Cool thread, I follow it once in a while. Since I read that most of us are FAR too stupid to read a compass I determined to make a VERY scientific
study. I am currently on the North Island of New Zealand, Southern Hemisphere. I used my HIGHLY scientific compass (two dollar store keychain, neon
green and wayyy cool looking) and cross-referenced it with another compass (cheap old one from a science class). These two high tech gadgets do point
in the exact same direction. I have no idea where the magnetic north should be, so I put them both on the garage floor and made a line pointing north
with a magic marker (also HIGHLY scientific I'm sure!) I CAREFULLY monitered them (i.e., randomly checked once in a while) and they always pointed
in the same direction. This morning the magnetic north was approximately 23 degrees to the east of where it usually reads. Cheers!
