staff to see when you come across activity that appears to Violate the T&C.

Would it surprise you to learn that I'm an atheist?

Not really. While I feel that agnosticism is the most reasonable response to what's widely embraced as the theistic position, atheism checks in as a best 2nd choice. The certainty issue is still problematic, but given the ludicrous nature of traditional theistic narratives - as well as that of each widely available narrative that has emerged due to the crumbling credibility of more traditional narratives - a level of certainty regarding the plausibility of the central theism concept itself could be reasonably expected.

I've read through the mountainous replies on this topical thread by the owner of this website. I thought that I would reply with my two cents, (although I am more of the 'so-called lurker' group).

With regards to this silliness of the website being "a front" for some three letter alphabet agency, well that's just the paranoid mind of the conspiracy theorist hard at work. I've witnessed this topic come up from time to time before I signed up and eventually some administrator, Moderator or the owner themselves will step forward 'one more time' to try and quell down the few whose brains work overtime while fervently typing in their parents basement. "Mother, I'll be up for dinner in a minute, someone on the internet is wrong."

Before I joined this forum, I was one that was generally just an occasional reader. There were a number of topics that I found interesting and that I was curious about, and this venue offered a wide spectrum of viewpoints from all sides. From believers, debunkers and skeptics, to atheist, christians and "other". This has been the only website that in my view allowed each and every one of us to express their feelings, concerns and theories in a social and civil manner. And if one looked (using that search feature) through the tons of threads and post here, you'd see that pretty much every theory on just about every topic in the world is allowed, if it falls within the rules stated. I really doubt that some agency would be interested in this website, and if so, then it's solely for it's entertainment value as they read some of our theories.

The only minor 'hiccup' that Ive noticed at all during this period are from "those few" that believe that the rules for membership here, don't seem to apply to them. And so when they get their hand slapped by having a thread disappear or a post removed, they scream "bloody murder" and throw a temper tantrum, thus creating a lot of "look at me" drama. Now granted, not everyone has taken the time to read the terms and conditions, but whose fault is that when you get your hand slapped? And of course one's hidden internet ego jumps up to 200% as they throw digital bile at all that oppose them. I mean "how dare you sir say that I am wrong".

I'm sure the conversations that go on behind close doors by the staff and Moderators has to be not an easy one. I've moderated at a few forums, and it is a pain-staking process to do so neutrally and not let ones personal thoughts get involved. So I can only imagine the stress these staffers have to put up with to just keep this website civil. I'm sure in this case, the conversation was, well I guess it's that time again, lets try and sooth the savages one more time.

I liken this place as to a restaurant that has up in the window, " NO SHOES, NO SHIRT, NO SERVICE"! The owner of the restaurant has implicitly stated, that if I want to eat at his diner, I need to follow his rules. This website is no different, if you want to be a part of this website and post your thoughts and theories, you can do so if you follow the rules outlined (that your suppose to read) before you signed up. And if you can't abide by the rules, then go 'eat' somewhere else, there are plenty of restaurants that will "feed you" and don't care how your dressed.

Geez people, isn't it enough that we have this place at all to share and interact with one another? What other place on the internet can you direct me to that has a like-minded and civil website for a multitude of minds to get together?

Again I say, if you don't like the restaurant, go some where else, but don't ruin my dinner, I like the food and atmosphere here.

Look , lets just ignore the Prima Donna's and concentrate on the many good threads and post's.

As in any melting pot, the slag has to be removed so that what remains is pure gold.

Get over it, man-up, pucker-up or go away is my advice to those who constantly complain about ATS.

Control Freaks - Take a break, your tedious and boring.

Paranoids - You need to calm down and chill-out a bit.

I have yet to encounter any form of Gatekeeping from ATS, it doesn't happen, only the patently false/obnoxious or spamming posts get removed.

And as for ATS being a front for Intel Agencies, lol, that is just too funny, i got some news for you, we're not that important.

Viva ATS

Cosmic...

The truth is that the only interest in conspiracies the ownership of ATS has is making money off of people who like to talk about them.

Evidence?

In the small lower left hand corner of the home page you will in fact see that the ownership states clearly it takes an adversarial stance towards the user generated content posted on the site.

Are you talking about this? ---> "This content community relies on user-generated content from our member contributors. The opinions of our members are not those of site ownership who maintains strict editorial agnosticism and simply provides a collaborative venue for free expression."
How can anyone read that as adversarial?

Indeed they do, they do not and have not ever supported their conspiracy theorists, instead they simply rob them of their contributed content, claiming copy write to it, then when member/posters become too popular or stumble upon a real conspiracy they simply ban them and proceed to rob them of their reputation too with self serving slanders and lies.

That statement is not backed up by any facts or otherwise even close to being correct. On what do you base the false statement that we "rob" our members of their content?

The owners of this site might have been well served listening to my mother’s own advice, “Be nice to every one on the elevator ride up, you might need them on the way down”

Was she nice to people who came into her home and pissed on her carpet?

How can you be so certain?

It's seems that fear of multiple-personalities and/or sock puppets is beginning to surpass the fear of agents provocateur.

Do you (and others) really think "someone" is going through the effort of managing multiple accounts simply to influence content on ATS? Keep in mind that to be truly effect so as to influence flagging, one would need about 50 accounts.

Something that began as good intentioned, and even humorous has deteriorated into unsubstantiated allegations, yet again.

What bothers me most is that neer-do-wells, newcomers, and know-it-alls come on these pages, and Presume to advise and critique proven, successful, grown men about how to manage their business. YOU are going to PRESUME to tell someone with an extremely successful website what to do? It's laughable. You should be taking notes on how it's done.

If you're so freakin' smart, go start your own site.

Good luck, and buh-bye.

I come to ATS for knowledge, and I trust that those that own, opperate and moderate this site are honest and ethical.

However, this appears to be an open discussion and one thing that concerns me are the "prove it " gods !!

'Show me a picture...or its not real".

It really is a put off and is very irritating for one that wants to get to the nitty gritty of things and learn of others experience and life lessons.

I read this so much in here in all topics.
One can barley get past the opening post of a thread without a one liner post of "prove it or its false." or "show me a picture".

If I really was an insider of an organisation, media, science, and trying to get my word out.....it would be lost as I would have to prove my identity to the 'prove it gods" and my message and anonymity would be lost without being able to reach those that is needed with this site to get the truth out to the world.

This is what really puts me off ATS, before one has a chance to prove it or get feedback from interested active parties,or "lurkers" there are these rampant posters that dont give a person a chance to say what they want to say, or read feedback from others without a "prove it".

They just chase people away before something can be proved, or the moderators remove it or stop it before one gets a bloody answer to the started thread as the OP has been slammed by the prove it gods and don't want to participate or share anymore.

Why would anyone who has had a genuine experience want to post it here when all they are going to get is bad feedback for opening their mouth or sharing an experience ?

Ohh..I know...if its real prove it or don't post !

Sometimes this works...sometimes it doesn't..we all want proof every single one of us...sadly we rarely get it.
But if we don't give the benefit of the doubt, then we will never learn the truth, and a picture doesn't mean that the OP is a fraud, or troll or deserves the treatment that is handed out on this site by the " prove it gods"

I believe in ATS and its ethics....however measures need to be taken so the real truth is not lost with the "prove it " TROLLS.

Long Live ATS

Exactly. So why is it I can't create a thread pointing this out?

(as long as I don't mention members by name or link to the thread Im talking about)

I wouldn't ask if I didn't care about ATS

This whole experience has opened my eyes to what ATS is all about.

Very simply, SO, creates revenue through advertising dollars that come from user-generated content.

If that user-generated content doesn't fall in line with the ATS business model, then that content is 404'd.

An example: I tried to create a thread pointing out how speculative threads that promise something amazing and don't deliver, garner loads of attention from members via flags, replies, and front page status. Thus, putting nonsense on the front page of ATS, while interesting threads (not authored by me) with research and information don't get as much attention. It's a sign of the times on ATS.

I mentioned a specific thread by name, which is a violation, and I accept that.

I created a new thread, not mentioning any member by name or linking to any specific thread, and it was also deleted. It was in the rant forum, which states "get it off your chest, as long as it doesn't involve attacking another member."

I then asked for a detailed explanation. I didn't like what I was told by the mods, so I brought my problem to this thread, which I thought would be a good way of getting my voice heard.

I'm now made out to look like I'm unhappy with ATS, I'm being a drama queen, and I'm trying to start problems.

Maybe the mods and owners of ATS would rather I just shut up and do what I'm told.

For the record... the user, Dw2881, has been identified as a returning previously banned member, who also had several "sock puppet" accounts used to contribute on their own threads... one of the original reasons for the banning.

Obviously, this person cannot let go, and is exhibiting a high degree of intense sour grapes.

To what end?

What change would be proposed?

While not perfect, the flagging system is the only viable means whereby we can offer editorial control over the community's perceived importance of certain topics.

Why do you refuse to accept what we're saying in this thread? Your assumption is wrong.
