I'm going back to reading my "Compass Reading for Neophyte Dummies" now... maybe I should just ask the dog to point out where "north" is to me, since I'm an obvious incompetent...

I wonder if the engineers at Tampa airport misread their compasses when they closed the runways and changed them due to the shift in magnetic north....

Maybe North is shifting.

It's not so much whether or not it is happening as what we need to realistically be aware of in regards to its impact.

And in that case you'll probably assume people refusing to debate with you makes you somehow more intelligent than the your adversary.

Learn some manners. I've disagreed with hundreds of people on this forum, never once have I ever had the audacity to call them a simpleton.

One last thought - false bravado is one thing, but going around issuing challenges to folks you don't know is another thing altogether. It's not very bright. You just never know WHO you may be talking to.

It's possible you may have misjudged the assertion(s) and falsely limited it to only one.

Rather than anything necessarily being "wrong with the Magnetic Field of the Earth" (perse) one POSSSIBLE scenario for SOME compass readers may be that there are strong local our even regional man-made (or otherwise) magnetic fields of unknown strength acting in various places exerting differing degrees of influence on the compasses. I don't see how this can be ruled out (yet) at least at this time.

I was thinking about this, since we all be pulling our pedigree's out about hows smrt we's all are. I gots my Bosun's.
Does that make me seem like I might know what a compass is for? I so precise, I can piss on a plate and never splash. (that's a quote, since I'm adopting the patois here, it amused me to use it.)

I had to run some errands - groceries, picking up the oldest from guides - so I took my compass with me.

My community area, it's pointing easterly. In two other communities I was in, it's pretty darn close to what I would expect normally - maybe just a bit off. Not much. Not enough I'd have ever noticed it.

I got out of the car for all of them these measurements, because apparently my car's interior has some magnets in it.

I have a Garmin Nuvi. I can make it North Up.

If I were to get myself a way of videoing it, with my floating point there in the same shot, would that work for you?

(its been cloudy here, so unless that breaks there's going to be no shots of the Sun setting.

Nope no job at the moment. I'm afraid. I've been studying for five years Although you'll have to explain to me why a tax payer is wasteful, I was always under the notion that tax contributed to a decent society.

You are right, but saying I've killed better than the person who was goofing on me believe it or not, is accurate. I know first generation people in the military think there is some sort of unspoken word about pulling a trigger, but being 5th generation here, I can tell you, I'm not sitting on my Grandpas knee asking Old Tymee about what he did in the war, some people (and this may baffle your house wife mind) actually are not only proud in this generation but sorry they didn't whack more Haj's,, but I see what your saying, just not relevant, go back to your house chores.

And I still have yet to see ONE piece of evidence that the freaking Earths magnetic field is off.

Why do you keep bringing killing up? Do you think ATS is suddenly going to believe you, when you belittle members and then start bragging or lying about people you have allegedly killed. Do you think insulting members and threatening people is going to make you look any less of a jerk?

Thank God now everyone is noticing this? I have put my comments on various threads about my 3 month observations on my compass, which has the guidelines for orienteering etc....
In January it was pointing north but on February 21st it started to move overnight pointing 40 degrees north east. Over a few days it stayed on this reading but overnight on 1st March, it went back to its original setting of pointing north again.
On Thursday 10th March it was still pointing north but on the day of the earthquake I only recorded it that night and not in the morning and it had started to point north east again.
So I am not sure when it changed from 10th to the 11th of March to point north east?
Today it is moving back to becoming 10 degrees north east. So it is moving back to normal.
I notice a vibration going through the needle pointer as if there is a minute shake in the earth where I live in Scotland.
Incidentally my house is built on one of the 4 fault line that runs through Scotland

Here's a link for those who came here that want to learn and contribute (vs bicker or already know it all) that I found interesting regarding some testing of manmade magnetic fields from Los Alamos Labs. While these tests seem designed for short duration at the intensity cited this might open doors for possiblities for what is already currently behind closed doors in the mil/ind section that might make use of such techniques. By the way one of these labs is in Florida. Possibly others remain undisclosed.

Liberterius: Sorry to disappoint you, but nothing that came out of your mouth "baffled" me, not as a human being or "housewife" This is not a first generation military family on either side which is why we know to keep our mouth shut when it comes to such things. It brings dishonor to not only ourselves, but to the military and humankind. And it's not a Ranger "badge" it's a Ranger "tab". Also it's not "haj" it's "haji" which is just about as despicable as using a racial slur. Do I need to educate you on anything else friend? I don't know what Army you were in, but you certainly didn't learn much. The Army teaches among other things, honor, integrity, respect, none of which you seem to possess the last few days. The Army does not teach men and women to go out and just kill people for sport (which is basically the way you sound) and to come back and brag and laugh about it to others.

Seattle Wa here, my compass is reading 359 degrees off of north. Wow, I've used an iPhone, digital compass, my old lensatic compass from the Army and all are off 359 degrees. Please help and explain why this is happening ATS, I'm all freaked out! So glad others are seeing similar results, thought I was going crazy!
